Batter up isn't a bad song on its own, it's just a bad song for Baemon. I could imagine Blackpink singing this as a B-side or a collab/ad/soundtrack. But it just doesn't do well as a debut song for a highly anticipated group, and this particular flavor of badass concept doesn't fit Babymonster at all because, well, it's cringe af when a 14 year old who's literally just debuted acts like this. Blackpink were all adults during their debut and it was one of the reasons why that concept worked for them from the beginning. Not to mention all 4 BP girls have the it factor, from the first MV it's easy to tell each of their personalities, their style, even facial features are strikingly different. It's one of the reasons why it's so easy to dive into that Blackpink rabbit hole and why many non-kpop fans like Blackpink and can easily tell them apart. It's like "yeah, it's Lisa, the fun unpredictable one, and that's Jisoo, the elegant beauty". That's what Babymonster lacked in Batter up. Their styling really isn't helping either. It might have been better if Ahyeon was there, she'd probably go viral, and the group would start around her before the others develop their style, similar to Ive and Wonyoung. But right now... it's a mess.
Debuts are what puts groups on the map, it get their name out and shows the public what to expect from a group if you look at other debuts like Twice, Aespa, TXT, BTS etc. all their debuts showcased what music they would be producing (it’s not till well into their years that they may change their sound) so people saying just wait for the next one is why it’s a problem. If groups are figuring out what their sound is after their debut it’s poorly managed; this debut was disappointing and it’s the majority that are voicing this not just a few.
They didn't even have a public appearance or press conference when they debuted the group like they just released the digital single with mv then boom hiatus.I actually was disappointed with the song but I'm vibin with it now like the dance performance was so satisfying.

2ne1 is the og blueprint, so YG keeps making a reprint of the "badass/swag" and it obvious with the beat, style and strong choreo. Their girlgroup concept won't stay relevant because people will get bored and forget them. Look at newjeans/gidle, for example, they keep changing their concepts, which makes people thrilled about what their next concept might be.
What about BP? They always had girl crush and they became big with it. Switching from style to style will only make you forgettable. You need your own blue print !!

I wish they had taken the Kiss of Life route and actually showed us WHY we should think they’re badass in their MV. On top of that Kiss of Life showed the group taking on school bullies, harassment from older men, things that teenage girls and older women alike have to deal with. Totally agree with the forced concept part. Also their debut was so sudden. After months of delays, they debuted out of no where. And now it’s like they’ve stopped promotions all together? It’s so bizarre. Other groups b-sides get more promotions than this
they're trying the same trick they did with blackpink: giving almost nothing to fans and public in hopes of making us curious and wanting more... but this is where they got it wrong: blackpink debuted super strong, with good music (whistle was amazing and SUPER different.. something yg stopped doing) and they had jennie that already had a fanbase, they had lisa that back then was a different face in kpop world compared to today. rose and jisoo gained more popularit as the years when by. they don't have any of that with babymonster. the most popular member is out and the music sucks... theres nothing to wait for after that debut
I think the reason of the postponement is Ahyeon's hiatus. Everything was prepared, including debut album etc., but because of health issues Ahyeon can't perform and take part in any projects right now. YG knew that they postponed the debut tooooo many times. If they did it again, they will lose a lot of babymonster's new fans and of course- money. So they made 6 members debut with a backup song from the YG library and we need to wait for a proper one in the future.
I'm thankful to have zero knowledge of BABYMONSTER prior to listening to their debut song. As the song and their style was to my liking, I enjoyed it greatly and become a fan. My conclusion here therefore is that hyper-expectations can become the culprit of disappointment. I don't care the manner how they were formed (or still forming), I am having a blast with them and my joy is complete.

