Wow what a phenomenal car review. You've got a natural talent for this. Keep up the great work, this stuff is much better than 95% of the other car reviews out there.
It's so crazy how far they've come. you can see especially with Thomas how his stage presence got so much better. Way more smooth and confident now than when he started. But when James joined everything changed.@@LucidLoki
The new M2C is brilliant. It’s BMW going up on the mountain and finding their M car soul again. The new M2 Competition is really what a “M car” is all about. The M5 is just a high hp touring car that is too heavy and big. Small fast cars that handle like a scalpel and go like stink are what M cars are all about. Even the new 3 series is too big and what a 5 series use to measure. Porsche has actually made the new 992 feel more numb than the 991 which is depressing. The M2C is a light that there is still a purist performance car coming out of Germany.
I have just over 1,500 miles on my M2 Competition. And, I second 98% of everything in this review! (save fort the rev-matching which I like for more casual everyday driving). I considered the dual-clutch tranny, but very happy I went with the 6-speed. I'll be doing DE days next year and can't wait to get track time with this car under my belt. And, yes I've driven both an automatic 2016 and a manual 2018 M2 (road use only). They are GREAT cars! The M2 Competition, however, is simply fantastic. To understand you gotta get seat time in one. It's phenomenal!
Good to read. I have been conflicted about what to get, but am now convinced the Competition is worthy, despite the ugly wheels, the muffler protruding out the back and the extra weight. Just things I have to either change or learn to live with. My pristine e46 m3 sadly is on the chopping block, but I am ready to get something new and a GT Porsche is twice the money, so M2C it is.
Norman, I felt the same as you, completely. Check out the performance of the 2019 M2C on the Ring. The car is simply amazing, and at 1/2 the cost of a Carrera T with a few needed options. I'm 2X as impressed as the day I bought the car some 2,000 miles ago!! The wheels have grown on me. But the exhaust appearance, not so. REMUS will eventually solve that problem. BTW... IMHO the performance exhaust on the 2018 M2 was deplorable. It kept me from buying a going out-of-production model. Good luck on your purchase.
Doug, glad to hear that you like it so much. I'm going to see if I can find one that is already build, rather than ordering one. It appears that demand isn't as great as I first thought it would be. I had a deposit for one early on, but then changed my mind. If it wasn't for the cost, I would still get a GT4 or a 991 T, but it is like you said, very hard to justify spending the extra money, plus the M2C has usable rear seats. I found a buyer for my e46 M3, and I hate to let it go. It's dialed in, low miles and just perfect, but it is, by today's standards, a bit slow. I hate not being able to keep up with the big guns on track anymore and I think the M2C can hang with them, reasonably well.
I have a 2018 M2 and love it. This car just gives BMW legitimacy to keep challenging the competitors.. this is good. But after the smoke clears, I love my M2!
the M2 CP its heavier than an M3 plus 90 lbs , and /or 150 lbs over standar M2 affecting its agility. The M2 CP Its an extremely heavy vehicle and not for competiton. standar M2 its lighter , with forgued engine and forgued aluminium chasis.
@@juancruz-jg5pq actually, there's barely any weight difference between the M3 DCT (3631lbs) and the M2C (3655lbs). If you want to compare the Manual M3 (3574lbs) to the M2C (3582lbs) then it's negligible again. If you're going to talk smack, you better get your facts straight first. The M2C is significantly better than the old M2, so get the fuck over it.
Thomas, collected my manual Competition last week after owning the previous model for 12 months and I have to say that the new car has taken the game on soo far its incredible, no one will believe how good this car is until they drive it. Feels 40% better in every way to me. Big brakes are a must with this extra power/torque if you want to drive it hard. I am using the car as my daily and excited every time I drive it. Great video.....
yo made a big mistake because the M2 CP its heavier than an M3 plus 90 lbs , and /or 150 lbs over standar M2 affecting its agility. The M2 CP Its an extremely heavy vehicle and not for competiton. standar M2 its lighter , with forgued engine and forgued aluminium chasis.

