The background at 17:19 had me almost in tears. Got Curve balled by that. On my PC shopping list is an upgrade to the 40 series of cards; probs would go for a 4090 or a more advanced CPU than the one I have; a Ryzen 9 would be solid.
Ok Episode 33? Who knew...just saw this on X and though I'd give it a go (liked and retweeted or re-x-ed??)...like what I heard and have subscribed. I am pretty bad at sleeping so the back catalogue of episodes will be on my Midnight Play list, yes your up there with the likes of the BBC Radio Sherlock Holmes series, a Book at bedtime and the awesome StarTalk😀. What would I upgrade? Hmmmm...storage is always an issue or upgrade from Total War: Warhammer 2 to Total War: Warhammer 3 (Not 100% sure if that would be an upgrade though!) Either way I enjoyed the show and have loved watching your main Channel for many a year now. Merry Christmas to your good self and the family 🎄
The main problem with Nvidia is they give you all the encoding tools and the software to do it but not enough VRAM or the sufficient hardware to play the actual games you will be creating with well into the future unless you want to pay 1000s. If you want to do a Cyberpunk or Indian Jones playthrough or create content on a heavier game you will be paying for it. My 7800XT has enough VRAM to last me until 2027-2028 for comparison. You'd need to upgrade every 3-4 years which is just not something people are doing anymore (including me). Lots of people want to upgrade every 3-4 generations now for playing games. They then expect you to use DLSS Upscaling (which is really great from what I've seen) to try and get back some performance (and it does) but Frame Gen is a load of garbage that produces artifacts. AMD will get on this level of software and encoding features eventually but who knows when that will be. Nvidia has built a software and technology moat. Its basically a monopoly of sorts except Nvidia don't have to really go out and stifle their competition (even though they've already actually done that anyway several times) because if AMD or Intel tries to compete, Nvidia just lowers margins and torpedoes whatever they try to compete with, or use their seemingly boundless resources to fix any issues (i.e. the new Nvidia App) AMD/Intel are trying to offer better features for. AMD/Intel lose money and then lose share price if they aren't making enough money from consoles or processor sales. Hopefully, the next generation after this one is when things look more on par. Nvidia had a head start on this software and encoding stuff by about a decade so its taking ages for there to be any competition. Its the next generation of waiting. Tbh if you could afford to wait I would say to this person to be buying a PC next year after new stuff is coming out in the New Year at CES (better AMD GPUs and last gen Nvidia GPUs for lower prices 7900XTX maybe closer to 600 or 500 and not 800, FSR 4 information and new Nvidia GPUs and Nvidia software stuff too. I record on OBS using H.265 on AMD and its serviceable for what I want (YT gameplay run videos), at decent quality and in the rare occasion I might decide to stream, my 5900X has been able to handle things at 720p on a few games (1080p is just not worth doing). AV1 might be great on that CPU but on mine its not good enough. Lastly HW AV1 has a hardware level bug on AMD 7000 series not fixable in software where it outputs at 1920 1082 resolution and not 1920 1080 so I'd not recommend using it and use your CPU instead. Maybe RDNA 4 will have fixed this but again who knows? . And to correct you AMD does have the Advanced Broadcasting Beta toggles in the latest OBS version however I have no idea if it works properly or not and I don't think it has AV1. Twitch will probably roll it all out over the next 1-2 years hopefully for AMD and Nvidia. Intel won't be included.
I disagree about the VRAM being lacking on Nvidia cards. Vram is very under utilised and under-optimised in most games. Can't see most mid tier+ nvidia gpus struggling with vram requirements. It's more down to devs not optimising well for current amounts of vram. Hardware wise nvidia are well beyond what amd are capable of especially for creators. If you create content nvidia is the clear choice as you say likely for the bect decade.

Would love an RTX 4090 and a motherboard to super speed my editing process for allllll the warhams vids!
Love the pod guys :)
What I really need is a new PC. You've read my part list, and Id stick to that.
In terms of set upgrades I'm sort of lacking in terms of elgato gear like a stream deck and a decent capture card
