I’ll give you a short summary of what it’s like to have a Genie. Ours met us at the health check station and immediately took us on board, bypassing the long line of passengers working their way to the gang plank. Once on board the next hurdle was getting to our deck (17) via the crowded elevators. The Genie summoned an empty elevator within seconds and once we stepped in before other passengers could enter. Then, straight to deck 17. She took us to the star loft suite and gave us a full tour of the place. Finally she went over our dining and entertainment itinerary she developed). So far so good. Then because the Suite Lounge and Coastal Kitchen was only a few steps away, she walked us down and introduced us to the staff. This came in handy later when we asked for a drink or whatever. Later on we went to dinner and she was waiting there to escort us to our table. This became a theme. Whatever was on the itinerary she would escort us to our seats. At first we were uncomfortable with this as I just retired from a 40 year career in tech. I cut my own grass, fix the house when things go wrong so… average joe. By the third day though I realized we are her job and she truly wants to make everything the best it can be. You get to know them very well. I felt like she was part of the family by then. After that my discomfort was gone. She was not at our elbow all the time but would check in from time to time by phone or if you were in a lounge or bar, she’d stop by to say hi (and talked to the bar manager). When we disembarked, our she met us at the time we wanted to leave. Again, the elevator trick straight down to the gangway deck and a shortcut through the I-95 and we were on the gangplank. Our luggage was waiting the second we got to the terminal with a bell boy. Our Genie walked with us all the way to customs and bypassed the lines again. Said goodbye and we left feeling a bit sad. Time from walking out of our suite door through customs was less than 10 minutes. There’s more to working with our Genie but this is a taste of what it was like. A special shoutout to the housekeeper staff. On a whole new level as well. Hope this helps.

My wife and I had a Royal Suite (Star Class) on the Oasis of the Sea. Our Royal Genie was amazing. There were so many extra benefits. I really didn't take full advantage of it. We were definitely treated like royalty everywhere on the ship. People look at us like: "Why are they getting so many special treatments?" I got the Star Class as a Master level casino royal player. I guess they were trying to give me some perks for all the dollars I lost at the baccarat tables.

Context matters. We paid over $3000 for two people on the Oasis of the Seas a few years back(interior room to boot) and it was awful. The ship was way over crowded and generally a miserable experience. $12k for four people with this type of service seems much more reasonable. Cruises can be fun, but the ship and the crew can make a huge difference. We sailed on a Princess cruise a few years later and though it was a smaller ship the trip was much more enjoyable. The staff was the big difference. The crew on Princess was 10x nicer than RC.

The issue I have with the Oasis class ships with the mega cabins on deck 17 is that most of them overlook the sports deck and not the ocean. I really do not want to be looking over a basketball court from my cabin.
For me, the "Crown Loft" suites on 17 are perfect for two people. You get two full bathrooms, and a real nice two story cabin. You do not get the Genie, but I can do those things myself. You have to pay for the drink package and specialty dining, but I am diamond, so I get drinks for free at bars, and if I want anything else I can go to the suite lounge. I got the specialty dining package for $179 a person on my last Harmony of the Seas cruise. So I paid significantly less than it would have cost for the higher cabin and has a great ocean side balcony on the port side of the ship.

Exactly! I really don't want somebody doing all those things for me. I need to be doing something besides eating and watching TV. Maybe for a first-time cruiser that's a huge help, but being for the 10th time on the same ship, how many times I can be at the same show? How many times you can do the same activities? Going through routine procedures, like booking my own things to do, or even wait in line to get on or off the ship while meeting and conversing with other people is part of the fun by now....

Finally a smart comment on this thread. What Matt didn't mention is that you get many of the same amenities in a regular suite that you do in a Star Class suite. On the Oasis class ships you can live the entire week on deck 17 (Lofts). Enjoy your suite / balcony and just walk down the private hall throughout the day to the Coastal Kitchen for unlimited drinks / food. No need to ever have to use the jam packed buffet or dining rooms.

We had a 2 bedroom aqua theater suite Oct 2021 Symphony of the Seas. Hot and sticky in Miami embarkation day with really long lines, but we were whisked inside and taken straight to our room Our genie, Sunil D’Souza was wonderful. He was so funny because we weren’t demanding and didn’t know what to ask for. He said we were the most undemanding guests he ever had. He kept asking us what we wanted him to do for us. He gave us the most generous and lovely gifts at the end of the cruise too. My hubs didn’t ever take advantage of head of line privileges for stuff like slides and such, (I’m handicapped and can’t participate in any of the physical activities) and we didn’t use a lot of the perks we were entitled to use. You shouldn't be able to tip a Geinie, and they should be forced to reject tips. They should be compensated fairly. As much as a dang Star Class cost, Royal could easily afford to pay Genie a base wage they are happy with.

I didn't get the food i ordered. It might have been just a bad day for them but it was our first time eating there so it made a lasting impression. We ate at main dining after that and had an amazing time there. On a positive side we did mention our experience to our main dining waiter and 5 minutes later the coastal kitchen manager was at our table seeing what he could do to make up for the bad experience.

