She is playing with pride for home country. It would do the country proud if she can go all the way. She had a breakout season winning Olympic gold beating Iga to win. A big big achievement. The next big milestone is a Grand Slam. Li Na was a trailblazer winning 2 Grand Slams so it will be a huge honor to follow in her footsteps.
Wonderful to watch her win. And see her coach Pere Riba with a big smile. Qinwen is playing well. Hope she will go far into the tournament. For those who do not know, she managed to get Pere Riba back as her coach after Wim Fissette left suddenly. And Pere Riba led her to the Australian Grand Slam finals and also the Olympic goal. Hopefully his team will help her win a Grand Slam, a goal she had since she was 11. But her short term goal is just to get to the WTA finals. She is a great tennis story. If she continues to win tournaments, she will become one of the most popular girls in China.
Thx for such nice comments. To me she is already the most popular Chinese girl. I like her so much. Definitely a role model to the young Chinese generation. ❤ ❤
@@emilywang6966 Her story in really amazing. Inspired as a young girl after watching Li Na and dreaming of winning a Slam since 11. And her parents sold their home to help finance some of her training. And her parents can see she has a chance to win a Grand Slam at 11 ? No wonder she joked that her father kept her Olympic goal at home to keep it safe. So she could not display it like Djokovic did at the US Open. It was funny.. She will definitely inspire many more young girls to play tennis in China.
Agree. Her tools are all getting pretty up there, the backhand is no joke, and if her first serve can be more consistent, and she gets a stronger second serve, her service game is pretty much top in the field. How do you think her drop shot disguise compares to peak Ons?
@@notapplicable4283 that’s a tough question…I think Ons has the better drop shot, but I think Zheng has the smarter drop shot. Ons makes her drop shot a huge part of her game, such that you’d think it would become predictable, but even people that can run couldn’t defend against it because she had the net game to back it up. From what I’ve seen, Zheng only uses it when she needs it, which in my opinion makes it more effective. Either way they both have great drop shots.
Another exceptional performance from Zheng. It totally makes domestic spectators and audiences happy and joyful. Chinese tenni competitor made the colossal breakthoughts throughout the whole season, especially with the AO final and Olympic Championship.
Physicallly and mentally, Qinwen has it all. Plus immense talent to boot. Wim Fissette must be kicking himself for abandoning her to coach Naomi Osaka, who has just sacked him. It worked out very well in the end, as Qinwen is a much stronger player under Pere Riba.
How well behaved, respectful and civilised the chinese spectators are!... Of course, they are cheering for the local player but never abusing, disrespecting or interfiering with the rival. Even, clapping for and celebrated those rivals after a point well won. What a difference with the nasty behaviour of the Melbourne mob, during the last four years of the Australian Open, which I have witnessed in person. Those nasty locals felt they can actively participate in the match and help the locals, celebrating to the delirum the rival´s double faults, interrupting their rythm on the service or disturbing them between points. It is also happening in New York at the US Open. Shame on those despicable cowards!... And my respect and thanks to the polite chinese crowds...
EU fans, and to some extent, Australian fans, think that their tickets allows them not only to watch the matches but to affect it. So they feel free to use harsh language, racist yells, and disruptive screams to try to help their favorite player win. It is classless, and unnecessary. Take it a step further, and you have what you sometimes get in Europe when rival teams play. The fans break out into violence and fights, and lots of people get hurt. They even coined the phrase soccer hooligans for fans like these. In China, the fans know they are watching a sport, with athletes on both sides of the net who have worked very hard to get this far, and deserve their respect. I guess my overall feeling is that in China the people there have respect for themselves, and so they have respect for athletes. In the EU and Australia, too often that is not the case.
Po is a power hitter, Zheng would have a hard time to deal with if they were met before, but now queen wen has reached a different level, very much a better player, so just cruising along the way.
Did you mean Podoroska? This is actually the second time they played each other. Qinwen beat Podoroska 6-0, 6-1 last year at the US Open. This time it was much more competitive and much more entertaining
At the beginning of the match there was tension even in the audience, then Qinwen loosened up and mercilessly beat the poor Podoroska, who defended herself as much as she could, a remarkable show of strength.
They both have reached a GS semifinal. Podoroska reached the French Open semifinal in 2020 while Zheng was even better, she reached this year Australian Open final
Save some strength for the big match. This sport is not just about skills. Both physical and mental faculty needs to be really strong to go all the way!
Kinda like a boxing bout. First round was just feeling out the opponent to see what he/she has. She will not be able to do this with a stronger opponent. Good defense, stamina and strategy. This is her coach's responsibility.
Not only am I a Zheng fan, but I will automatically root against any tennis player, (especially female ones) who scream or grunt on every shot as if she is giving birth that very second. Podoroska mostly grunts loudly, she is not the super annoying shreaker or screamer that some female players are. But the grunting is still unnecessary and an affectation. Most men don't even grunt, and there is definitely no need to scream or screech. Navratalova, Chris Evert, and all players of that era played very well, and none of them needed to scream on EVERY shot like they she is having an orgasm or giving birth.

Zheng was on fire during this match, and it's nice to see her play so well, and even more in her own country.
But vs iswiatek is weak

Beast mode. Goes way beyond hard hitting and accurate, she’s got a really clever way of timing when she commits to a drop shot
Zheng please go all the way, you are amazing and very entertaining!
Congratulations Queen Zheng 🎉Hope u go deep in this tournament🎉❤
My opinion…Zheng has the best drop shot disguise I’ve seen in a while

This is great hitting. On fire and accurate. We'll done!!!
Omg Zheng didn’t come to BS she is really showing everyone what she is capable of because Ponderosa was playing extremely well! I applaud
It was a hard fought match. The match was closer than the score line. Job well done, Zheng. Move on to the Final.👋💪💪👏
Zheng is the real goddess of my heart.
Playing against the best will improve Podoroska's tennis level.
She did very well against Zheng.
The fact that Zheng's game gets better every season is going to be a problem for a lot of players.
