- We're taking on classic Cities Skylines (City Skyline) challenges whilst we wait for Cities Skylines 2 (CS2). This time we're engineering a city where a tsunami of random intensity hits every 10 minutes. Can I use THE POWER OF ENGINEERING to stay ahead of the destructive waves in Cities Skylines?

Matt: I learned a lot from our previous experiences with Tsunamis
Also Matt: didn't build a single wall or contraption to stop the Tsunamis
when he makes those, he has mods turned on. with no mods it would take him hours to get enough money to even stop a tiny bit of the wave
RCE managed to create a city that alternates between being on fire and being flooded
That's called Australia.
Are we sure RCE isn't secretly a pharaoh?
@brendotheoffendo yeah it is to be honest
Australia released the new Coastal Japan DLC
The issue with the garbage was it couldn't find paths to where it needed to go. Since all the roads were built with Anarchy on, many of them didn't actually intersect, they just crossed each other, so vehicles couldn't go from one road to a different one.
we even saw once where a road went over a different road
there were garbage trucks leaving the dump, but as soon as they turned they just poofed out of existence,
@@theLOSTranger234 yeah, that's how the game works. A building puts out a call for a service, and a service building answers by generating a vehicle. The vehicle then tries to find a path to the call. If there is no path, it disappears. When a bunch of unreachable buildings are all putting out calls, it can jam up your services forever.
Yea I saw that as soon as he placed the roads, it was so annoying to look at
Maybe he shouldn't play with the anarchy mod
Perhaps they got washed away and that had glitched it
You know it's a good day when rce publishes a Cities Skylines video
It always is
Jip
yep!
yep, and timberborners and ploy bridge2/3 too
A
Funny how a city that's constantly underwater is always burning with fires.
Can we get a mod maker to whip up a disaster mod where you can set the parameters and whatever you picked will randomly span every set time with absolutely no warning whatsoever? Matt will just be building and then boom, tsunami wipes out the buildings he just plopped down without him even knowing it’s happening. Chaos will reign.
Even better if it was in-game periods and not real ones. Matt could have at least relaxed a bit...
I mentioned this last video. Just ask DougDoug to write him a script for the tsunamis.
The seweroutlet being the spot where the tsunamis gonna hit is pure comedy, the town angered the sea with the brown water and got it returned with extras
This is the most overengineered fire suppression mechanism I've ever seen. Kudos!
Forget being an engineer, you could be a politician. "Dont worry about the sunami, its just a watering of the plants!"
the auto demolish mod is the one thing that makes this game playable in my opinion. having to demolish destroyed buildings one by one is unbearable. you can recover 10x faster with the mod turned on.
The one problem with it is you don’t know where your buildings are getting abandoned or why. So if you’re just playing a regular city it can be hard to work out why those buildings were being abandoned and fix the issue.
@@rachelcookie321 It needs a toggle key then.
It’s called the disaster response unit
It fixes destroy buildings and rescues civilians and you don’t need to destroy anything
@@Whiskers4169 Exactly. This feature is already in the game and I'm honestly not sure how you miss it if you interact with the disaster infrastructure at all (and if you don't well RIP citizens I guess).
Forcing people to live on a mountain which occasionally goes on fire with little to no services while a tsunami will certainly hit is a true Cities Skylines experience.
Real civil engineer when fake uncivil architect walks in he made the tsunamis
What
I love how the people want water yet there is a huge tsunami coming at them in 7 minutes.
Tip for Matt: Coal plants need deliveries of COAL to function. A stable connection to the outside highway inlet will ensure that deliveries get there...unless they are wiped off the face of the map! ;)
-P.S Fire houses DO NOT have jail cells!
At the beginning of the video he references his extended experience of fighting tsunami and proceeds not to apply it at all. No single channel or damb was built at all!
Episodes like these make me feel good about my micromanagement abilities. I wonder how RCE would fare in a 20 minute population challenge.
Next earthquake's challenge
Round of applause to the indestructible lighthouse
Just imagine living in this place... Constant water and random fires. Eternal crime. Goddam.
EVERY time that alarm went off I looked down at my phone 😂
the problem here is that anarchy mode roads can break how roads intersect, your garbage collectors, police and fire engines didnt work because of that. Also some structures are far more resistant or downright invulnerable to tsunami damage, as you could see in the end there with the wind turbines.
