It was a pleasant surprise to see a photo in the news of an Indian Air Force cargo flight at the airport with the relief supplies even before other neighboring countries could provide aid. Your actions have filled us with pride in our Indian heritage. Never before have we witnessed such a compassionate gesture from India, including during the turbulent times of 1987 when the military coup forced many Indians to flee the country or endure racial hatred. Still, I am dismayed at Modi's (and the BJP) lackluster support for Ukraine -- keeping relations with Russia because of it being a supplier of war kit despite the obvious fact that Russia prefers China's support is, to say the least, not very smart geopolitcally. I sincerely hope this will change.

      @@Asehpe make a judgment about that one needs to know the history between and of all possible countries involved. Now, if the argument is that the Ukraine war should have bigger relevance for a neutral country than the long term safety of its own citizens, think that is expecting a bit much. India is not a vassal state of Europe. Also, the cultivated misconception that India has, ‘ sided, ‘ with Russia, because it is a military supplier to India. India get its arms from the US , France, and a few other European countries as well. Funnily what everyone misses is that no European country has refused arms sales to India, in spite of criticizing it for its ties to Russia. So I guess a lot depends not on principle,but on which direction the moneys flowing. Then there is that whole question of criticizing India far is oil imports, while European countries were doing the same, and from the exact same country .For many in the world that’s called hypocrisy. Having said that India has always been empathetic to loss of life, anywhere, under any circumstances and provided a lot of humanitarian aid in times of crisis, including to Ukraine. In fact, even to countries who have historically wished bad for India or go back to wishing bad for India immediately after the aid is handed over. That is part of the Indian fabric. But I think other countries should also be aware that life-changing and important wars and events happened in non-European countries as well, and the lives of those citizens are not dispensable. And also the trade hypocrisy and voting record of European countries in these conflicts, some thing that is been spoken of so much in the Ukraine war. It’s not a pretty picture. Non-European lives do not have less value than European lives. As is never explicitly, said, but often implied. An attitude that Europeans need to decondition themselves from in the New World

    • @pranav5102
      @pranav5102 Год назад +13

      @@Asehpe Few things here -
      1. The relations with russia go much beyond it being the supplier of weapons and oil. Russia ( then USSR ) stood for us in 1971 when the western nations supported Pakistan. In the recent past - US used to supply weapons to Pakistan for war on terror in Afghanistan inspite of having the knowledge that Pakistan diverted those same weapons against India.
      2. "Russia prefers China's support" - Russia's relationship with China and its relationship with India stands on different pedestals. Its alligned with China against the west - does not necessarily means it is against India. To give you an example - Russia invited India to Shanghai Coop Org ( SCO ) - fearing China's dominance of the group
      3. Just because we are trading with Russia - does not mean we are supporting war. PM's comments that " This is not an era of war" to Putin is a testament to the fact
      3. National interest take priority above everything. We cant let our people suffer due to a war that is not ours.
