    1. As someone who has a 27 QHD -- get the touch, so many apps are taking their queues from mobile and doing touch gestures (two finger undo for example).
    2. Get an ergotron arm or amazon basics equivalent. Makes it super flexible, you can rotate the monitor, move it back and forth, up and down (sit stand is doable), and it's much cheaper than the wacom ergostand. They stopped including it because people were annoyed at having to pay the included price when may prefer the arms.

      Same here, but I'm not sure if it was a good decision anymore. Palm rejection on the iPad Pro is not very good, and the pen is not as good either. So if you're taking notes or drawing cartoons, it's okay. But if you want better pressure control without having to switch colors all the time, then it's probably not good enough. The biggest upside is how portable it is. I'm now wondering if I should get a cintiq pro 16.

    Sure you want the best you have to pay for it, but is it really value for money? This is just a drawing monitor, you would also need a really good computer or laptop to run the resolution. This is definitely a device catered towards high end professionals and studios. A bit of a pity as most of the market consists of artists in between who would rather see that money go towards their tuition or more reasonably priced art tools.

    the great thing about 4k is you can see line work, for say a comic page, at close to print resolution right there in front of you. all the detail and line weight right there on the screen as it'll look on paper. if you mainly do full colour/painty stuff then the cheaper HD tablet screens are still a solid choice.

    Great review for something I'll never buy. I still don't think that the higher build quality and higher resolution are worth 3-4 times more money. The added bulk on the back for something most people never use looks annoying and for this kind of money you'd expect some kind of a stand. Still watching your videos is fun, even if you know beforehand you're never going to buy the reviewed item. I think Wacom suffers from the same disease that Apple and Microsoft are having .... offering interesting products that suffer from overpricing. I'll go back to my inferior Huion now that seems to work just fine and thankfully isn't build like rubbish.

      If you won't do much about drawing, I think intuos is enough for a graphic designer.
      But if you really need a drawing display tablet, Wacom is the best (for now).

    • @benjamina6915
      @benjamina6915 6 лет назад +4

      Yes a XP-Pen 22 or Huion 22 is fine to start out with and even to stay with. For me 4k isn't a priority and I don't need touch, so my Huion is sufficient for me as an artist and illustrator. I love drawing on a screen and Wacom's are great, but the newer Huion's and XP-Pen are so surprisingly good that it cured me from needing to have a Wacom. For me, down the road there's no need for a Wacom anymore, it will only be replaced by a new alternative one, once those companies offer newer features. XP-Pen even offers an alternative for the Wacom Remote Control at one third of the price, the AC19. Mine is due to arrive later this week, I'm sure it will be a great addition to my Huion that doesn't have express keys.

    This video reminded me of the time I had wasted additional 50$ for nothing - and that is buying Intuos 5 TOUCH, that feature, at that time (2012), was a gimmick and more of an annoyance. It's the first thing I turn off after installing drivers on a new device.
    And just adding to the "is WACOM worth the price" discussion - well, it's 6 years and the tablet is running like a tank, except for the usb port, that has become loose after the years of plugging in/out, as I used to carry it around a lot, but now less so. And the thing is - I don't feel that I would need another drawing tablet, maybe pen display, but not a tablet (well,as long as it is alive, that is :D ).
    PS. About this CIntiq, or not about the display itself, but that remote...first time I saw it I thought it was UGLY. And each time I see it again - I still think it is ugly. I mean - don't other people find that it has a design does not blend well with the device it is being used with? I'm not talking about functionality, which obviously is great, but just the visual aesthetics of it?

    I do in fact draw all day, but can’t in fact afford anything like this. I also can’t work at home. Be interested to know if there are any reliable screen protectors out there that change the texture of iPad glass.