1:33 Fun fact, poo outlets can't be destroyed by water. They literally work underwater.
RCE if you see glitching vehicle numbers where the number trys to rise and then resets instantly to the previous one. Doesn't have to be 0 to 1 to 0. It can happen also later. It means that at least one building on the entire map is not connected to a road like it should be. This is a pathfinding issue and destroys all of your services. All services break.
This is something I hope is addressed in CSL2. It'd be nice to have stuff like island resorts that work properly with just ferries or airplanes connecting to the outside.
Did you notice, that now when you click a few random citizens, some of them are "going to buy Cities Skylines II at *store-name*"?? Could be a nice myth for another episode of Real Civil Mythbuster :D
Your cities skylines videos are my fav on the channel. Can't wait to see a poocano built in the strongest shape in cities skylines 2
For me the first Tsunami was the sum of the severity 2 + the severity 9... So, in theory it was a severity 11
Cuz the severity 7 wasn't that destructive
Next time every 10 minutes an earthquake appear randomly
WHY POLISHION WHY
I’ve never played this game, but living like 20 feet from the Pacific Ocean, I click on anything that mentions tsunamis. Hopefully my city’s engineer’s do a better job protecting me🤣🤙🏻
I love how he is like " we got to help the city" when he doesn't put up walls to block the tsunami. Anyway love the vids. Cya soon!
I’d love to see another one of these disaster videos, but you actually using the disaster buildings. Evacuation and rebuild.
See how much of a difference they actually make
my new favourite sentence without context... "Oh No! My poo's killed all the tree's!"
Absolutely loving these - nothing funnier than panicking Matt xD
Those tiny roads at the beginning look just like some roads in Hollywood and San Diego here in California
My Dude, you should randomise the numbers on the Wheel of Severity. Your videos rock, man!
never disappointed with your content, keep up the good work!
Cities Skylines videos are my favorite video to watch of yours lol it’s always so chaotic
I think there is a mod that will auto delete the damaged buildings giveing you more time to just focuse on expanding.
Ok the disaster response unit literally dose that
Dose anyone know that exists? It’s extremely useful
Once again battling the sea. Gotta love it.
I can only imagine the realtors for this area.
"A tsunami hits every 10 minutes, but the schools are great!"
Always on top rce!
He never uses the features to save his population. Like this DLC has a whole feature set beyond the disasters themselves XD
Like shelters, and buoys and such
I guess the problem is he destroys everything too fast without chance to unlock stuff and build a city
@@Szczeppek I feel like he's not even aware the stuff is there tho XD
Thanks for this!! I love youtubers that don't feel the need to show their faces.
My favirite thing about RCE is that he's given me the best insult ever. I call people "the strongest shape" and it sounds like a compliment but its not.
Every cities skylines video I hear that little chuckle, makes me laugh lol.
love the tsunami videos please keep making more
Finally! I love the CS videos
It doesnt matter if the road is green in this case with cop station because they will go to the end of the city if needed to respond to the call, green road just shows where it is more effective
Lol you mentioned this in your new video😊
More of this but as a series
(Just please lower the severity to 10 when trying to start a new series)
You should do more Cities Skylines!
please ong I got to be at work in 5hrs and I haven't slept... perfect blend of interesting and low stakes... please help me sleep
These are the best videos of yours
I think the crime rate was so high because of all the destroyed buildings that were not demolished
Just letting you know that, despite watching your videos daily, RUclips didn't have it on my recommended page at all. I had to search for your channel, click into your channel page (because when I searched for your channel, it still wasn't listed in the results of your "latest uploads"), and find it through your uploaded videos tab.
Not sure why RUclips's terrible algorithm (or terrible content policies) seems to have so strongly disfavored this one for me, but I figured you might want to know.
You're an awesome and dedicated creator, and your videos help me get through a lot of coding!
Why not subscribe? Everyone knows you can't rely on your homepage
@@Koyol I am subscribed.
@@PlaneShaper2 Sorry. The way you worded it sounded like you weren't.
@@Koyol No worries :) I forgot that "homepage" was the right jargon for RUclips.
