Great real life review. We are thinking of putting a 2nd fan in our conversion and are tempted by the fantastic fan rather than another MaxxAir, this has helped with our research. Thank you :)
I want to share my review of the Fantastic Vent 3350 because my experience with the fan is anything but fantastic. I bought mine 18 months ago, as friends, who have an older model, said it was very good. However mine makes a lot of noise and pushes so little air that I can barely tell if I have it set to exhaust or blow. If I turn it up to get more airflow it becomes even noiser! The rain sensor closes the vent at night so I can only assume that it senses the night time moisture and closes even though it is NOT raining. My friend's older model seems to push more air than my newer model. I get much better & quieter airflow from my little Sirocco fan and it was only $!60 not over $600. Dometic agreed to replace the fan and the airflow improved a little but it is still very noisy AND the rain sensor closes the fan at really odd times like late afternoon. So we can't use the fan unless we manually open the cover. So in summary, I have found it an appallingly poor performing fan that is just not worth the money.
I bought the reversible model w/o the rain sensor as I was going to use a rain cover. Comes in handy being able to use the fan vent while it's raining.
Good morning my friend awesome new video and I must say you a world of knowledge and honest about the products you install and have you been on any adventures lately and I look forward to the next video so take care and stay safe👍🙏🏻
(Number 8) - If you are using the fan at night, though the screen most certainly does keep bugs out, it does not keep them from being "sliced & diced" (a yucky mess) from the fan blade, which is exposed to the outside air, and thus all the bugs. If in an area where bugs are likely to become a problem, open the lid as a vent only (leaving the vent fan off), and run a 12 volt interior fan to circulate air instead.
I just bought a used van that I want to convert and I'm looking for reasons NOT to cut a hole in the roof but I keep coming up empty. Thanks for the perspective from down under.
i plan on getting a max air fan, but in the front i want a six inch round pop up exhaust fan, having a hard time finding one, but i have seen them in other peoples builds. i need the low profile pop up to be underneath my solar panels to create a cross draft.
ref your fan needing a repair i used a product on my motorbike fairings a couple of years ago that is meant for repairs to dentures and is a cold cure system where you pour the powder into a v groove then pour the liquid onto it and it bonds brilliantly and you should be able to get some from a dental repair lab if you explain what you want it for i am sure they would sell you a small quantity or have have come across another product called captain tollys creeping crack cure that may be of some use although i don't have experience of using that product yet
Hey mate, so you can't get warranty on the lid breaking !! with the rain sensing ones the biggest complaint I've seen on the net is when it's raining you can't even open the vent a tiny bit to get some ventilation which would be a pain in the neck !! Thanks for the vid mate. Seeya Rob
I don’t think that would be covered under any warranty unfortunately. I have heard that the rain sensor ones have a manual crank that overrides the sensor but I could be wrong.. hope that helps, cheers mate!
Just installed my Maxx Air fan. It's not hooked up to my battery yet. It has twin legs to support the lid which was one if the reasons I went for it. Where are you located bro ? I'm interested to see where you park overnight in a city while you're working... Cheers
Awesome! Yea a twin leg setup would be better. I’m in Sydney mate and I’m gonna make a video in the future with info on how I find parking spots so stick around 🙂
One fan above the cooker and one floor vent/hole at opposite end (pulling cooler air from beneath the van) Do you think it would work well? as you say you mainly use one fan and the vent only on the second fan.
Back before air conditioning houses were always built with windows and doors opposite each other to create crossflow. The fan at the front and a fan or vent at the back does the same job.
I wish i saw this video before... I have a brand new 1200 in the box and I'm not sold on it yet.. thinking before I cut the roof and install. I think 3amps is a lot for a fan.. I've been testing .5a 5v usb fans and am impressed with how much air they move. Has anybody tried connecting a 100 watt 12 volt solar panel directly to these fans? I'm also tempted to just build a custom Cowl with Lexan that is always open.
Ventilation It's a simple equation to answer..... Would you rather be sweating your tits off or deafened...? You sleep better with a background noise... A Forest/Bird calling video off RUclips for example.

Yea definitely! If the rain isn’t too heavy I can use mine by just opening it a little but when the rain is heavy then I wish I had a rain cover

Hey mate, yea I try to be straight forward and honest as much as possible 🙂 thanks!

This is true 🙂 that’s why I mentioned putting the other fan on exhaust and leaving the one above you as a passive vent 👍🏻
Great info, thanks

Vent line or ventline make one I’m pretty sure
@@FreedomInMindtv thank you thats the one... i couldnt find it to save my life lol. bookmarked it for later
Have you done a video on how you get internet in the van?
Not yet but I can add it to the list, just for you 👍🏻
Cheers mate
Are you still happy with the fantastic fan or would you recommend a maxxair fan?

Good tip, thanks for sharing!
How does it get power? I have a jackery and only a 100w solar panel.
6:51 "I very rarely need anything more than number 1"
Ah, so that's why you didn't bother with a bathroom ;)
Hahaha nice pickup..
🤣😂

They do make aftermarket vent covers like the max air fan, possibly clear, smoke, and painted. Just a thought...
Do you have a video on your 12v set up
Will definitely be doing one on the power system soon! Thanks for watching 🙂

Yes ,made in the USA Imlay City ,MI. To be exact. My wife's company manufacturers them for Dometic .
I called them for cs, but the department only sells. Is it possible there is a service # thanks ❣
Should I install the fan before doing insulation or after?
I did fan first
Thanks for the video! Can it be installed in place of the emergency exit? I’m wondering about the sizes

Yea that’s true, definitely the way to go 🙂
What are you using to power the fans?
They are 12v, so battery or solar

how much extra height do's it add to the height of the van
Not sure exactly but maybe 150mm
MY FANTASTIC VENT IN THE MAIN COACH WILL NOT SPIN IT OPENS BUT WILL NOT SPIN CAN YOU HELP
Same problem. I just opened the box of my 2003 purchased, model 5000. Did you figure the problem ? Thanks
Why not just have 1 fan and leave the van’s front windows open a little to create good air flow?
As always mate...👍👍
Thanks Mark 👍🏻
That white noise will also help those people who suffer with tinnitus
Good info, thanks. :)
You’re welcome!
did you install it yourself ???
Yea I’ve done everything on the van myself. Thanks for watching!
heads up, the fan link is dead ;)
I can tell you that MaxxFan customer service is a nightmare.
Video starts at 0:57.
But then you’ll miss all the tasty footage at the start! 😉
It starts at the beginning as with all things. 0.00
What kind of RV you have? Its not a VAN. Looks more like a Class A or Class C RV Or even a School buss?
sprinter :)

Yea true, for me I find the fan noise quite relaxing if it’s on low
Man ... you have invested some $$$
Don’t remind me haha
BecauseiVan in the right places...👍
A van in Australia = microwave oven
maxxfan deluxe for me.
Nice, any good?
