John Blanche taught me how to paint back in 88, he used to go to the stores sometimes and you could just sit at a table and paint a selection of models, John would just give you advice and show you techniques to try, he was this huge biker guy with a Denim jacket with the sleeves cut off back then, and gotta admit he also influenced my dress sense ever since meeting him, I painted an old le1 Metal Power Armour trooper with an integrated backpack, still got it in my cabinet, John taught me to use Sepia washes even back then, and its still a staple of my painting style, I met him a couple of times, and he has to be one of the most down to earth and friendliest guys ever, I really don't think he ever realises how much of an absolute Rockstar he is among the old GW fans.
While the video was great to see most of the colors in action, and the boxes look phenomenal, on a purely personal and selfish basis the greatest news for me was something I didn't know up to this point, that singles will be available later. I paint primarily using speedpaints and washes, with few rare exceptions for highlights (for metallics, like you do!, for example), so I was bummed about having to decide on whether purchase 2 boxes to get my hands on 4 or 5 bottles I'd use or just skip the whole thing. Thanks for having the initiative to ask them about dates and all, that's what I'm saying-it may seem like a passing comment, but it shows you actually care for what your viewers think of in real life, rather than just mindlessly pumping up whoever sent you some freebies. Keep up the good work man, thanks a lot! :D :D :D
You definitely don't want to build up a paint backlog! I settled into about 60 colors total, including washes and basing paints that are my go to colors for any project.
Can't wait to use that new dark metal and the dark grey, especially. Thanks for this video. That Turnbull Turquoise is now another reason to get the set!
After leaving the GW range for good, I've always been a Vallejo user... Later on, I moved to Warcolors that, to me, represent the perfect color range for quality and price currently available. Secret Weapons Miniatures will also have a special place in my heart, of course... However, I've also always included Army Painter colors in my works because I thought they were pretty good mixes even when they had the extra soup everybody hated. Don't know if it's common knowledge but Monument Hobbies (Jason) was using them heavily prior to making his own line so that's a great validation point for AP! Finally people realized the quality and the brand is growing a lot... and you are surely contributing to that growth. It's very good news if you ask me 👍🏻
This set of paints looks fantastic! I'm especially interested in the new metallics. Heavy Metal looks like something I've been wanting for a while, but I've been getting by covering a bright silver with black or dark gray SpeedPaint. And that tip for the unifying wash and how you got his pale face is definitely going into the arsenal.
I'm pretty excited to try these. I was suprised there wasn't anything oil based in it since as you said, that's what comes to mind with so many people doing grimdark 40k paint jobs.
I am a huge fan of Blanche's work, and have become a major Army Painter user. Several of those colors previewed are things I've absolutely been looking for.
It really is amazing how those colors really do show off the style best. I think what is sometimes missing in other people “grim dark” is the pops of bright color JB used. Seems like this set does a great job of representing that.
The Ironclad metallic looks to be the closest Army Painter acrylic I've seen to my all time favorite metallic, Tamiya's dark iron, but hopefully a lot easier to work with. Looking forward to trying it!
This was a great showing of rhese paints, and ai like the simple but effective paintjob 👍 I am really looking forward to these paint and will definately pick most of them.
Glad so many paint companies are embracing dark "realistic" colors. In the past Ive found myself having to mix my Citadel paints with black or gray to desaturate them and steer them away from being bright colors that most mini paints were back in the day (until I found the Vallejo military colors). Im very excited for these sets.
Happy New Year Atom! 🎆🎇✨️ John Blanche Masterclass paints have some good picked colours. I have a couple of The Emperor's art books compiled by him with illustrations from other artists. The on the Space Marines looks spectacular. Enjoy getting some projects completed in 2025!
I’ve ordered mine already , I would have liked to seen a darkish blue speed paint as well as a dark green speed paint. This set is going to be a great addition
Usually don't buy these curated sets, but this one looks great, I have a great army that I think this will look good on and look forward to grabbing this.
These look awesome. Those Speedpaints and the coppery metallics in particular have been missing from the Army Painter revamp lines, and that yellow looks fantastic. This is the first set of "collab" paints I'm actually itching to buy. Thanks for the heads up~
I know absolutely nothing about Warhammer, very little actually, I started watching videos of the lore, some video game gameplays. I played 'Mechanicus' a while ago and this week I finished the last campaign of 'Battlesector' since a stranger on the internet recommended that game to me, saying that it was quite similar to a game. I don't understand how I never came across this universe, these stories, these characters. I saw the animated episode of 'Secret level' and it blew my mind. For reference, I know a lot about Fallout, I played all the games (even 76), I have board games, figures. I'm also a fan and the same thing happens to me with STALKER. I see that the three franchises share the fact of power armor or exoskeletons, the hostile and constantly warring universe, the factions, the military section and so many other factors that interest me and draw my attention a lot. Besides this, I am an illustrator, it started as a kid as just a hobby of drawing characters, and the fact that Warhammer involves art, not only its designs and artistic direction, but also the public, its fans; I find it crazy, it is something enviable, the commitment of each person to build their army, put it together with their hands, paint it in the best way possible and also customize it, there are no two figures alike even if they are inspired by the same thing. It is fucking incredible and I admire you. You who are probably wise teachers (that's why I'm targeting a John Blanche video, I'm looking for you, wise old fans, lol), what works, books or comics would you recommend to me? What games do you think are the best? And if you had to start over with the figures, how would you start? What would you build? I would like you to recommend things to me as if it were a friend you were introducing to the universe, I would be eternally grateful.