  • @ckenisell

    @Brad Colbow, what's the multiple-monitor workflow on this? When using Photoshop, I like to keep my pallets on another monitor, leaving the main monitor for just the artwork. If my pallets are on another monitor, I would have to set the pen down and use my mouse to select a layer or pick a color or whatever, and then grab my pen again to draw on the screen. I currently use an Intuos Pro Medium and have it set to span across all three monitors. So, I never really have to put the pen down. Now, I'm wondering if I should leave the Intuos Pro plugged in AND the Cintiq Pro (which arrives tomorrow). This way, I could draw on the Cintig and if I need to move the cursor to the monitor on the left or right, I could simply move the pen from the Cintiq down to the Intuos and never have to touch a mouse. Better yet, maybe I should have just bought 3 Cintiqs. LOL Would that even work?

    Great review! I just got mine, touch version after 5 years on a tablet. It’s a dream to draw on but a few issues. The fans turn on a lot more than this review says. It sounds like a laptop fan when you’re working it hard. It’s not bad, especially when you have music going, but it’s there. Also the touch feature as you say feels like a bit of a loss. I could’ve done without it, for the same reasons as this review. Lastly, it REALLY does need a stand. I have the Wacom Vesa and Ergo arm coming but it’ll still be a few weeks. If you do long hours of art, hunching over on this will kill your back and neck. Otherwise, amazing product!

      I don't know why wacom keeps insisting on touch screens/tablets, it has allways been garbage on their tablets, I've had a bamboo fun and since 2014 an intuos pro and I've never ever used or needed the touch feature on them, expresskeys are all that you need. At this point I think they add touch just to justify higher prices, I mean I recall there was a time where both their touch and non touch tablets were roughly the same price not $500 appart.

    • @tested211
      @tested211 4 года назад

      @@BombaJeadI think that's a good point. If touch doesn't work perfectly every time it just becomes an annoyance and is not worth having. It really has to be implemented as well as the ipad pro / phones or don't bother (especially for the extra cost) but then I have to say good on Wacom for offering most models without touch..... I also think many cintiq users would really benefit from a gamepad (Razer orbweaver etc.) over the express key remote as it's much smaller than a keyboard but allows a lot more keyboard shortcuts without having to remove your gaze from the work or look where your hand is going.

    You said that there are a few Wacom alternative that give you that "good" feeling, can you name drop them? And previously you said that the only cintiq that you've used were the old ones and then you started using SP3 and Wacom alternatives, now that you had proper time with Wacom's latest, have your opinions on Wacom alternatives change?

    Can I have a question? As a reviewer who "buys" (not sure if you actually buy all those things or just borrow them for the review and then return) all these things, what do you do with them when the new version comes out? For example the iPad. When you have the 2017 version and you buy the 2018 I can't imagine you would keep using the old one anymore. What do you do with those old gadgets? .. because I love to draw and I'd love to own an iPad but from my salary I just can't afford the 1500 $ price tag. So I was wondering if there was a way to get a used one when people get rid of them after reviews for example..

    8,000 levels of pressure sounds impressive, but if you think about it, if you're working in 8-bit RBG, each color channel only has 256 possible values. 10-bit color gets you up to 1,024 values, so it seems to me that anything over that is probably unnecessary.

    ARGHH!! THE TOUCH!! Why can't Wacom get the touch situation figured out? This has plagued their devices from the beginning. The false touches and mysterious palm lines on my 27qhd are frustrating because I want to use the touch features in my workflow, but can't. I bought one of these before I saw this review. Can attest to it's awesomeness if you're able to invest in it. I spent all my holiday savings on it when my 11-year old cintiq 21UX died. It was worth every penny. The ergo arm is worth it too. When I'm not using it to draw on, it's a second monitor display and I can actually fit it on my already cluttered desk! The touch sensitivities have issues at times. I don't use that feature in anything but Photoshop as it seems to be way too sensitive and adds marks or elements in places I don't want (like a new bezier point in Illustrator or something). It's also frustrating that the pinch and zoom feature is not cross-program, as I would love to be able to set it up in Adobe Animate and TVPaint!

