Being a mature and seasoned 61 year old man and as a modded MK7 GTI owner, I gotta say it's just sad that some young men buy performance cars and drive them beyond their skill level on the public roads. Fortunately this young man did not injure an innocent and walked away from this nasty crash. I enjoy feeling and experiencing the performance that my GTI has to offer, but I do so only in certain conditions and well within the limits of my abilities and within the limits of my beloved GTI. ☮

I own a MK7 and can tell you the stock ride height leaves a lot to be desired on demanding mountain roads with all their weird angles and twists and bends. I lowered mine with the H&R 1.3" drop and it feels like a whole new car on the mountain roads. There is no roll, just stays flat. I can also say if you put a wheel off on these roads, there's so much debris and no shoulder, so you're screwed if you go off too. Glad to see your buddy is good. The car saved him no doubt. RIP to the Rabbit.
If u upgrade your rear sway bar it completely transforms the driving experience in the twistys. Had neuspeed's rear race sway bar on my Mk7 and vwr springs was the best combination in my opinion

The plaid seats with the rabbit tag are one of the main things to acquire that came standard with the rabbit model… From a quick google search “Missing from the Rabbit are a sunroof, automatic climate control and SXM satellite radio, which is not available on any GTI trim level.”

Stock set up, including tires is for comfort city living... not a true canyon carver until you install sway bars, suspension bits, and certainly performance tires. And yes I own a 7.5!
Props to the GTI. I had an unfortunate run after years of clean driving and totaled a mk7 and a mk7.5 a year apart. Bags deployed both times and I walked away unscathed from each incident. They will protect you if they need to. I can attest to that and here is another example.
Insurance company totaled my mk7 with a fender bender that basically ripped the bumper off because this 18yo took an illegal left turn right in front of me. I was going 30mph but all airbags deployed. Rip
Once upon a time, I had a Mk 2 GTI. One day, after work, I followed my coworker home to visit his house. He was in an old early-1980s Mercedes sedan. We got the 270-degree cloverleaf exit curve and he just left me in the dust; just gone-gone. If I'd tried to keep up his speed, the GTI would have lifted the back wheel and spun out. It wasn't even close. Later I bought the cheapest Mercedes (C230 Kompressor sedan) and it easily outperformed the GTI is every respect. Never looked back.
my first car was a handmedown 05 C230 Kompressor and it was fully loaded from factory with the black interior. truly a slept on car. completely stock with sticky 255’s and it handled insanely well. i almost couldn’t believe it.
I had a brand new '08 Rabbit S 2.5 back in the day, I went out the same way on the twisty turnys by my mom's house in Northwest NJ. After I totaled that, I got an '06 GTI MKV w/DSG, so hearing you reving it gave me crazy nostalgia. Props to you for keeping it up and running this long.

That was a beautiful car! Driver is very lucky, as all those airbags did their job really well. This really puts things in perspective, as I realize how careful we all should be.

Not even lying this happened to me in the exact same spot on my bike last week literally I think I see some parts off of his car where my bike landed , it was me and my buddy like you wer doing and we went to the same camp ground area with water first , then left and I crashed and my buddy said the same thing “I would be pissed rn” while I was calm with the recked bike shi so crazy we all live the same life

Just crashed my MK7 Golf R almost two weeks ago, flipped her 3 times as well in some back roads. Those side airbag don't play! Saved my damn life. Glad he's alright.
The ding that the drivers side a pillar took was huge probably a big contributor to letting the driver just get out and walk away. The bang from impact would have scared the shit out of anyone. Car can be replaced but glad you dudes are ok and nobody else was involved.

Fwd and Awd cars have lots of understeer on roads like this, that is a bad thing for those not use to the road. You can over heat the front tires and brakes way faster then you would think. Its best to pull off and do a cool down after hitting it hard.

@@corradokid79 The black GTI got his ESC off. Probably a good guess the blue GTI also got his ESC off. The Mini too! I'm not an expert driver. I drive spirited/vigorously but turning off the ESC on public roads is not wise. If I'm on the track, all Nanny sensor's set to off.

In fact, I don’t think the Cornflower Blue color was released until 2019 as an exclusive for the Rabbit editions. 2020 and on, yes, but they were no longer a Rabbit. I was actually super stoked and sold on the little Rabbit edition nuances 🐇 😄 Either way, Mk7.5’s have been the best GTIs in my opinion. And yes, even better than the Mk8.

Then 2020/21 came along and they said “yep let’s keep it for all trims” I enjoy the little rabbit things too. I went from a 2016 gti SE 6 speed manual to the 2019 rabbit DSG. GTIs are the best car hands down. Better than the mk8 due to the looks and the interior practicality!

I drove my stock 2015 on this same run a couple years ago and it does fine if you respect your limits and those of the car. Some parts of that road are no joke

Don't drive like a DH on public open roads, take it to a track. This guy's ego overtook his driving ability. You are lucky you didn't hurt yourself or anyone else. Slow down and drive to your level of ability (a lot less than you think obviously) and the conditions.
Yeah not a good idea to speed around those corners like that but I must admit I do like driving these kind of roads to test out my AWD system but man just not too fast glad the driver was alright though
This can be fixed tho it aint that bad, looks like it held up pretty good, suspension drive shafts haldex change mby trans and body work will be costy but better than throwing it away. This also a problem with modern cars cause anyone can hop in and think they can control the car but that just lasts to the point where auto system have your back, that guy looks like some IT guy who never really got a hang of driving a raw car and was pushing computer to its limits
Once all the airbags go, I think most commongly the car is totalled, as only that amounts to several thousands. Add to that the body damage, lights, an chassis damage, and that other things that always apper, snd I think here we are looking at a 15.000+ bill easily

Some people think it can only understeer because it’s a FWD car but if you turn in too fast over a wet patch you can lose the rear real quick.

Slow down and drive to your level of ability (a lot less than you think obviously) and the conditions.
Yeah not a good idea to speed around those corners like that but I must admit I do like driving these kind of roads to test out my AWD system but man just not too fast glad the driver was alright though

This can be fixed tho it aint that bad, looks like it held up pretty good, suspension drive shafts haldex change mby trans and body work will be costy but better than throwing it away. This also a problem with modern cars cause anyone can hop in and think they can control the car but that just lasts to the point where auto system have your back, that guy looks like some IT guy who never really got a hang of driving a raw car and was pushing computer to its limits
Once all the airbags go, I think most commongly the car is totalled, as only that amounts to several thousands. Add to that the body damage, lights, an chassis damage, and that other things that always apper, snd I think here we are looking at a 15.000+ bill easily
