Nice! I think that the outcome is different when starting with the melody instead of starting with the chords. With melody first, the chord progression and timing often is a bit different. John Williams (Back to the future for example) seems to go with melody first because his chords are very much following the melody. It also tends to be more unique that way but it's sometimes more challanging, I think.
Thanks, Chris. I’m relatively new to orchestral composition and piano sketching is generally my go to… I tend to get a few more bad eggs than you seem to at the outset - I’m sure that’ll come in time..!😊
This was a really great reminder how powerful a good piano sketch is! I'm currently scoring a short film and found myself trying to be complicated too soon haha 😂 Such a great video! Definitely sending this to the newer composers who ask me how to start composing 🤗

Thanks Adrian! Yes you’re totally right, I reversed it to try not to block the lower left corner for some other videos I recorded as well, but I should’ve reset it haha. Sorry about that!
