There's enough awareness already. Everybody needs to stop buying water bottles and other single use plastics. We need to stop this habit and make sacrifices that we don't want. It's a tough challenge but it's 100% worth it.
These are a clever re-use of the waste plastic, but my concern is that you would see microplastics being spread in the wear and tear of any grinding of the boards.
Yeah unfortunately this problem is the same with most other things in the world, and I'm sure microplastics will be a problem for at least the next couple hundred years
@@VaporSpaceNumber101 I was about to say yes its concerning but other things do that such as tires which get used a lot and washing clothes that are made of plastic plus studies have shown that microplastics are already basically everywhere
The demand for plastic skateboards already exists. Are they going to be made out of Virgin plastics or post-consumer recycled plastics? At least someone in the market for this product has a more eco-friendly option, if imperfect
@@supernova622 THIS, is definitely a point I think I missed. I won't argue against it being a great step towards reducing the creation of virgin plastics, and for preventing much waste from entering landfills and elsewhere. I'm just saying that microplastics are THE ONLY concern I have after implementing this kind of process, in the grand scheme of it all. I'm trying to think cradle-to-cradle. Trying to take into account EVERY little speck that comes and goes.
This is “radical”, but we need to reduce plastic bottle usage at the same time in order to get long term results. If we can cut off the bottle caps being lost in nature and use this to clean up the ones that we find then we would have some really great progress!
Would be cheaper to upcycle them and make them in Australia. There’s more than enough raw material in Australia for it. Rather than use energy transporting them from USA. Bottle caps are made of HDPE & LDPE. Polyethylenes are relatively easy to upcycle. It is possible to do so without extrusion machines and use home appliances instead so it’s methods are accessible to a hobbyist.
im one of the owners! if you have any connections it would be awesome to do a cleanup in Australia and make some boards with plastic from those beaches. we do a similar thing in hawaii! would also be cool to get our boards into a shop out there!
I love these stories. Why do some bottles say to leave the lid on. I always take them off to rinse the bottle. It makes me wonder if the plastic is really being recycled.
Thank you for helping out the earth. I would love to get my hands on recycled tips to grow veggies in. But not so deep it takes a mountain to fill them , like 3feet by 5 ft by 8 inches tall. Perfect for a bed of beets.... so cool.
It's great but 1tonne is literally a drop in the ocean. I hope they have a program to take back the boards at the end of their life. Also you wouldn't it be amazing to offer a discount to anyone who gathers enough bottle tops from their local communities to make the board, given skaters usually go out on the streets looking for good places to ride and perform tricks I don't think it would be difficult to find the 1kg max in each board and what an amazing marketing idea. Football helmets, hockey sticks ect there's plenty of products that could be made from this stuff but more importantly it's an opportunity to leverage those communities to get out there and take personal responsibility. Good way to get people to put the caps aside instead of adding them to normal recycling. Things like this are good but it's gonna take a lot more for them to have any real impact. Anyway Kudos but please don't overhype things nothing more annoying than when overblown praise is given to people for what should be automatic. I would argue this is more about marketing than the actual environment but also that is a good thing. It needs to be economically advantageous to do things in a less environmentally damaging way.
I'm gonna look into doing this! It seems like a fun hobby while also just slightly helping the earth and best part is I already have plenty of bottle caps.
I used to go to the shore of L. Ontario whenever the wind was right, and ride kite buggy up and down the beach. I would carry a 30 gallon garbage bag with me, and take an hour (or less) to fill it with plastic trash that washes up. Bottle caps, cigar tips, and plastic tampon inserters(?) were the most often encountered junk🙄 Then single use plastic bags, usually full of sand, and plastic bottles from drink bottles to the large laundry soap bottles.
There is not enough machinery in the US to make the process cheap. We ship recycled plastic to China because THEY produce EVERYTHING. Their website claims to use 1325 lbs of plastic (equals to annual usage of 6 average Americans), sadly this is a joke.
Can't these plastics bottle caps be turned into paper caps just like paper straw however placing an instact seal under cap that would prevent Paper Cap from getting wet. It's just the to thought, What are your views about it or better than this?
In India , our forefathers hated water Business, And believed in distribution for free, It believed that it's given (Rain) by God and must not charge for the same (water), One can see in India beautiful step water Wells constructed by Kings and wealthy people, but due to lacking of care being taken to maintain in usable conditions and ruled by British all waterwell turned in to monuments today. And to earn more revenue Government allowed Foreign companies such as Cocacola, Pepsi and then water Business (Bisleri). People started facing problem of water shortage, These plastics and Plastic Bottles problems can be easily solved if All countries come together and stop charging for water (Water is very costly in Arebian countries) Plastics are one of the reason for cancer, dengerous for fish, animals and for our dear planet Earth. And atmosphere and global warming too.
The idea is noble, but...not going to work in the US. Here is why: there are not many companies that manufacture using plastic in the US, they are all in China. All that is left in the US is small businesses like this one which will be possibly bought by big corporations that can use their names to pretend to recycle. Recycled products that are MADE IN the US will stand a chance ONLY if small businesses were the powerhouses of the US economy, but that's not true as the US economy is driven by CORPORATIONS. How can small mom and pops manufacturers compete with big skate board corps who produce their skates in China using the same plastic pellets?
The fact that they'll re-recycle your broken board and send you a new one is AMAZING.
As an RA, i was actually planning a cleanup in our community and I'm glad I got this video in my recommended!

Definitely there is better cleaner materials that can be used.

Hopefully they make snowboards, skis, and surfboards.
They already make skis. 👀

This inspired to reuse my bottle caps, idk for what but I’ll find a way.
The only thing I hate about this channel is they never provide links to the great organizations they make videos on
Starting in the year 2077, bottlecaps will become *very* valuable, trust me
Build mass with sass!
Bottle caps are made of HDPE and LDPE. Polyethylenes are one of the easier plastics to upcycle
Yes, but in the video they explained it's hard to separate them from the rest.
@@Nebeorx they could incentivise people to collect hdpe and LDPE by offering a reward for it the same way scrap metal and drink containers do
Have you started an export side to your market?
Would make an absolute killing here in Australia

Me too. For the longest time, I took the tops off. Then I heard "leave them on". So confusing!
Don't rinse bottles out. Just trash them man. Wasting water and time.

The soda doesn't pollute the plastic?
I collect bottle caps

Does anyone know why bottles use different types of plastic for the cap? Can they not be swapped for a easier recyled version?

From what I understand, they can't be recycled economically because we don't sort home recycling.

I have few questions on their model of business. So whom should I reach?
How do wooden boards pollute plastic?
they dont, this is a cool way to recycle plastic. as a skater myself i would never want to replace the wooden board
Thanks!
The toilets seat cover has to be it that will put up much of a pound with plastic reclaim. However,
👏 awesome!

Amazing
It's called plant plastics
I am from india i am interested to buy this scate board how can i buy
Not consumers fault about waste it's soley on the companies. Recycling is a tax on people's wallet and time.
Why no one make profits from them? Its freakin open source!
If we could have refillable stations for all the liquids sold in bottles. C’mon generation X Y and Z!

Skateboard should be made of wood. That's it
What's shown in this video is not even skateboard
Ideally, I agree. But since these are made from recycled plastic, they're arguably just as sustainable as wooden boards.
Not sure who made that rule. I remember my sister having a plastic board in the 70s.
