From Amazon MGM Studios and IMAX, The Blue Angels is a new documentary that chronicles a year with the Navy’s elite Flight Demonstration Squadron.
The Blue Angels have been enthralling people around the globe for more than 75 years-and now everyone can soar along. Filmed for IMAX, the immersive footage puts the audience in the cockpit for a firsthand view of the Blue Angels’ precision flying, while the aerial shots deliver a spectacular showcase of the breathtaking maneuvers that have made them the world’s premier jet team.
The Blue Angels also takes audiences behind the scenes for a revealing, in-depth look at what it takes to become a Blue Angel-from the careful selection process to the challenging training regimen, and on through the demanding eight-month show season.
The film pays tribute to the extraordinary teamwork, passion, and pride of the hundreds of men and women of the Navy and Marine Corps who have had the honor to serve in the Blue Angels squadron-past, present, and future.
From director Paul Crowder and producers J.J. Abrams, Hannah Minghella, Sean Stuart, Glen Zipper, Mark Monroe, and Glen Powell, _The Blue Angels_will be in IMAX for one week only, from May 17 to May 23-and then available to stream globally on Prime Video beginning May 23.

@robstone2253 i saw the new IMax documentary and it was fantastic!! But Around the World at the Speed of Sound will always be my #1 as my dad is Irish , #4 .

Busy traveling for work.
I told him I would call and demand a private showing for an ex Blue Angel pilot himself and see if I can pull that card. Hahaha I would love to be able to watch with him!
I went by myself in TX and had goosebumps from the first scene and maybe got a little teared up when they showed having to leave their toddlers !!
I loved every minute of it so kudos to you for round two.
Good news is looking back I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I have watched the Blues starting with my first job in Pensacola in 1978.
I loved the scenes shot at NAS Pensacola and especially the beach show - which I think is one of their favorites. It is incredible to see the people there wave and cheer as if the pilots can hear. A few years ago, we were back for that show and Whiskers (#6 in the movie) was the narrator and walking the beach while narrating ! He stopped and visited with us while pauses in the show. We heard a voice over the PA system and realized he was standing right behind us.
The movie to me is like a giant music video celebrating the team and all it stands for.
Go see it if you can on the big screen !
It will make you a proud supporter of Naval Aviation and our country.
One of the best aviation cinematic documentary's on earth. Stunning and really powerful. Featuring never-before-seen footage.
So, I just got home from watching it at my local IMAX. The camera shots were amazing… I particularly liked the bird’s eye view looking down and the helicopter views inside the box. The movie did a good job of showing the inner workings of preparation, teamwork, and camaraderie. But to be honest, I felt like the film just didn’t include enough of the actual demo. Perhaps they could release some clips down the road… a “director’s cut” for plane nerds. 😉

Was an amazing film! IMAX made it even better!
We saw it yesterday at the P’cola IMAX…as BA-aholics, we loved it…. The Fat Albert takeoff was so cool…if only they still had JATO. We loved the El Centro portion, as we watch daily practice on RUclips on MKBLUES channel. We go to practice at home every couple of weeks and love watching the progression of the team dynamics. One thing we did learn regarding Amanda and why it took so long to get a female pilot…they had been unable to find a female pilot from the fleet who could take the g forces without a suit. Now this was in answer to a question from the crowd to one of the longtime volunteers on the practice flight line. Don’t know how true it is, but food for thought. Thanks for your review.
The Blue Angels had a TV show back in the 1950’s. I watched it when I was a kid.
I gotta track this down and finally watch it!
I saw it twice and can't wait until it comes to streaming. Been a fan of the Blue Angels since the 80's when I fell in love with flying. Chills throughout the movie. Seeing them pass out due to G-Forces was eye opening.

I watched the camera plane last year at Seafair. Thought it was a recruiting for perspective team members. Definitely did things I hadn’t seen before.
Evan - I also believe that Bert and its Marine crew could have received a bit more focus within the documentary but I understand there is only so much time to cover an immense amount of material. Thank you for your honest review. Boss Wooldridge's interview was also amazing!

Any idea how long this will be running in imax theatres? I’m pretty limited when I can go and there’s only one theatre kinda near me I can go see this
I believe the last day in IMAX is this Thursday 5/22. It comes on Prime Video on the 23rd. Go see it!

So agree with your opinion in regards to the cutting of the airal footage. Most of the time they cut the action too quickly. But the action shots were amazing! Your entire review was spot on - felt the same about all the points you mentioned.

On the first flight the new team members have to fly naked.
Yeah that’s b.s. it only coming out on prime video not everybody has prime video or can afford it who’s bright idea was it to only put it out on prime video video after it’s in IMAX for a week not a great way to promote the Blue Angels by just putting it on only one streaming service especially when there are people who don’t know who the Blue Angels Angels are
The film is not a production of the Navy. It is made by a for profit production company. They have paid for the crew and equipment that filmed it for a whole year with the team and are now needing to recoup their investment. An exclusive deal with a streamer like Amazon is the only way to realistically do that in today’s film production economy.
It looks like Amazon Prime is $15 a month in the US which is less than the cost of an IMAX ticket if you unsubscribe once you’ve watched the documentary. The documentary is worth the price!

Well... it's no Blue Angels Around the World at the Speed of Sound from 1993. I watched this last night on Amazon and doubt I'll sit through it again.
Regarding how long it took to get a female pilot into the jets, I'm wondering if the Navy may have been a touch gunshy because of the loss of Kara Hultgren in a Tomcat. I've had the impression that she may have been moved along quickly without being completely ready, in other words, maybe standards were relaxed somewhat. I'm sure Amanda Lee is happy she was selected on merit rather than gender.
That's a very real possibility! The obvious (and probably too easy) assumption would be to jump to sexism as the root cause and it may very well have been a part of it... but I'm sure there's all sorts of fascinating behind the scenes nuance (like the Kara Hultgren thing you mentioned) that we'll never get to hear about.
That's what I was getting at with being frustrated by films like this needing to get Navy approval to even exist. In an ideal world, a documentary prominently featuring the first female Blue Angel jet pilot would be the perfect platform to delve into the real reasons why it took so long. Alas.

Hey fool! I see that all your shots are with officers of the squadron. How about including the maintenance chief and some of the other enlisted guys. They make stars of the "officers" but get so little of the credit.