One more detail, after having played 'Battlesector', the Blood Angels seem great to me, the red servos are spectacular and the fact of the curse, the thirst for blood and how ruthless they can be. I would love to 3D print a figure of about 15 or 20 cm for my desk and repaint it.
Nice job on the mini, not being an expert I love how you left some of the super fine sculp details just the same color. Gives me the support to do the same on my models!
As someone who bought the entire fanatic range to replace my odd paints here & there, I feel like all of these paints really do fill in voids of the fanatic line. A common complaint I saw & agree with is the lack of actual dark paints. I’ve remedied this via a universal shadow (hello payne’s grey), but so many of these colours fit right into the line. That red was so vibrant & gorgeous, the sunburnt orange was really fantastic, the darker grey was also really needed as the jump from their darkest grey to black was way too much. I’m also impressed with the speedpaints & both washes… great, now I want both!
Heavy metal looks like it could be a decent steel counterpart to the bronzey decayed metal from scale 75. That ones definitely going in the collection.
These sets look great and I’m sold on them, really want to see how the red speed paint might work for some blood angels. I think it must be stated as well that how much people lean into the dark in grimdark doesn’t reflect Blanch’s art. He has lots of vibrant red and yellow set against the darker colors, which you really reflected, love it. Also I remember this mini so I must have been one of the dozens that watched your video 😅
Ohh I love these 2 John Blanche sets from army painter.. when i saw them in a mail they sent me and when watching the video on their channel, I knew right away that i wanted to use them for my 'new year new army' project... Im going for a slaves to darkness army as i havent done that one yet. But still not sure if i am going for the Old World one or AoS or even both.. on a sidenote: about the ads in your videos, i just had an ad in the middle of a sentence at around 09:34 - 09:36 wasn't the first time this happened to me while im watching your videos. Also, Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.
Cool set - I think if I hadn’t seen this style of video and breakdown of what was possible with them I would’ve just skimmed them and not bothered. Might try and grab one now.
These look great. I'll definitely grab the new Speedpaints when they release them separately. I've not tried the Fanatics as im all in a ProAcryl, but i do want to try them at some point.
@@derekgarcia3069 I’m also a big pro acryl guy but I got the half set of fanatics for my son and I really like them. They shake well in the bottle, they apply very well. I love the triad system they use too. It’s super helpful.
I think I'll probably get these sets, I've been working on a warriors of chaos Army for The Old World and I've been taking a lot of colour inspiration from John Blanche's work for it
I'm a huge sucker for decent reds and yellows. However what may be the thing that inspires me to get these sets is the flesh wash. I started collecting warhammer in 1998. Thanks for the excellent review! I was slightly disappointed that you didn't make a "non-John silver" joke when you went to the silver paint, though! ;)
I am really looking forward to these sets. The dark olive was something I was missing in a recent paint job and the red will finally silence the grumbles everyone utters about the "Pure Red". Also good to know that John missed the flesh wash, because so did pretty much everyone else and it was a blind spot in the current range.
I have been searching for strong, dark options for red, green, silver, and grey for a while now because I've been disappointed in the options in the fanatics line, so this is very exciting.
I like John Blanches artwork and atyle a lot. Personally i tend to paint more vibrantly, however, his use of color and light has always been impressive and interesting. I dont see myself picking up any of the yhe paints as iI tend to enjoy a more limited palette and I mix and blend my colors to get the results i want for my paint jobs as that for ke makes the end result feel more cohesive. Just a pointer, despite how they definitely look that way, those are not nunchucks, they are purity seal paper rolled up like a scroll with metal attched to the bottom and top (look at old catholic scrolls or jewish torah scrolls and youll see what u mean. They have wood or metal handles at the end) I thought the same painting old grey knigyt finecast models but figured out it was paper eventually. Sometimes theres even a wax purity seal on them.
The triads are now seven :3 Seriously, this is great news. The army painter range was really weak on very dark colors. I end up having to mix black into a lot of different colors all the time. I mix 1:1 black + deep grey pretty much every time I paint for a proper dark grey. I wonder what is the difference between the old neutral wash (dark tone, I think) and the new grimdark shadow.
I've never been a "paint set" kind of guy. I buy whatever colors seem to be what I'm looking for (across many different brands,) hence my "a lot of everything" selection. These look pretty interesting, though. I think I'll see once they hit the shelves. Thanks for the info!