YG groups have comebacks every 2 years at the lastest. That's my only concern here. I agree that YG should’ve had a much better concept for babymonster showcasing their abilities . But we should look forward to other songs before making statements about whether the group is actually successful or not . YG seriously needs to work on their promotions if they want the gg to succeed. Let’s also not ignore the immense pressure on girls. No matter how you hate Tedd, yall can't deny that he's indeed a very talented producer. Sure, he has a tendency to recycle stuff, his songwriting is also not the best and he can be stagnant at times but the guy knows how to make hits. for the record, I'm a fan of 2nd gen (2ne1) and have been looking forward to baemon since they've said in an announcement that baemon would debut with a strong hiphop concept but this really is not it. I hoped that before they debuted, the company didn't push their hip-hop agenda to these girls. I hoped that they would've tried to find the voice color of these girls first or start with a soft concept first then eventually transition to girl crush when they are READY for the stronger concepts. Not saying they can't do the bad ass but their age really shows in the mv and the way they present themselves. idk but the hiphop side seems forced to them except for the rappers. Or they could've released 2 title tracks like what they did with BP to show another side of these girls. I really feel bad for these girls. I was so excited for this group the amount of times I danced and listened to babymonsters 2NE1 remix, and after hearing the song I was like what is this, the only reason why I keep listening to batter up atm is because I’ve found this version of AI blackpink singing Batter up and trust me Batter up sounds more suited to BP, hopefully we can see Babymonsters vocal’s showcased in future songs which may take years knowing YG

for me yg is lost from an agency that is number 2 on the korean market (after SM) they fell outside the top 5. as a Blackjack and former Blink i need to say that they screwed up the brand they had created. 1. they are no longer creative and fashionable, their music has been the same for 7 years. They always said about quality but they dont have it. 2. They constantly delay everything, thinking that they are not threatened by competition. Wake up ! you are not the only music label in Korea and no one will wait years for a song or album. 3. is a music label that does not release music and they don't promote groups enough...everywere . 4. you managed to promote BlackPink with minimal involvement. I think YG was waiting until negotiations with BP were over before debuting BM. Unfortunately, the negotiations lasted longer than expected and didn't turn out as they wanted. YG probably switched BM's original concept last minute to fill in the BP missing piece. If so, it was definitely the wrong move and can hopefully be fixed/revamped with their next release.

IMO, YG rushed the debut because they weren't ready. Like you said in the video, batter up gonna act like a pre-debut song and they will probably have their 'debut song" with Aeyeon when she ready. Let's be honest, the song wasnt that bad (7/10). My only problems and concerns is that 1- The song wasnt heavy centered vocals (prob gonna wait for the 'real debut" with Aeyeon and 2- The absence of any promotion and appearance on shows.

YG just keeps recycling 2NE1's concept. It worked with Blackpink, so I guess he figured he'd just do the same thing again. But no. YG stans have been sick of it, and all the new people Blackpink brought in don't want YG giving their new girl group what sounds like a reworked Blackpink b-side. For all the songs YG claims to have commissioned for Baby Monster, it doesn't seem like he used any of them. As usual, these companies are good at training people, but when it comes to actual group management, they tend to suck. The talent of the members can carry the group for a big label like YG, but smaller labels have so much wasted potential all the time. So many talented groups disband every year due to lack of exposure and poor management decisions. Luck also plays a huge role in all this. Being part of a huge label like YG removes the luck aspect. You're pretty much guaranteed success to some extent. But for their numbers to be like this even with all those advantages is not a good sign.

I have zero interest in this group. First of all, they're too young, the same reason I don't have an interest in NewJeans. I am against people under the age of 16 debuting. Second of all, I'm pretty tired of YG concepts in general. Babymonster is basically female Treasure + Blackpink. Nothing creative about their concept or music, just rehashed YG. Maybe in a few years I'll check them out again but definitely won't be following them now.

Whatever you might think of JYP, at least they know how to do a survival show and succesful debut. Have the timing of the broadcast line up so that the girls can release their first pre-debut song right after the survival show final. Get a few more pre-debut songs ready and keep fans engaged with behind the scenes videos. This gives the company time to work on a big debut off screen, while the audience gets content to keep them interested. The formula is right there, so I don't understand why YG dropped the ball this hard with Babymonster.
Lots of people hated "O.O", but at least that song (and its video) had genuine effort put into it. "Batter Up" just seems like a retread of stuff that already worked for YG in the past. I didn't feel much heart in it.

