I live in Northern Canada. I'm 49 yrs old. I never heard of boiled peanuts until I drove to Florida in 2012. We stopped and bought some from an old guy on the side of the road. I can't believe I had been eating peanuts wrong my entire life. Not easy to get raw peanuts here, but when I do, I try to make up for 39 lost years.

I boiled some at a festival in Ohio once. An older gentleman got a bag and came back a few minutes later. He said he liked the taste but that they were to woody for him. I asked him to explain what he meant by woody. At that point he popped a peanut in his mouth and chewed it up, shell and all.
I blew his mind when I showed him how to hull them 🤣🤣🤣

I grew up eating boiled peanuts, but never lived in the south. Grew up in San Diego, where my Filipino mother and Aunts would boil a pot for most get togethers in the summer. Especially if we were celebrating outside. Lawn chairs, boiled peanuts and watermelon means summer is here.

I freaking love boiled peanuts! I'm a Yankee by birth but a southerner by choice. I've been living in the Florida panhandle a little over 20years. When I first moved here dry roasted peanuts and peanut butter had been my only experience with peanuts. Boiled peanuts sounded disgusting to me. But I've been hooked since the first time I tried them. And have also since grown them. Most Yankees have never had them and have no idea what they're missing out on. It's a bit of a southern secret to the rest of the country

To anyone that cannot find boiled peanuts, they have texture similar to chic peas. Some people I’ve known to freak out over the texture because they’re used to peanuts being crunchy. I prefer boiled. Canned boiled peanuts sold at Walmart are too salty, gotta buy roadside and have with orange crush.

Now now. On the boiled peanuts can we come to a compromise. I love okra, only one in my house who does. But I'm just not fond of the boiled peanut. Yes I've tried them, texture thing I guess. But my husband likes them so maybe I get some household credit. I haven't missed any of the videos, just haven't been able to comment in a little while. My gardening and planting have almost come to a complete halt due to medical complications. I'm fighting my way back though it's just taking me longer than I anticipated on getting things done. I would like to know how Brooklyn 🤔 processes/uses her turmeric. Finally got around to getting a few baby chick's. I've lost 2 so far, but it's OK. They are in chick heaven now. I would have to go back and rewatch the videos to remember what questions I had. I got my LSU gold fig tree planted in ground finally though! Yay! Loving the channel. Missing Brooklyn and the boys! Stay away from the waterside. OH and what was this I remembered you saying about maybe not planting as many tomatoes 🤔. We are in the south we can't help planting too many tomatoes! Go Eddie!! I mean uh go Travis!!!!

Boiled peanuts are a Hawaiian delicacy and love them! They originated from the Chinese immigrants that came to work the sugar cane and pineapple fields. In Hawaii, they are boil in their shell with sea salt and a anise seed or two, which gives them a floral licorice flavor.

I'm originally from upstate NY. Never heard of boiled peanuts growing up. Visited Savannah for vacation a few years back before I moved here and that was the first time I tried them. It was at Davis Produce out on Wilmington Island. I'll never forget the lady told me when I tried them that they're more like a salty bean or legume that a traditional roasted peanut. I loved them but I'll never forget that description.

I was raised on them. Around here the farmers use to use peanuts as a nitrogen fixer or a bumper crop between corn, cotton or tobacco harvests so we could ride down the road and find farmers boiling peanuts in stainless 55 gallon drums in their homemade brine. The canned ones are no where near as good as fresh ones from the fields down-the-road from your house. I've never grown them but may try it because most farmers have stopped growing them around here unfortunately.

Hey Travis, I love the channel! I appreciate the explanations that you give to things. So, about boiled peanuts. I'm a lifelong northerner, but my mother is from Mississippi. Whenever I visit the south I LOVE boiled peanuts! I have to admit, I never had heard of them until about 15. years ago. They are unheard of up here. My daughter and her husband now live in Athens Ga, and for a gift they sent me a "boiled peanuts kit" which had the raw peanuts, the seasoning pack, and instructions. I made them up for the family reunion. Well, I ate about a third of them, and nobody else would touch them. Eh, a few tried one, mumbled something and walked away. Northerners.... can't trust 'em. I'm also growing a Big Zac for the contest. Get ready!

Grew up in SC and was raised on boiled peanuts. My Momma was very picky about the variety of peanut, how much salt to use, and how long to soak them and man were they ever good. The early 80s found me on the faculty of The Ohio State University where nobody seemed to have ever heard of boiled peanuts. Late one summer my aunt came for a visit with a large bag of green peanuts in tow. I boiled up a big batch and took them to work. The native Ohioans either weren't interested in eating any or simply looked at them and said, "eoow!" However one of my colleagues was a Tuskegee graduate who was ecstatic at the sight of them. Half an hour later there was this black guy and this white guy sitting on the steps of our building gobbling down the peanuts with peanut juice dribbling down our chins and beatific expressions on our faces.

I’ve heard boiled peanuts were tasty, but I’ve never had any, or even seen anyone selling them round here. Next time I go south I’ll need to grab me some.

Love the “bald” peanuts down here in Baton Rouge! Regular salty and Cajun. Even had them boiled in crab boil before. No shortage of vendors for boiled peanuts either. They have them at every gas station, snowball stand, and every half mile on the side of the road. Lol!

Love boiled peanuts, especially vallencia-style nuts. The jumbo peanuts are just ok, but better than nothing

I like boiled peanuts. You don't see much of them in New Mexico or Colorado but I sure do like them when I go down south.
I first ate boiled peanuts in 1980 when I was stationed in Georgia.

Travis, maybe you could show us how to fix boiled peanuts and what they look like cooked. I don't think I have had them.

I was raised in deep south MS and my granny grew her own peanuts every year to boil, and I helped as much as a child could from as far back as I can remember. I remember the first batch of the season was pretty much dinner that night because the whole family would come over and granny would pour them out on to the table and we'd eat until we got a belly ache. It was more than a snack, it was a family tradition and some of my fondest memories.
As an adult I introduced my husband to boiled peanuts on our first drive down for him to meet my family. Sadly, granny was gone by that time so it was just a can from a roadside, but I got him hooked. Hopefully, I'll be able to grow enough this year to boil myself and start the tradition over in my family up here in Memphis. Strangely, I haven't ever seen them up here.

I am from New Jersey, I like boil peanuts 🥜. Yes, I have southern roots and I can only get them when I travel down south or someone coming up and they will bring back for me. They are good when you get them from down South. 😏