Not sure if this is true for all cruise lines but I took a behind the scenes tour and the engine room was off limits. We toured the control room that was attached but the tour guide told us the engine room was too hazardous and the company would not allow passengers inside. I will say even without the engine room, the tour was amazing. The bridge, galleys, food storage, backstage, crew quarters, all of it was awesome. What astounded me was that for all you can access as a passenger, you are actually seeing about half of the ship. Take the tour...you won't regret it.

I asked my Genie about finding us a fishing trip when our schedule changed and we ended up with a full day in Nassau.....within 5 hours he had found a half day deep sea fishing charter for me and my 3 guests for basically the next day. It was so disappointing when my son got really sea sick that night and we ended up not being able to go fishing because of it....but it is something I will remember for next time!

Just booked my first star class trip for a family cruise in The Royal Loft on Anthem. Came on here to get first hand accounts from others who have done it to get an idea what the experience is like. I appreciate the comments from folks who have actually done it and even those from people who are looking forward to doing it or just have it on their bucket list. What I can't understand are the negative comments from people who have never done it and have no interest in doing it. Why are you even here if this is not your thing. And what compels you to comment on something you have no interest in. I don't go on sports memorabilia or car enthusiasts comment sections, things I have no interest in, and comment on how you can better spend your money on a fancy room on a cruise ship with awesome perks. What floats my boat (pun intended) may not float yours. Good on you, do your thing, enjoy it and live your best life. Somewhere along the line people got it into their heads that if it's right or wrong for them it should be right or wrong for everyone else. What a boring life that would be. Tell you what, don't spend my money and I won't spend yours. You wanna spend a month in one place for half the money or less than I spend on a 7 day cruise...cool do it. Sounds awesome...for you. Hope you have an amazing time. For me a couple days at sea with a few stops at different places, with a dedicated lounge and restaurant, butler service and all the amenities I could ask for...that's MY happy place. At the end of the day, when talking about vacations, we are not really paying for the thing but rather the memories and feelings we are left with. You don't get to have an opinion on what makes me happy any more than you want me to have an opinion on what makes you happy. Or, I guess you do get to have an opinion, just know nobody cares but you.

13k isn’t bad for a week long vacation with a personalized service. I usually pay that much for a week long trip to Disney world where I stand in line for two hours to watch my kids ooh and ahh on some decades old ride.

We had the Royal Loft Suite on Odyssey of the seas - There is not enough room to write how great our Genie Was, (Marla Rivera) - WE LOVE HER. She actually felt bad that we did not ask more of her - It is truly worth every penny to have a room of that caliber and the services of these outstanding people. It's like you have the run of the ship. We did everything we wanted to do and she organized it all - It was truly an experience of a lifetime. We have had Royal suites many times on many various RCCL ships but this is an experience you will never forget. You owe it to yourself to give it a shot.

Thanks for the nice tight review, Matt! Nice explanation. I do think there’s quite a bit of value there by having the drinks and specialty dining already included. So yes, it’s definitely an additional up charge but not as much as it might appear (depending on sailing dates, pricing, ship, etc.)

This was a well done video with a lot of useful information. Not sure how I'd feel getting so much attention all the time, because I'm a very private person, but I believe they take that into account for your experience on board.

  • @jacksellers4412

It would be very nice to have a personal genie.
There are a lot of pluses that come with this experience.
Was that a hot tub on the private balcony?
I know my family would love this holiday but I just couldn’t justify it knowing I could give this money towards my children. Saying that… it may be worth it to others pending there situation in life.
I personally like getting up real early and watch what goes on around the ship while people are sleeping.
It’s also fun to watch other passengers do crazy things. My wife and I are taking our granddaughter cruising in March. I usually have competitions with her playing miniature golf or water slide racing.
I believe Mariner of the Seas has laser tag so winner is last one standing ( she is a fast, small target).
I guess what I am trying to say is no matter if it’s a big suit or small cabin… you make your own memorable time onboard.

We really enjoyed our star class experiences. As far as is it worth it? That Varies with each person. To us it is. The thing I have struggled with lately is comparing it to a private yacht charter. 20 k a week, sometimes more can get you a very nice yacht to charter and explore whatever destination you want.

    • @codedestroy680
      @codedestroy680 2 года назад

My family has considered chartering a yacht for a week instead of a week cruise. The main issue is on royal you have top notch entertainment between the comedy, the food, all the shows they put on, the casino, and shopping all in one place. On top of all that the boat is taking you to destinations. Yeah it would be nice to be on a yacht to pick when and where we go places but the down time would be boring.

I have the money to sail Star class. I have gone on many cruises and always get a balcony room facing the ocean. Good price point for what you get. I think the cost for the Star class 7-8 night cruise is too expensive. You spend most of your time outside of the room doing activities, excursions, dining, shows etc. Going on Allure this month (April 22) and have 2 balcony ocean cabins. Paid 4k. IMO that is a good value for a 8 night eastern caribbean cruise.

I wonder how it compares to Celebrity, Aqua or Retreat since both are Royal Carribean? I just cruised Celebrity and it was amazing. I would cruise Celebrity and upgrade from Veranda to Conceierge or Acqua Class. I don't know that I would go to Retreat so that means I would not go to Star Class on Royal Carribean unless my family wants it and it pitching in on paying for the cost of that suite. I'm good with a balcony on any cruise ship or an ocean view. As long as I'm cruising I'm good.
