I am not going to lie. The graphics are not better but instead they went to a cartoony stile of graphics instead of realistic and it does not do the game justice at all.
Reality the graphics look like War Craft graphics instead of Age of Empires graphics.

I like how, even at this scale, infantry steps aside so that cavalry can get through. That was a major issue in older games.

Was the issue fixed just in AOE4 or also in the definitive edition versions of AOE 1 to 3?
@@ivanvillarruz8412 AOE1 didnt change anything regarding pathfinding. It´s just as bad as it was when it came out
@@matony19 I started playing this last week and it makes it difficult to micro during skirmishes. I plan to go through all AEOE games so meaning I have to bear wtih this up to the 3rd one.

Man when I was a kid in the old Microsoft xp I remember sending soldiers out and the handful ones who made it back after a battle were promoted to special forces 😂😂 there’s gotta be a system when you can level infantry individuals into classes like assassins, commanders ect. I would love it 😍
yes the command and conquer games did a star rating system i like the idea of historical heroes that can add skill to the units

It's always a cool feeling to have actual veteran soldiers that gain experience each battle
I believe the Sid Meyer's Civilization games had that as a feature.
They'd become the leaders of my new battalions. Ngl I still play it now
@@ambassadorbarak2884 Kind reminds me of Advance Wars' unit level system, although in that game they would have to win battles and typically take losses, you could resupply with fresh troops and they would keep their experience if more than half survived. Just neat little things like that not only make a gameplay difference, but it's more immersive and gives a level of attachment to certain units.
And as Hingle mentioned, TW's system is what makes more it fun for me to do the whole campaign as opposed to just being a battle sim, because I concurrently trained and led those units through multiple battles and feel a certain level of obligation for their upkeep to a point. Being able to beat the odds with an understrength, elite unit used strategically is infinitely more rewarding and immersive for me on all levels, makes it feel less like bashing a bunch of toy soldiers together (which is also completely fine and fun)

I prefer the originals, but age of empires 4 is great for trying out war strategies due to the enhanced terrain and building system.
micro managing in this game is also better then the previous ones

What I really like about AOE 4 is its sound designs
i like how at 6:08, Green was still happy with the idea of breaking down the walls. Then the wall came down and the blue carvery swamped out, Green was like "sorry, wrong address..." and retreated...
Loved aoe as a kid I use to spend my time thinking about battle strategies, nostalgia sure hits.
I used to suck so bad at this as a kid, but the noises they made and the sound effects stuck with me, it felts like magic
Placing your archers on walls will increase their firing range
So agreed but limited number is a downside
Remember, switching to your sidearm crossbow is faster than reloading.
@@kristiadihartanto2623 Except the other archers not on the wall will continue to fire as they are now, so how is there actually a downside?
ikr ?! seeing all those archers NOT being on walls is almost physically hurting me
tho i suppose it does make them more vulnerable to siege (especially trebs)

the only thing i would have done differently is have cannons destroying the walls from a safe range and knights and spear men to protect then when the walls are down go all in with man oh wars spearman and knights

To be fair... hundreds of resouces and who knows what IA... this is the typical turtle skimirst game... most probably the game never was ended or on certain point one single IA got 70%+ of control of the map.

Honestly doesnt need much ; you can also set geometry down to minimum and max textures and the game looks great

I'm using RTX 2060 super 8gb with Ryzen 7 3700X 8 core processor and 32 GB i can play with ultra. It's definitely smooth with my pc. I finish all of mission with game pass and than, i just uninstalled last few hours. I use 3 days for playing, 7hrs for a day. I didn't use a trainer or cheat.

This is really unrealisitc. IRL, you would never open the gate during a siege. Even if you could kill them faster if you massively outnumber then, it makes no sense to send out soldiers to die when your archers could easily drive them away.

Playing with infinite resources or instant creation is a lot of fun. I've won some matches like this, but with the default mode for game resources.

Im guessing and hoping they loosen the pop cap at some point. Apart from the campaign, which is great, they've been mainly catering to the competitive scene, even tho it didn't seem like it the first weeks after launch. However the game has potential to be a great city builder and as this video show it could also be a great total war like game.
Why do they put population cap on this type of games will always be beyond me... There is no worse thing in this type of games then pop cap and literally every single one has it

Ancestors Legacy has the best combat mechanics I have seen in any strategy game. I was kind of hoping some of that would be adopted in the new AOE. but I never get what I want.

I hate the direction they took with this game. I wanted epic battles with 5000 units, akin to total war battles, instead, we got AoE3 rehashed with nicer graphics and in the middle age.

I mentioned this as well during the trial and people said it was for the sake of thr competitive scene. I really hope they add custom maps soon.
@@Joek9100 Which is correct, unlimited population is pretty bad balance-wise for competitive play. It'd basically reduce tournaments to who can spam the most crap.
Having said that, I'd like them to give custom settings for people who do want to play with different population caps. I know it's something a lot of people would like, even though I wouldn't use it myself.
@@Sjoerd1993 I'm not asking for it to be unlimited, just have a bigger pop cap like 500, fights and armies in 200 pop cap look miniature which is off putting, and balance the game based on that, having it optional sucks imo meaning less Players of lower skill are who will be playing it and no one else. but still, would be better than nothing.
I can see essence of Company of Heros in this game...especially the way the Minimap behaves

I was expecting AOE4 set in the years that followed AOE3, like the Industrial Revolution and the World Wars. But we go back to Medieval times. No matter, RTS games are best when set in ancient times.

for some reasons i find age of empire 2 most entertaining out of all editions and the definitive edition just made is much better for me then just because i played AOE II too much or maybe i am not aware of the mechanics of AOE III or IV.just my point of view:)

It’s the best one for sure …. No question. You can tell they enjoyed making that much the most by all the extra features it had like the silly cheat codes

The buildings just seem wrong in this game. They look like Medieval Times, foam and concrete versions of actual buildings that would pair better with a parking lot than in an organic, living town. Really bizarre choice by the developers.

computer is pretty stupid going back and forth in the front of the gates losing unit, there never was a proper attack with all units moving in one direction

1. I'd have placed Catapults and Canons on the Ridges.
2. Use Long Bow 🏹 Archers instead.
3. Sent Out the Horsemen Earlier, backed by the Archers.
Love this game but 86 GB to install it's just crazy. Why is every game so huge these days? Graphics? Nothing special for what reason? Just to force us to buy new hardware to store the games? It's quite but when I find a game with less than 30 GB I'm just happy.
What is a game today played for fun was how people lived years back!!
After having all 4 versions my favorite is still the first AOE DE which I have played over 100s of hours and still play the classic.
Looks very similar to AOE3, lack of new things like put soldiers on the wall, soldiers look the same, they could put in like some unit upgrade, like diablo, weapon upgrade etc, or like horses with chariots and people inside, or villagers could do more things, with different kind of tools, like axes, saw etc so long time has passed since AOE3 but no new things or renovation of age of empires, especially when compare hardware capabilities then and now, overall graphics are not that impressive.
If I watched that video for 20 years ago, I liked so much... AOE's movements and strategies are so old fashion and doesn't any sense