farscape was such a great show.
I mean I got into the hobby around 2006 and was still a huge fan of his art
Oh man that's awesome
Omfg that would be a dream come true
Super cool story!
I've never really cared much for these sorts of curated paint sets but these ones... I think I need them, really badly.
thats the point of this commercial
These look really interesting. Admittedly they are very much designed for a specific look but some of the colours will be very useful more generally 👍
I really like the look of those colors, That Turquoise is just amazing! I may have to pick them up. Thank you for the heads up!

Very happy to hear that single swill be available
John is an amazing illustrator! As I another a WH guy, you just made me do a deep dive on his work. Thanks😊
Love the Metal Slug shirt.

I, PHYSICALLY, need this.
Sweet paints. Makes me remember the old days. 😊
Excellent as always
I love the humor with “pious gun “
I'm so jealous of how steady your hands are, awesome vid as usual
It’s all about keeping your hands touching each other when you paint, and just using your fingers to move the paintbrush. Thanks for watching!
I am a huge fan of Blanche's work, and have become a major Army Painter user. Several of those colors previewed are things I've absolutely been looking for.
Thanks very much for sharing this overview of the paint set. That turquoise is stellar and I’d love to pick up a bottle when the singles come out
Crazy I have never heard of him before this video. Amazing artist!
I am getting a total Zorn palette from these colors AND then you said it... nice!
Thanks for the review, I like the new sets!
Super excited for these sets! Love it!
These colors are absolutely something I need in my life
When this was teased, I was definitely interested in picking these up. Hope there are more sets like this.
Several of these look promising, particularly the speedpaints and the metallics. Thank you for this preview!
Great paint job! I really enjoy the kitbashing!
Awesome paint set. Thanks for the info and code!
I live the look of that dark turquoise speed paint - have a couple of things in the queue that it could be perfect for
Awesome! I’ve always wanted to paint his Sister of Battle, the iconic one. Sounds like an opportunity. 😊
I will SO be picking those paint sets up.
Can't wait to get those :D thx for sharing!
That looks so good. I wish I was more skilled at picking out colors when I paint a model
It really is amazing how those colors really do show off the style best. I think what is sometimes missing in other people “grim dark” is the pops of bright color JB used. Seems like this set does a great job of representing that.

My goblin brain wants this so bad!
I totally want to use these paints to repaint/finish my 2nd edition 40K Blood Angels army. This was the art and edition that got me into 40k.

There's some nice colors in these sets, I bet they'd be great for Trench Crusade as well.
Thanks for the info! I am very hyped to get those sets. John Blanche is the man 🤘
I'd love to properly dive into the whole Blanchitsu style one day and I think these sets would be great for that.
Those looks really nice ! Might be adding them this summer.
I’ve ordered mine already , I would have liked to seen a darkish blue speed paint as well as a dark green speed paint. This set is going to be a great addition
Usually don't buy these curated sets, but this one looks great, I have a great army that I think this will look good on and look forward to grabbing this.
Very cool. Can't wait.
I'm normally a chaotic painter and paint my minis whatever color I grab first, but I'm tempted by this.

"Depressmentation". I'll have to add that to my quiver for my next team meeting! Happy New Year - those sets look fantastic!
Happy to see this guy again. Love his big F**k all gun.
I am so happy I ordered these sets, cuz now I see that it will be a good investment in return to painting. Ordo Malleus army is waiting!
Nice job on the mini, not being an expert I love how you left some of the super fine sculp details just the same color. Gives me the support to do the same on my models!
You don’t need to make EVERY detail a different color. If we did, GW would have us painting these models forever. Thanks for watching!
These look great. Silly thing to say but these colours are so JB! This is what grimdark looks like to me. Lovely paint job too, lovely kitbash
He’s such a huge influence on my own work!
Some great colors in these sets but that dark turquoise is really nice!!
Great video! Thanks. Also, nice call back to the old Inquisitor model. We never forgot!!! 😜
I love the new fanatic line, a LOT. I would love to see a purple/grey like AK's Tenebrous Grey. Looking forward to owning both these sets.

I love the Turquoise, that's lush

Thanks for the excellent review!

Inquisitor Babby is HILARIOUS lol I broke when I heard that
“It must be a really pious gun” hahahahaha

It'll be nice to change things up. Keeps the hobby interesting
'Turnbull Turquoise' sounds like a tribute to Don Turnbull, early editor of White Dwarf magazine, and Imagine, the TSR UK mag.
Would be cool if you can find that Deamonette on the cover of WD in the 80's miniature, and use them colors on her.
Nice set of colors.
Great video!
Looks great. Just a pointer, despite how they definitely look that way, those are not nunchucks, they are purity seal paper rolled up like a scroll with metal attched to the bottom and top (look at old catholic scrolls or jewish torah scrolls and youll see what u mean. They have wood or metal handles at the end)
I thought the same painting old grey knigyt finecast models but figured out it was paper eventually. Sometimes theres even a wax purity seal on them.
