Saw her on stage 3 times. Helen is right, if you ever saw her on stage you never forgot it. She was mesmerising. She captivated the whole audience. People went wow at the end.
Agreed. Her performances in “The Way of the World” and “Lettice and Lovage” were two of the most memorable performances in my lifetime of theatre going.
I saw Dame Maggie Smith on stage in London in an American play, “The Lady from Dubuque”. It was absolutely wonderful and she shone, as you might expect, in an exceedingly good cast. The bonus of that evening at The Haymarket Theatre, was that we saw her great friend and acting peer, Dame Judi Dench in the audience. Stellar evening in more ways than one!
Such a talented lady. She was great till the sunset years of her life. Can’t imagine a Downtown Abbey without her witty comments. RIP Dame Maggie Smith.
I remember back in the early 1980s seeing The Rivals in the West End. I think Joan Plowright was in it too. The start of the play was not at all engaging (Princess Margaret was reported to have fallen asleep), some people even left the theatre, then Maggie Smith came on & you could sense the audience sit forward in their seats & the whole experience was transformed. She was absolutely compelling. A sad loss for her family, but she had a good long life & entertained us well into her later years. A true National Treasure & gem.
Was lucky to have seen Dame Maggie on stage twice: At Stratford in 1980, co-starring with Brian Bedford in "Much Ado About Nothing;" and in London in 1999, in Alan Bennett's "The Lady In The Van." (I have the movie version of the latter on Blu-Ray). She was a uniquely talented actress whom we'll all miss.
Maggie Smith Helen Mirren and Judy Dench are trailblazers for women who had careers that outshone the first blush of youth of every woman actress. It’s about time!! Women are just if not better with age and can command the screen over the age of 30!!! RIP Maggie, the creme de la creme❤
Helen Mirren is so polished & extraordinary in her own tremendous talent...her tribute is just perfect, you feel her affection for Dame Maggie ❤ On Eagles. 🦅🕊️ Wings...🌹💖🩵
Saw her at Stratford, Ontario, Canada in several plays. However she was not in "Measure for Measure," Part way through the play she walks on stage. She had taken the time to turn up, be made up and costumed to stager across the stage as a drunk woman and disappear.
I dont understand the just England thing. You played the Queen Ms Mirren who was Queen of Great Britain and N. Ireland which consists of Scotland and Wales. I mean honestly, and a great loss for Englands theater world only.... Youve come down in my estimations.. 😢
Guess what ? This wealthy old dame of the realm would also have claimed NHS public funds to pay for her care at $1500 per week omg starmer must remove NHS means test free palliative care
God bless Dame Maggie and Dame Helen.
I wonder how Dame Judi Dench is doing, as she & Dame Maggie Smith were very close. RIP Dame Maggie Smith & love to her 2 boys.
She won 2 Oscars One Lead One supporting . Godspeed.
We in the USA loved and respected her tremendous talent. ❤

wow. How fortunate you are to have seen her on stage.
@@normadesmond6017 I saw her and Judi Dench together on stage in The Breath of Life, a play by David Hare. It was a real wow pinch me moment.

@@partycentralsales I saw her in Lettice & Lovage also. She and Margaret Tyzack were amazing. Maggies comedy timing was impeccable. One of the greats.
@@pureb7235 how wonderful that must have been!
Another grand dame who has aged gracefully.
Love Maggie Smith. RIP.

The first film I recall being WOWED by was Smith in The Prime of Ms. Jean Brodie. It led me into a career as an artist and teacher.
Really? Woah, that's really cool. I wonder how many other teachers she inspired the same was as you
Amazing and powerful women!
**** off why does it matter they were women? Neither would have won Oscars if there wasn't an actress category
Helen is so beautiful, gracious, talented, authentic... I just love her!
RIP Maggs. xo
Will miss her loved her she reminded me so much of my grandmother even had same voice it was eerie watching her on film what a tremendous loss :(
Saw her on stage 50 years ago. I have never forgotten it.
I watched The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie for the 5th time in 2009, I watched it as if it was the first time. Perhaps I'll watch it again later.
@EagleRockers What was the Production you had the privilege of seeing her in?

Love them both. Good actors…
Great actors. Not good actors

May Her memory be Eternal
Beautiful tribute from one national treasure to another ❤❤❤
She will indeed be sadly missed, RIP.

She won 2 Oscars and was British, nor just English

When Maggie won her second, Oscar staring alongside Michael Caine and sadly Michael’s health is not good at the moment.
Yeah Mirren is also a great woman it’ll be an unfortunate time when she’s gone too
I grew up in Stratford with her sons Christopher Robin and Toby 💋❤️
Dame Maggie Smith would've turned 90 on December 28 this year.
It,s a very sad day,yes,❤❤❤❤
Won two Oscars. One for best actress and one for best supporting actress.
Dame Maggie had some great lines with Dame Diana Rigg and Bette Davis.
Farewell maggie.a huge hole has appeared in the world.😢😢😢😢😢😢

DAME!
Helen my LOVE, my girl, my princess, my Queen of my heart ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I LOVE you, Helen ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Hellen mirren was a very attractive woman in her 40s ... Her french is very good too
She is STILL very attractive.
Excuse me! I've had a girl crush on this wonderful human being for 25 years, and OMG I still do. It just reasserted itself! 😍

Not only the Oscars but she was almost an egot. Her accent alone would’ve won her a granny if she chose a vocal focus project.
Dame Mirren always liked to show more skin than Maggie Smith would have ever liked, they were fundamentally different.
I bet Maggie died in a posh nursing home with no visitors..Helen when did you last see her ?
No she has her own villa, what nursing home?
She died in a hospital surrounded by her family. Did you even read her obituaries?
I am a specialist in palliative care so in uk I have sent many slowly dying 80 year olds to nursing homes because hospice care is wasted on them
Guess what ? This wealthy old dame of the realm would also have claimed NHS public funds to pay for her care at $1500 per week omg starmer must remove NHS means test free palliative care
@@Chris-wj8fz you are a specialist in palliative care?? Goddess of the universe please take me instantaneously before having this fool in my presence
And I love Helen Mirren so very much.
