Similar thing here, I was 14 when it came out and I remember listening to it for like 2 years straight. I cut it down to some larger intervals with time but never really stopped. Great song and the vocals are a masterpiece.

is it just me or is it the new trend to drop the volume whenever a bass tone is played??? Because I hate that...Dubstep is for bass, not silence

I think that might be what gives the bass it's 'heaviness'.
You mean the frequency drops so drastically that every other sound is reduced? Well then, TOO MUCH bass is the simple answer. Quite common, this phenomenon.