    Thank you for the review! I will be trading my Cintiq Pro 16 with a non-touch version of Pro 24 this Wednesday. I was using Cintiq 21UX DTK-2100 but I noticed some serious lag. And I want to upload my process on RUclips someday so I need something with 16:9 ratio.

    Touch used to work great, the palm rejection was perfect. All the driver problems started with that Windows ink update a while back and touch has never been the same since. They've fixed the major problems but I still get glitchy appearances of the popup keyboard on my cintiq companion. I think it misreads palm touches as gestures. It's really annoying they got rid of the vesa mounts as I have an ergotron for my old 21 ux that still works perfectly! I saw that they're partnering with ergotron to bring out a new arm to fit these screens, I bet they'll be wacom priced though!

    I have the Wacom 13HD and mostly love it. The screen responsiveness and drawing feel are fantastic and the pen is great. I do want a larger drawing space though so I'm interested in upgrading. My main issue with the 13HD is it's not a very accurate screen. First off, the image looks grainy so it doesn't look clean compared to when I'm drawing on an iPad or Samsung Note 9. Second, the color reproduction sucks. I can be erasing areas and everything looks like it is gone, but when I look at the second larger monitor that I have duplicated, I can see light grey areas that don't show on the Wacom unit at all that I have to go back and finish erasing. I would assume the Cintiq Pro 24 would fix that issue since the color is very accurate. I also feel like the 13HD isn't very bright and that also makes it harder to work on.
    I do question the graininess though and whether it's on this improved product. Brad, have you noticed a grainy look on the screen in comparison to tablets and phones which don't have that at all?

    Great review. I agree with almost everything you’ve said. There’s nothing better to draw on digitally. I’ve got the ergo stand too which is also great. However I’ve had a nightmare with Wacom and their after care service. My first device had a dead pixel. They eventually agreed to swap it for another model but that turned out to be a refurb and that had an even bigger cluster of dead pixels. I got my second replacement today which they said would be brand new but that had two dead pixels and a scratch on the screen so I reckon that’s a refurb too. So that’s 3 Cintiq Pro 24 models now that all have dead pixels. Any issues with your review model?

  • @johnkon2810

    Good review Brad. I had already planned to upgrade my current Cintiq to the new 24 touch version. I'm still deciding on whether to use my egrotron or invest in the new stands for these. Btw... when using a Cintiq like this, most people use a workstation or a laptop workstation (something that is powerful) as it's used on a desk environment. I point this out because, another thing commonly used is a 2nd Monitor, (or rather the Cintiq is used as the 2nd monitor). If you are investing in a Cintiq, you currently are or plan to do some professional work on it. Having another monitor is extremely helpful for a number of reasons but, a primary function is for color profiles (both print & web). You instantly have "free eyes" to view your colors.
    ...
    Slight;y off-topic: I'll be honest Brad, I'm surprised you don't invest in knowing and understanding color profiles, as it can only help you (including your web only artwork). For example: If you ever spent 5 seconds deciding on what color shade fits best in your artwork, then you should know that someone else's device could alter the look of your artwork's color. Understanding this, allows you to anticipate that a color you might like in front of "you," may not transition well to everyone else. Food for thought!

    You should really try the touch features attaching it on a windows machine. On Mac touch is only a sort of emulation of keyboard strokes in Photoshop. (unless Adobe has finally decided to implemented the same touch gestures the Windows version has since CC2014)

Do you confirm that?

    This looks awesome. Ive been looking at something to get my 11 year old daughter for christmas. She loves drawing, and I really encourage it. But I think I will start her with a surfave pro 6 for her first computer. As time goes on, and she gets better, and shows that she has more interest, I would get her something more expensive and better. The pen sensitivity turns me off on the surface pro, but her being 11 and a beginner. I feel that may be a good start. Plus she was only asking for a laptop so she can watch videos and go on the internet. I figured I'd find something that she was able to draw with since she loves drawing at home on paper all the time. I want to see what she could do on the computer and encourage her to get into graphic arts. She has been working on drawing an eye as realistic as she can, and drawing anime.
