Mark Anthony Graham (May 17, 1973 in Gordon Town, Jamaica - September 4, 2006 in Panjwaii, Afghanistan) was a Canadian Olympic athlete and soldier who died while participating in Operation Medusa during the NATO mission in Afghanistan.
Graham grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, lived in Calgary, Alberta and had been stationed at CFB Petawawa in Ontario. He attended Chedoke Middle School and then Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School in Hamilton, then the University of Nebraska and later Kent State in Ohio on track-and-field scholarships.
On September 4, 2006 Graham was killed in a friendly fire incident when two USAF A-10 Thunderbolts fired on his platoon, having mistaken them for Taliban insurgents.

If only our government spent more than 0.9% of the GDP on national defense, we'd be even better than we already are. We should be spending 2-3% easy, which is more comparable to all of the most advanced militaries in the world. We should be spending more on the navy seeing as we have a massive coast. Currently, we rely on the US for naval support.

    • @areuswhite9670

Cs go giveaway Guy - Why not? It's good for economy, it's good for world influence, It's good for international dealings, good for international relations, and it makes us more independent as a country. Why wait for war when we can be ready always? I live near a military base, and when we watch our navy ships go by it's utterly embarrassing. They are rusted and dated, and can barely move. Even Australia, our twin colonial brother spends 2%, and has a more prestigious and respected military. We're the second largest country on earth and we can't even defend it currently... We have to rely on big brother USA, and that means we owe them when it comes to trade deals. We have the money.. We can spend 2% of our income to protect our country. Hell, I'm sure you spend more than that for house insurance, and medical coverage, surely. Our country state should do the same.

From Captain J.B. Paulin in a speech given at the Empire Club of Canada, Toronto, Ontario, on May 23, 1918.
They are called “The storm troops of the British Empire” by the Kaiser, and his own “storm troops” are the biggest men of his various divisions; and when he speaks of the Canadians as being the “storm troops,” it means that in his estimation, they are the best troops of the British Empire.

Just read an article where Canada cannot get enough people to enlist. Apparently they do not treat their service people right. Poor barracks and housing for military families. Obsolete equipment and lack of opportunities for advancement. I guess the Canadian gov. doesn't put a priority on their Armed Services which is a shame. They should treat their people right.

@patlap1990 Don't get your hopes up on that one any time soon. Task Force 1-11 is the final Battle Group going to Afghanistan. They left two days ago. As of December our operations in Afghanistan are going to be training only, and for that you need Mod 6; which gets you your Master Corporal rank. There are still plenty of other opportunities, just let them know when you get to your unit what courses you want to take, and don't turn down any that they offer, even if it is not one you wanted.

    • @user-yj2fy1nk1i
      @user-yj2fy1nk1i 8 лет назад

Officer Cadets at RMC do not skip ranks simply because of their education. The only trades in the Forces that are commissioned at the rank of Captain or Lt(N) from the outset are trades that require professional qualifications outside of the Forces e.g. Medical Officers (must already be qualified physicians before enrollment), Legal Officers (must already be qualified lawyers before enrollment) etc. None of these trades are available as direct enrollment following ROTP at RMC. RMC graduates are promoted from the rank of Officer Cadet to Lieutenant upon graduation. Any deviation from this would be incredibly rare. Back up your story about becoming a captain after only four years at RMC, with a link to an official DND source, and I will retract my post. ,

@andytechnodude honestly, you DON'T want to be a sniper. When you are done with your career in the military you want some sort of skill that will help you later on in life. Being a sniper takes years upon years of dedicated training. It's not as simple as point and shoot, there is weather, distance, target movement etc. but for every 10,000 troops deployed there are roughly 25-100 "snipers." but why sniper? there are so many other choices in the military other than just shooting people you know.

Remember that in order to try out for Jtf2, you need to be PRE-selected, that basically means that you need to be selected to attend selection, not easy to do and unless you prove ALL your commanders that you're a machine that did everything right since day 1, chances you will begin Phase 1 are slim to none.

@tuggerpuppy1 Marine bootcamp is 12 weeks. Canadian Forces Basic Military Qualification is 14 weeks. It is quite amusing that our cooks and clerks have two more weeks of training than your "best" regular force isn't it? Now consider that combat arms trades in Canada go through another 4 week Soldier Qualification course; and then they go through their individual trade training. An infantryman in Canada does nearly three times the training as a marine buddy....and you say you are better trained?

whoa, whoa, whoa, 3:33, pacific Coast:
Prince of Wales Island and Chichagof Island are in the US state of Alaska, why are they labeled here on the map as part of Canada? Is Canada laying claim? Or does it have something to do with the native Haida Indians?

@tuggerpuppy1 You see, our mission at Maple Guardian was to take a village. The US Army flew us in on their Chinook helicopters; yet failed to do so properly....not uncommon. the three birds were to land simultaneously; yet not one touched down at the same time. In fact; the first one landed 90 seconds before the other. They also landed us in enfilade, while the enemy was in defilade. Use your superior training to explain that one pal. ;)

budeiri123 Yes, but he won't be higher than Sergent or Staff Sergent. To be an officier, you need to go to the millitary college, which is really hard to enter.

It would have been faster if I left the reserves, but I would have had to wait 6 months to even apply. At the time I was serving under a full time contract. So rather than be unemployed while applying I decided it would be best to earn a pay cheque while I wait to join the Reg force. even though it took a long time.

My dad and grandfather were in the army in S. Korea (mandatory), so I think I have to go join the Canadian Forces as I have a Canadian nationality, but my mom says it's too dangerous to go overseas and that the education and pay is pretty low, is that true at all?

man, i was just watching an older video that was uploaded in 2006 (coaches corner, rememberance day), and the guy they feature at 4:50, Pvt Mark Graham is listed as KIA... just the fact that i watched both that video and this one almost one after an other kinda makes that a bit disconcerting... specially seeing as this video was only uploaded in 2009. haha obviously this is not an up to date video ;).

FYI to disrespectful AmericansThree of top 5 longest sniper shots are by Canadians. Top sniper of WW 1 on all sides was a Canadian First Nations soldier. We were in WW II 2 years before you.
Canada after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor declared war on Japan before the U.S. did. As one general said if I had Canadian soldiers, British generalship and American equipment We would be unbeatable
