  • Converting Old Swingset Into A Catio | During our downtime in between trips I decided to make the best use of that time and transform and old, weathers swingset/playhouse into a high quality Catio! The only materials I purchased were the fencing, fencing nails, lumber for the base and some latches/hinges - everything else was either recycled from the existing swingset/playhouse or found around the property (left by previous homeowners).
    Feel free to ask any questions you want concerning technical aspects of this Catio - this is my first 'DIY' video even though it's not a true DIY video because I do not provide exact specs/materials needed for an already-planned-out project. This project was 100% done by 'winging it' every day I worked on it!
    Thank you Bob for letting me use all your equipment, tools and knowledge in support to complete this Catio.

    I want to see a follow up video of the cats enjoying this fabulous Catio

    It's amazing the efforts we go through for our kitties. We built a catio for our kitty too.... and now I'm thinking of expanding it, and adding some high, covered walkways for our little man to get from one catio enclosure to another. I want him to feel like he has freedom, while keeping him protected. He doesn't play well with other kitties, tries to chase wildlife and takes off and hides, so he isn't allowed outside without a catio. My boy was born feral, and he's super hard headed and defiant, but he loves the ability to go out in his catio when he wants. He loves it. I just want him to have more room to move around, an area where he can do a little running, things he can climb up, more high places to sit, etc. Haven't told my husb, yet, that I want to expand the catio. 😂

      Catios are so fun! And you are so right....its amazing the things we do for our beloved pets. This was one of the most fun projects I ever did in my life! Thank you for watching and I hope it gave you some ideas.

    What a beautiful project. Those kitties will enjoy that for years to come. Sweet!! ALL OUT OF RECYCLED MATERIAL. SPECTACULAR!

    Nicely done!! After the cats are done with it, would make a sweet chicken coup too!! (I thought that is what it was at first, lol)

      @TheVoidFill  2 года назад +1

      Funny you mention that, because this WAS being kept around in order to be a chicken coup but we decided to turn it into a Catio instead. And yes, this could be repurposed to be a chicken coup.

      @@TheVoidFill nice! Either way, a prime example on the vast options of repurposing materials. Nicely done!

    I love it!!! I just bought a loft bed (fits full mattress) for $75, chicken wiring for $25, plastic roofing panel for $25 off of OfferUp. I already had wire cutter & stapler to cut and staple the chicken wire and roofing. Cheap & easy!
    Now I just need to add planks/shelves (I have extra wood that I kept not knowing why) carpet, swing beds, plants, boxes, etc to make it homie. I'm not super handy so this was a little bit cheating 😂

    • @TheVoidFill
      @TheVoidFill  5 месяцев назад

      Just go for it! As long as you are safe about it. Protect yourself haha, I'm not sure how 'handy' you are! This was mostly improv every day for me, I did not have a set plan in my mind.

    Turned out great. My only thing is I probably would’ve used smaller wire because I’d be afraid the cats would squeeze through

    • @TheVoidFill
      @TheVoidFill  Год назад +1

      That thought did occur to me and if the cats were small kittens, they probably could have fit. But since these are fully grown I knew they wouldn't be able to.
      Thank you for watching! I hope you liked it.

      I would use smaller gauge also so as to not have a freak accident. It is amazing I love it. When are you going to start work on the runway from the house. Might want to put a piece of carpet up top to grip on. But like I said it is amazing. You will need a couple of lawn chairs to sit with them. I wouldn’t go back inside 😂

    I had considered doing this and after collecting a small fortune worth of wood, I’m starting to regret not looking around for a swing set and doing this…
    Love you kept in the real frustration when things go wrong and actually talked through some of it rather than just speeding through and playing music!

      Thank you! I try to keep my videos on a more realistic level than the typical flashy RUclips video. Truth be told, I built this catio waking up everyday and smoking weed and sort of improvising. Luckily, I had all the wood-working equipment needed to do something like this.

    Love how you used the spools, maybe if you have or ever get sisal rope wrap a spool or maybe or centre post. The kitties can use as a scratching post as well then…..

      That's a really good suggestion! To be honest, I 100% winged this bad boy as well as it was my first time doing something like this. My one regret is not doing more planning in advance, but at the same time it was alot of fun getting up every day not knowing how it will end.

    This is completely amazing! I would have never thought to convert a wooden play set. Big regrets however, I do see some u-pick up give aways from time to time and am going to give this a go. Brilliant idea and your attention to detail was excellent

      Thank you so much for the comment! Yes, I am certainly an amateur when it comes to woodworking/carpentry but I tried my best to make sure it was done right the first time. I don't like cutting corners if I have the resources not to.

    It came out great, but I would have left a few of those upright slats on around the outside for stability and to reinforce the wire! Maybe 2 on each side. Just my thought! God Bless!

    • @TheVoidFill
      @TheVoidFill  6 месяцев назад

      I definitely thought about that, for the reasons you said! But then I thought, I want the cats to have as much possible viewing area as possible and I thought leaving some of those in there would impede their sight.

    I just love Catios!!! I am waiting on a Friend of mine to turn up soon. We are making a frame only pagola that is in front of our loungeroom sliding door, into a Catio!!! YAY! I absolutely love what you did to what was already on the property. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Five stars!!! I'm going to film mine too because I feel very inadequate doing it but I'm going to give it a go👍🏼 for the love of our rescue furbabies and I💜🐈🐈‍⬛💜. Thank you for your time in making the Catio and filming it for us to enjoy and get ideas from. Top job.

    • @TheVoidFill
      @TheVoidFill  Год назад

      Realistically? They haven't gone on it once! The Catio itself is still holding up well I had to redo the 2nd floor door because I made it weak the first time haha

    that wire is weak a dog can go right through it no problem ( I had to patch the hole and reinforce the bottom wire with a second layer of a different type over the top of it )you also need to add boards over the top of where it is nailed on (with as dry as it is here in the "desert" the nails/ staples ) will back out and remember if a cat can fit their head through something they can fit

    • @TheVoidFill
      @TheVoidFill  Год назад +1

      No, a dog is not getting through it no problem. That fencing is so reinforced with the U Nails I doubt I could get it off with a crowbar and pulling as hard as I can.
      The cats cannot fit their heads through it.
      Thank you for the advice on the structural integrity though!

  • @ValArky
    @ValArky 3 месяца назад

    No rocks on the bottom. Kitties like to roll in the dirt.

  • @silkeschumann7261
    @silkeschumann7261 4 дня назад

    The cats would have preferred the boards, so their lookout for prey is a hide away from predators at the same time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
