He has always been a musician, (his original youtube channel was called "DizastaMusic") but he took a kind of break once he found success on youtube. He played a character named "Filthy Frank" and did a bunch of like, shock material type stuff. Not really pranks but just shock stuff for the pure of shock. So it was kind of eye opening for someone like that to make beautiful music like he's been making.
He even made music under his character's name in the past that was pretty good. I didn't like it too much because it was along his line of shock comedy, but he definitely had some good material as well. And joji can rap, in fact the only songs I liked from when he used the Filthy Frank name were his raps.
The reason he stopped doing youtube was because it was causing him stress induced seizures, and he wasn't really passionate about it anymore. He's very passionate about his music however, and I'm excited to see him grow further.
Great comment bro hopefully they see it. I didn't like his really early stuff, like medicine, but his stuff after he stopped filthy Frank has been so good. I actually liked some of the shock comedy music he was putting out too. They we're hilarious to me at the time. I would bump it in my friend's car around town lol

The reason for Joji turning over to music was because he had all the characters (Pink guy, filthy frank etc.) and felt as if no one was seeing him as a normal person like us, he started having stress induced seizures, depression and anxiety. He made music to change things up which he gained huge succession from and immediately started creating more music which his fans loved, basically causing all of his comedy and skits to be left behind.

And also he started to become those characters. Even acting as filthy frank off camera, around his family and friends. So he decided to adopt a new character and keep that character permanently, then he created Joji.

I was listening to this on the bus in heavy rain on my commute to uni yesterday.
It's like it all clicked, his whole vibe is like when someone in a music video breaks up with their partner and is staring out a window onto a rainy day.
This kind of sombre reminiscing tone fits most of his music very well.
Joji used to be filthy frank which was essentially a comedy channel where he was controversial (rip pappa frank) and did music in the background on a second channel. He then stopped filthy frank to work more closely on music and has released a couple mixtapes/albums I believe

Although he wants her to come back she wont let her because hes a bad boyfriend (hence "when im around slow dancing in the dark,don't folow me you'll end up in my arms.") The arrow is also a symbol for love (cupid's arrow) and the goat legs could be a symbol for the devil im not to sure.

Right now he is in the top 5 R&B charts and he is doing really well with his first album ballands 1. One song i recommend listening to is yeah right thats in his album as well. For a small history lesson he used to be filthyfrank, an edgy internet persona that would make crazy, disgusting and really weird videos. He used to rap as pink guy but later on he quit comedy in general because he doesnt find it funny anymore and he apparentlly had some health issues because of those videos so now he got more into music

He's the face behind the legendary Filthy Frank and Pink Guy. Many people (perhaps most prominently H3H3) see him as one of the most original people this site has ever had. He left RUclips last year in order to pursue music under his other persona Joji, much like Bo Burnham left RUclips to pursue stage shows and now directing.
