TORNADO STORY: I was having a birthday party two years ago during a storm when an EAS Tornado Warning came over the TV. "Oh look! A Tornado Warning everybody get downstairs!!!" I said, over reacting. "Ignore it!!" My mom said. A minute later, the power went out. I will never forget that day.
Ahh... thank god you're safe. Damage to homes give you pain. I feel your scare... I live in Tallahassee, FL and have had plenty of tornado warnings this year.
I remember this. This was a bow echo when it hit my area which is south bend, IN. I forgot my camera at home and these storms hit my uncle's house where I was. It sucked! I actually saw a funnel cloud with this storm
Great video. Kind of a personal side note, but 18 years ago today I was in my first, and to date last, tornado. Our house wasn't damaged, but all the other damage that was done was incredible. It must have jumped over the house, because the arms on our TV antenna were broke off and wrapped around the mast, some big branches on a walnut tree were broke and twisted off, and an apple tree with a trunk of at least a foot and a half in diameter was snapped in half.
Some people are actually surprised that the EAS interrupt affects the Weather Channel - maybe because they assume that it isn't necessary since TWC is pretty much constantly updating people about what is going on in your area in some way.
I have a video of the EAS for this same storm. It was about an hour after this one, but in mine, (I have the same cable headend as you) it had a different voice. Any idea why this happened?
I Also Remember This Storm i was in a bed with somebody until the EAS came then i was freaking out and shaking i thought our house was gonna be destroyed when i got in the basement the basement started flooding :O and it got up to 2 stairs then tree branches were down and then everything was fine scary..
Nasty ,wicked storm. It hit us hard in Crest Hill. 80 mph winds, trees down all over the place. Had to run out in it to buy a generator ( I have a basement), but managed to get it all setup with minimal backup.
A watch and warning has nothing to do with where you go. A watch means conditions are favourable for the development of severe weather, including tornadoes. A warning means a tornado has been sighted or detected by radar and you need to take cover, in a basement or the lowest level interior room in your home.
this was a microburst, i saw the storm because i live in chicago but they had to alert us because it is close to a tornado...or possibly could've been.
good stuff, didnt really get to watch the warnings on tv, just kinda blasted the tv as i chased my dog around the house tryin to put him downstairs haha
@tornadofreak1994 I have CableOne, so whatever channel I'm on, the DVR receiver LED screen will flash "EAS" and will head straight to channel 41, (this channel) and instead of having it black out the screen, it just crawls across the top part of the screen while the weather channel is still airing WITH sound. good vid anyway.
My dad was driving me home from Elmhurst to Westchester and the transformers were exploding all over us sparks were flying in hillside every power line was exploding trees were falling we got back home Westchester just was getting hit sounded like fraight train coming over the house creek by my house overflowed and then our basement filled with water mind the fact this was all under a tornado warning and winds that were snapping trees and power lines left to right this storm was the most scariest storm I been through other then the 2020 August deacho
Man I waited all day for this storm, only got hit by the northernmost part. videotaped some weak rotating clouds but nothing too exciting, still waiting to see my first tornado despite going to college in Kansas for the last 5 years lol oh well maybe saturday we will get another chance
If you live in southwestern cook county, you had a tornado warning on june 30 2014, since it was for southwestern cook county and northwestern will county.

@tornadofreak1994 that's how my day started. i live in park forest IL in the chicago metro area. it was really cloudy but what i didn't know was that there was a tornado watch until 12:00pm. and so my pets started barking and hissing (the cat) and so i knew something was wrong. at about 5:00, i got the same warnings that you got and the tornado hit around 6:30. the funny thing about it was my friend's garage got smashed lol. overall it was a preety wild day.
im gonna tell my tornado story i was on my computer playing toontown i wondering whats that lighting then i exit toontown i went on weather.com then it was a tornado warning i shut down the computer and tired to warn my sisters i was telling them there was tornado warning i tried to change the channel but there i was two fucking recording then i hade watch in my grandmothers house then my mom and sisters came to watch wit me
Dani Sandborg they don't come on computers because of the way the system works. It would be way to unreliable for alerts over computers as internet connections regularly go out and it would be very difficult to broadcast alerts into computers. There is now technology that allows alerts to be broadcast onto phones but that fails regularly. Radio and TV is much simpler and much more reliable as if a cell tower goes out, your done but if a Radio/tv station goes out, you can always tune to another station
@tornadofreak1994 I got 3 EAS Tornado Warnings on tape the other day and they always happened as soon as the weather radio alert ended. I can see the same thing happening here.
I hate these things. I see the necessity, but even on a test at my house, it says tornado warning, like one time, at 3:47 in the morning, when there wasn't any rain around for miles. It's only funny because later that day, we were put under a tornado warning, and wouldn't you know it never played. I sat there like, WTF!!??!

99.9% of the time the tornado doesn’t happen
TCB Gaming I've only had a few TOR's that didn't produce tornadoes. In fact, there are a lot of times where a tornado happens without a warning

I have Comcast Digital Cable and when there is a Tornado Warning the cable box just shows EAS and changes to a random channel. Nothing like that.
WOW! The only warning we get when there's a Tornado Warning in my city is on Weather Channel, or Text message. No Emergency broadcast system.

i think it was this day i hit my knee into a metal pole and after me my sister and my dad left the eas went on about 20-25 minuites later