The market is so competitive right now all the top groups had great debuts. NWJNS, Le sserafim these groups have only had 2-3 comebacks and the sales they are making are incredible so its not "too early" especially for a big4 company YG has really fallen behind. Batter up isn't a bad song on its own, it's just a bad song for Baemon. I could imagine Blackpink singing this as a B-side or a collab/ad/soundtrack. But it just doesn't do well as a debut song for a highly anticipated group, and this particular flavor of badass concept doesn't fit Babymonster at all because, well, it's cringe af when a 14 year old who's literally just debuted acts like this. Blackpink were all adults during their debut and it was one of the reasons why that concept worked for them from the beginning. Not to mention all 4 BP girls have the it factor, from the first MV it's easy to tell each of their personalities, their style, even facial features are strikingly different. It's one of the reasons why it's so easy to dive into that Blackpink rabbit hole and why many non-kpop fans like Blackpink and can easily tell them apart. It's like "yeah, it's Lisa, the fun unpredictable one, and that's Jisoo, the elegant beauty". That's what Babymonster lacked in Batter up. Their styling really isn't helping either. It might have been better if Ahyeon was there, she'd probably go viral, and the group would start around her before the others develop their style, similar to Ive and Wonyoung. But right now... it's a mess.

Debuts are what puts groups on the map, it get their name out and shows the public what to expect from a group if you look at other debuts like Twice, Aespa, TXT, BTS etc. all their debuts showcased what music they would be producing (it’s not till well into their years that they may change their sound) so people saying just wait for the next one is why it’s a problem. If groups are figuring out what their sound is after their debut it’s poorly managed; this debut was disappointing and it’s the majority that are voicing this not just a few.
They didn't even have a public appearance or press conference when they debuted the group like they just released the digital single with mv then boom hiatus.I actually was disappointed with the song but I'm vibin with it now like the dance performance was so satisfying.

they're trying the same trick they did with blackpink: giving almost nothing to fans and public in hopes of making us curious and wanting more... but this is where they got it wrong: blackpink debuted super strong, with good music (whistle was amazing and SUPER different.. something yg stopped doing) and they had jennie that already had a fanbase, they had lisa that back then was a different face in kpop world compared to today. rose and jisoo gained more popularit as the years when by. they don't have any of that with babymonster. the most popular member is out and the music sucks... theres nothing to wait for after that debut

I think the reason of the postponement is Ahyeon's hiatus. Everything was prepared, including debut album etc., but because of health issues Ahyeon can't perform and take part in any projects right now. YG knew that they postponed the debut tooooo many times. If they did it again, they will lose a lot of babymonster's new fans and of course- money. So they made 6 members debut with a backup song from the YG library and we need to wait for a proper one in the future.

My conclusion here therefore is that hyper-expectations can become the culprit of disappointment. for the record, I'm a fan of 2nd gen (2ne1) and have been looking forward to baemon since they've said in an announcement that baemon would debut with a strong hiphop concept but this really is not it. I hoped that before they debuted, the company didn't push their hip-hop agenda to these girls. I hoped that they would've tried to find the voice color of these girls first or start with a soft concept first then eventually transition to girl crush when they are READY for the stronger concepts. Not saying they can't do the bad ass but their age really shows in the mv and the way they present themselves. idk but the hiphop side seems forced to them except for the rappers. Or they could've released 2 title tracks like what they did with BP to show another side of these girls. I really feel bad for these girls. YGE should really stop relying on their traditional techniques and try to keep up with the market trends. For a company who is a pioneer of girlcrush in kpop, YGE is lacking right now.

