Good Morning Katie and welcome back. It is so nice to see you starting on the projects for spring, I am so ready for the warmer weather and planting time. You guys be safe and see ya again soon.
Thanks for the feedback! The brightness really does add to the atmosphere in the greenhouse-can’t wait to see how the plants thrive in that environment! Now I just have to find a way to keep it clean
PS, I had put my tomatoes in bato buckets for the first time about 3 weeks ago, and sure enough i went to pull up the emitter stakes and the roots hand already grabbed a hold of it. thanks for the tip
Yeah just keep the stakes a little above the top of the perlite and it helps. Also I move the stakes around in the bucket after the plants get established and that really helps
You're a delight to watch as always Katy. We're over £20 for 100 litres (smaller than your bags) of perlite here in the UK - yours is a bargain! I use hydroton clay pebbles in net pots (dwc buckets) which are very reusable.. although the clay pebbles seem to end up everywhere!😮 First chilli seedlings coming up in the grow tent here in north east Scotland.
Thanks for the kind words! It's awesome to hear that your chili seedlings are popping up. Hydroponics can be such a rewarding journey! cropking.com/catalog/bato-growing-accessories-growing-media-perlite/perlite-horticulture-coarse-4-cu-ft
Thank you, Graham! Sorry to hear about the cost. The link where I get it is cropking.com/catalog/bato-growing-accessories-growing-media-perlite/perlite-horticulture-coarse-4-cu-ft There is a Amish irrigation store about 45 minutes from me that actually sell is for around 10 bucks a bag. No website but I know if you look around you can find it. Hopefully cheaper in Australia
Y’all’s videos are why I started hydroponics. I don’t have a green house but I run 50 buckets. I get a lot of produce but can’t take the next step to sell. Any advice?
That's awesome to hear you're diving into hydroponics! Running 50 buckets is impressive. To take the next step to sell, consider local farmers' markets or community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs. Networking with local restaurants might also be a great way to get started! Thats what I did. I also found the local food bank needed produce and would actually pay a little to get produce because they never got it. Also, a write off. I hope that helps
Hi Katie, I'm getting ready for my growing season. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind: What do you do with the DTW overflow? What percentage of runoff do you want with your perlite bato buckets? As always, thank you.
We monitor our DTW very careful and adjust the watering time and event to make sure we have almost nothing going to waste. What does come out goes into a large sump pit and is pumped into a 320-gallon tote that we use to water and fertilize our hay field. When we do a nutrient change, this is also where the water is pumped and collected. We strive for almost no runoff
Love this bato bucket hydroponic system..the used of nutrients more efficient and not wasted but keeping recycling..am I right mam? Do you recycle the perlite too? Do you run the nutrition 24 hours?
Absolutely! The BATO bucket system is all about maximizing efficiency. You're spot on about nutrient recycling! As for perlite, it can be reused but just make sure to clean it properly. And yes, running the nutrients 24/7 is a great way to keep those plants happy in a recycling system in my drain to waste I just water 20 seconds every 30 minutes right now until the weather changes
@HomegrownPassion wow! Thanks for answering my questions. This system is not popular in my country yet. Hope to implement this systems in my greenhouses soon, to be more efficiency in the used of nutrients and energy.. thanks once again mam!
Do you get a lot of algae on top of your perlite? If so, does it cause problems? I have a small system and use covers that I cut to fit. Mostly because that’s what I saw from other videos. They are kind of a pain when starting out and was wondering if I could just omit them.
Algae can definitely be a challenge in hydroponics! It can affect plant growth if not managed properly. Using covers is a good method to reduce light exposure, but if they’re a hassle, the last couple of years I have not used the covers. Algae not as bad I thought. I think the stakes help by putting water in just one small area the top of the perlite stays dry and does not grow Algae.
I'm sorry I added it to the description but your right it's not there. Here you go. cropking.com/catalog/bato-growing-accessories-growing-media-perlite/perlite-horticulture-coarse-4-cu-ft
Didn’t realize your floor is at a slope. Smart! Love watching your videos. You guys are so organized! Don remember….. what emitter GPM?
yes, Bato buckets are 0.5gpm
Thank you for sharing. Very educative!
I'm glad you found it educational! Hydroponics is such an exciting way to grow plants.

soon.
Good morning! I'm excited for spring too! Can't wait to see all the amazing plants we can grow together. Stay safe and see you soon!
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you so much. The white floor Looks awesome 😎
I'm glad to hear you enjoy the videos! The white floor really does add a nice touch to the setup, doesn’t it?
Hi looks fantastic and you will certainly needs your sunglasses working in your green house the floor makes it way brighter 😎

spraying water into your perlite bags helps with the dust. keep up the good work, your videos have helped me a lot.

That floor looks phenomenal!
It turned out nice now I just have to find a way to keep it clean.
Amazing have u ever had a problem with root aphids an tips to address it

Fabulous. Looking good! You mentioned adding a link to your perlite source but I didn't see it.