@@rembo183 I agree, wish they would have addressed that with a bigger diffuser or something. It's not a deal breaker, but just a slight lack of refinement. Although, it could just be thought of as pure function. But a missed opportunity to get that back just right.
I finally got my 21 M2C two weeks ago!! It's still in the break in period so I don't know what it can fully do yet. Been lucky enough to own a few M cars over the years. I can already tell this one is going to be epic. This was one of the reviews that made me buy it. Thanks
Hey Thomas, love your channel. You and James do it right. I bought a Sunset Orange M2 Comp about a month ago. Your video pushed me to pull the trigger. Been driving inline 6’s for the past 25 years - all 3’s including an E46 M3 (regret trading it in). What a ride. I also own 992 C4S and it’s surgical. But this M2 Comp is such a blast especially with everything off. Cheers to you, James, and your crew. Keep making great content. You’ll always have a fan here.
Have owned E46 and E92M, and currently own F80 M3 and M2c. This review is spot on. The ride is not harsh, but it is firm. Test drive if you think that might bother you. Agree steering feel could be better but it is linear and precise. S55 sounds better in M2c than F80 M3. Slicktop for the win! If you love the E46 (and who doesn't), you will love M2c!
Just got my new m2 competition this review is spot on. I’ve driven many m cars this is on another level. Regarding the throttle the new bmw motors use valvetronic so the throttle body is always open but the valves are what controls throttle from the pedal super responsive.

Thank you Thomas--I'd been on the fence for a while and this gave me that extra push in the right direction! I ordered my 2021 M2 Competition today from BMW of San Luis Obispo in California (I live in Pennsylvania). Why getting M2C when you already own a standard M2? Yes, M2C is slightly faster and better but practically the same car... yes, I also own a M2... love it
Electronic steering is the way it is now and while it's very precise it's still a shame that they don't offer hydraulic steering. You were always able to get great feedback from the older M cars. That's why I still love the E46 M and why I believe the 1M is the greatest M car in terms of linear power and pure driving experience.
Brought home 2020 M2Comp 2 days ago. I was also cross shopping with M4 and Tesla M3P but after Elon lowered the price of model 3 by $2k I'm sure I made the right call. Tesla is great as a daily but nothing beats the excitement of being behind the wheel of this super coupe.
What he said at 7:23: that's what causes that slower revving? The turbo? I just bought a manual 228i after driving a Honda Prelude that revs to 7400 (loved it) and noticed this. My prelude would rev extremely fast when I would just touch the throttle. The BMW I need to hold for a moment, probably my biggest gripe
I don't think the s55 can ever be confused as being NA, yes it responds initially like an NA car but you have to wait for the note to deepen and harden. Once you turn off the fake sounds it's very noticeable

Yes that is honestly the essence of a fun car. Take the new 2021 Vette which is an amazing value and car, but you have to drive that at higher speeds to feel the same engagement as these smaller cars. I'm looking at the 2021 M2C because I miss that feel and fun I used to get from my Alfa 4C. The AMG 43 I have now just feels numb. :(
I have a 2008 Miata PRHT and used it a daily. Only problem is it’s a automatic. But it’s a great handling fun car. This M2Comp is looking good to me but it’s price pint is so high. Don’t you think $65k is too much compared to the value in a used Miata. I only paid $10k!
@ThrottleHouse Thomas & James, I'm looking into new cars for dailying & back road/canyon carving. I have a 16 ATSV Sedan & am seriously considering a few cars. C8 Z51, C8 Z06 base, 3.0 Supra, M2 Competition. Wife has 18 GTI. I LOVE fast driving & occasional track day.