I think YG was waiting until negotiations with BP were over before debuting BM. Unfortunately, the negotiations lasted longer than expected and didn't turn out as they wanted. YG probably switched BM's original concept last minute to fill in the BP missing piece. If so, it was definitely the wrong move and can hopefully be fixed/revamped with their next release.

IMO, YG rushed the debut because they weren't ready. Like you said in the video, batter up gonna act like a pre-debut song and they will probably have their 'debut song" with Aeyeon when she ready. My only problems and concerns is that 1- The song wasnt heavy centered vocals (prob gonna wait for the 'real debut" with Aeyeon and 2- The absence of any promotion and appearance on shows.

YG just keeps recycling 2NE1's concept. It worked with Blackpink, so I guess he figured he'd just do the same thing again. But no. YG stans have been sick of it, and all the new people Blackpink brought in don't want YG giving their new girl group what sounds like a reworked Blackpink b-side. For all the songs YG claims to have commissioned for Baby Monster, it doesn't seem like he used any of them.
As usual, these companies are good at training people, but when it comes to actual group management, they tend to suck. The talent of the members can carry the group for a big label like YG, but smaller labels have so much wasted potential all the time. So many talented groups disband every year due to lack of exposure and poor management decisions. Luck also plays a huge role in all this. Being part of a huge label like YG removes the luck aspect. You're pretty much guaranteed success to some extent. But for their numbers to be like this even with all those advantages is not a good sign.

I have zero interest in this group. First of all, they're too young, the same reason I don't have an interest in NewJeans. I am against people under the age of 16 debuting. Second of all, I'm pretty tired of YG concepts in general. Babymonster is basically female Treasure + Blackpink. Nothing creative about their concept or music, just rehashed YG. Maybe in a few years I'll check them out again but definitely won't be following them now.

YG is going down and taking their artists with them. Music has only been their side business for the last couple of years, if they don't know what to do with a group they tell them to go on tour. The company needs a total reset with competent heads asap. Too bad, they used to have the coolest idols now they're famous for criminals and troublemakers.
Honestly the song was pretty good in my opinion I just hate how its the same yge sound. I wish they could switch it up someday. I hope this criticism/hate the song is getting, yge will get the memo and yge will stop giving them the same old yge songs.
Whatever you might think of JYP, at least they know how to do a survival show and succesful debut. Have the timing of the broadcast line up so that the girls can release their first pre-debut song right after the survival show final. Get a few more pre-debut songs ready and keep fans engaged with behind the scenes videos. This gives the company time to work on a big debut off screen, while the audience gets content to keep them interested. The formula is right there, so I don't understand why YG dropped the ball this hard with Babymonster.
Lots of people hated "O.O", but at least that song (and its video) had genuine effort put into it.
"Batter Up" just seems like a retread of stuff that already worked for YG in the past. I didn't feel much heart in it.

They did also not present them like they did with Blackpink. Like a showcase introducing the members. Maybe because they introduced them via RUclips. But the monster debut this was supposed to be is obviously not this. It must be that they have something big planned for beginning of 2024 when (if) Ahyeon returns. That would explain everything

The market is so competitive right now all the top groups had great debuts. NWJNS, Le sserafim these groups have only had 2-3 comebacks and the sales they are making are incredible so its not "too early" especially for a big4 company YG has really fallen behind. Trends go by so quick and there is tons of new music released each month

That's half the period with no radio appearances and minimal schedules for a group debut...a time when it's most important to build a fanbase and grab listeners.

The companies try new genres on kpop and people expect new stuff from new group (refreshing or different).Bm's style is same with previous yg groups. i have supported yg for many years, 2ne1/big bang/blackpink, but im just not feeling this one. i feel bad for these girls. hope they can forget this one and come up with a better track next time.

'wasted potential' isn't something you say to rookies who debuted a week ago, it's said about idols who were in the industry for years yet didn't get enough attention.
When Blackpink Ai cover of the song sounds better, it confirms how Baemon was planned to be just Blackpink 2.0
Baemon girls have different strength from their senior, YG should give them the material that display those strength.