19:12 Looks like the boat is surfing 😂😂
Where’s the disaster response unit? It repairs all the broken buildings saving you a ton of money
for these challenges you should see if theres a mod to automatically delete all the destroyed buildings, would make it easier and save time ( i guess it kind of counts as cheating but idk)
there is a tool that removes any demolished build, but i think its cosidered cheating
12:14 biggest „im still standing“ moment in cities skylines history
Thanks for this!!
Tsunami: Sorry city but I'm about to make a big splash
Idea for efficient public transportation:
First, build "efficient" road infrastructure. Then, put two bus lines in each direction on that road. Now, one line would be going c*ckwise and the other one counterc*ckwise. *Efficient.*
City skylines idea: but there are no strongest shapes for once
Nooo 😢😢😢
those severity mods are pushing it over the top Matt
I love this do a video where you go up to severety of 100 ;)
When RCE copies the frog guy
How cool would it be to see rce play the isle
Patty's death is something that RCE fans aren't ready for
0:22 no mods installed yet you later reveal anarchy and a disaster severity mod are installed. I am surprised you don't used the auto delete abandoned buildings mod.
I loved the part when you said there wasn't any mods enabled and then used mods anyway, truly a master of trickery!
RCE should do a challenge where he has a limited water resource and has to make a million dollars before the people of the town use up all the water. Not allowed to add poo water to the clean water. Only water source is not allowed to have a water source block.
Your biggest failure imo was not funding and prioritising for infrastructure to prevent the effects of the tsunamis (trenches, flood walls, landscaping etc.)
I love these so much 😂
Think you should do it but use the disaster shelters etc to see how well you can cope with the disasters
NPCs say, 'Cripies, it's him! Run!'
I love your videos so much
Tip: spam the “disaster recovery center” (under the firefighting & disasters tab) it will send helicopters and trucks to rebuild buildings for you do you don’t need to demolish after the disaster
After the helicopters or trucks has been to each building, major buildings (anything that’s not from zoning) have a rebuild button when you click on it
This city doesn't need garbage service. Just leave your bins outside and let the tsunami take care of them.
there should be a multiplayer mod for this and then the second player can just attack you without you knowing when as you are not the one looking at the timer
Amazing
In this episode: The sea fights back and wins!
I think these videos would be a bit more interesting if you gave yourself like 30 minutes or so to get set up before starting the disaster timer. When you're immediately struggling just to keep your head above water from the instant the first disaster strikes, it ends up feeling a bit samey. But if you had to deal with what you'd already built being slowly eroded as you struggle more and more with the disaster's severity, it'd feel more engaging in my opinion.
Good call
Guy didn't even try to protect the city from the tsunamis...
i love the cities skylines vids
I think one of the power problems was caused by not demolishing the old power plant and just planting the new one on top of the demolished building
Love this
Biffa, perhaps some of your service woes were from the fact that some of your roads weren't connected correctly?
so guys there is a polt twist, so matt said everything got destroyed and only turbines survived, so heres the plot twist THE IMMORTAL SEA LANTERN SURVIVED
15:40
It's extra funny to me that you confused the fire station or the police station
Coz I've done it as well
Matt trying to build a city on Miller’s planet from interstellar
"Why am I losing money?" - [Never opens the budget window.]
kepp on makiing these awesome citeis skylines videos
Can we talk about how after the stage 17 tsunami he only had 69 😎 people left…
Obligatory *"NICE"*
on the bright side...the 22 severity put out the fires
Can’t wait for the cities skylines 2 gameplay
Have you Tried Out Park Beyond as I think it would be a great game for you to try and build crazy Roller Coasters with a possible Roller Coaster Bridge Review maybe.
17:42
18 MW > no money > 2 wind turbines > 64 MW
sounds fair
What if instead of minutes in real time you did like every 5 years in game time.
Ok you do know that there is an entire tab called “Disaster Response” in the fire tab right ? And that there is a building called the “Disaster Response Unit” that repairs destroyed buildings and you can rebuild things like police stations for a lot cheaper
The lighthouse survived all!
how about random disasters where the twice the severity is the bonus to the timer you get starting after the previous. so get a severity 4, you get 18 minutes. then a 8 adds 16 to make it 34. you either manage to recover well, or watch it go down cause random disaster means not much planning a defense.
How are you so funny 😂
I love it