Hey Thomas I enjoy your amazing car reviews I reside in New York suburbs and I have $60 K to spend on a non daily driver/toy Which would you honestly choose ? A) 2019 Bmw M2 Competition with manual transmission Or B) 2018 Shelby gt350 Mustang
(I'm not Thomas) pick the M2. It's not a question and it looks better plus it's more comfortable and there's more mods for it out there if u ever wanna mad it further
Yep, so sad but true. They really F*** up losing the flat 6 for a four pot turbo. Lost sales, Porsche if you read this, lose the 4 pot, its just not for you. Ever.
Was the brake pedal very sensitive? When I drove an M4 I struggled to heel & toe a bit because the brake was so touchy! Awesome review by the way, you really captured what a driver wants to feel and what they would feel in an M2C!

you say that traction control is enabled when in sport plus but that's incorrect, only stability is enabled in that mode. pretty big difference
Best thing I like about new BMW M2 series is big fun without having to do ridiculous speed!
I can tell you now, put your foot down in an M2, and you're doing ridiculous speed!
Nice review but I would not want to down shift it to 4th and expect and high revs with no lag
I'm waiting for the m2csl in 2019...
Herr von der Geiß what is going to be different about it?
Lighter and faster one would think.
Is this even happening? I thought this was the last hurrah for this generation of M2
I doubt there will be a CSL. The M Performance parts that will be available soon, is likely to be bits and pieces taken from what would've the CSL.
pardon my stupidity, I'm new to this, but whats the difference between CSL, CS, GTS and Competition?? and theres a M3 LCI too?
Nice sound! Here in europe the m2 competition sounds like shit cause of the otto particle filter 😥
Can a 6'3 250 lbs cat fit bro ?
I have a 2008 Miata PRHT and used it a daily. Only problem is it’s a automatic. But it’s a great handling fun car. This M2Comp is looking good to me but it’s price pint is so high. Don’t you think $65k is too much compared to the value in a used Miata. I only paid $10k!
I'm ordering one tomorrow!
why not go the whole 9 yards and make m2 GTS
Clubsport would be even better
I say it will be out in 2-3 years
Nah man, I'd love to see another CSL. Perfect opportunity right there if you ask me.
I am seriously thinking about trading my C7 convertible (which is a beautiful car and I love it) for one of these. Wish I could afford both.
Hey Thomas I enjoy your amazing car reviews
I reside in New York suburbs and I have $60 K to spend on a non daily driver/toy
Which would you honestly choose ?
A) 2019 Bmw M2 Competition with manual transmission
Or
B) 2018 Shelby gt350 Mustang
(I'm not Thomas) pick the M2. It's not a question and it looks better plus it's more comfortable and there's more mods for it out there if u ever wanna mad it further
Porsche has lost sight with the 4 cyl turbo in the Cayman S. This is a better drivers/fun car now..
Yep, so sad but true. They really F*** up losing the flat 6 for a four pot turbo. Lost sales, Porsche if you read this, lose the 4 pot, its just not for you. Ever.
@@crimsonpirate1710 porsche is so scared to make the cayman more powerful
That's such bullshit. The GT4 comes with the 6, the 4 pot is great for the regular version.
Ok but this vs ct4v blackwing
I love my new GTI but damn this would have been my first pick if I made a little more money.
The placement of the front license plate is cringe. Kills the entire look.
Better than drilling holes in the bumper.
Throttle House You don’t have to drill your bumper to attach plates
The plate looks fine, stop being such a little girl
LOL who said you have to drill holes?
@@ThrottleHouse you drill them once and thats that lol
I bought one and I love it
Great review man. I feel same way about cars as you do.
Thumbs up.
Was the brake pedal very sensitive? When I drove an M4 I struggled to heel & toe a bit because the brake was so touchy!
Awesome review by the way, you really captured what a driver wants to feel and what they would feel in an M2C!
I did as well with the m4 actually. But this one felt maybe a bit less sensitive?
@@ThrottleHouse Awesome, good to know! Thanks for the response. 👍
Dream Car. Job well done Sir
You’re like the Seth rogen of car guys. Nice.
finally a reviewer driven manual
Great Video Brother!
best review ever
love yr reviews so great
No James yet? Huh
Wait where is James?
