Wild Weaseling in the F-35 must a be an interesting experience.. So much EW equipment built into those things they can basically map the battlefield in real time, jam the track radar, and attack from standoff range at the same time. Vietnam Era pilots slinging Shrikes would be drooling over this lol
@@czoom51what do you mean?.. they can carry JSOW internally.. they also have wing pylons they can use which opens up the entire arsenal at the expense of some rcs.
I watched this and I remember when you were born Austin and watched you grow into a fine young man and now serving our country. Words cannot express what I feel.
So has the 308th been formally designated as a Wild Weasel F-35 squadron? I’ve been expecting that to happen at some point but hadn’t heard of it actually occurring. I read the 308th was a training squadron, primarily for foreign F-35 customers. Yet all of the pilots in this video are wearing the Weasel patch, the opening audio track supports it, and I think it’s implying they are all assigned to the 308th.
Nope, all 3 variants of F-35 have the same SEAD and EW capabilities so now, every F-35 squadron of any service (whether USAF, USN, or USMC) is a Wild Weasel unit.
@@ezrad5273 not the technical aspects of the F-35 (any variant) for the Weasel mission Im questioning. Each grad in this video specifically is wearing the weasel patch, and they recite the whole “You gotta be shitting me” speech fro Vietnam. That’s the reason I say it seems they have designated a group of pilots specifically as F-35 weasels. Do you have more information suggesting this is not the plan? Just trying to get all the data available.
@@davidmelton3704 Nope again. That is not the plan at all. The pilots in this video wear the YGTBSM patch just to look cool but in reality, every Fat Sally driver can do what they can do wrt to SEAD. Pair up a 4-ship F-35 with 2-ship EA-18G and tell them to attack an IADS network and they wouldn’t be saying YGTBSM. Half of the pilots are Dutch so they’re not really cleared (and have no access) to the full capabilities of the jet.
Hi anyone know the meaning of the hand gesture at 1:58 and 2:08 (in the fighter pilot context)? I`ve seen it in other fighter pilot videos too. Does it just mean "hang loose" as in the Hawaiian surf culture?
I'm not American, but we usually just use it to mean "all ok" its not officially used by marshals or any one on the flight deck its more of a weird type of hand signal slang.
Do you think you will ever get the opportunity to be based on one of the QE2 British carriers like the wake island avengers VMA211 currently are like the idea of a beer in their bar 😎
Bit late to your comment, but hopefully it helps. These guys are flying what looks to be the f35A on their B course. The only variant that can be stationed on our QE class carriers are the F35B's, such as the ones from the marine corps. As these dont have stovl capabilities, they wont succesfully land of take off from our carriers, which menas they cannot be deployed onto them. Would be cool to see more intergration with the USAF and Royal Navy air platforms. Hope this could help, have a great day. :)
I recognized the photo of WWII P-51 ace Bob Goebel on the wall. I had the pleasure of meeting him some twenty+ years ago and he autographed his book for me. What is weird to me, I noticed as the plane was leaving, what kind of salute was the pilot giving with two fingers, similar to street rappers, while the crew chief gave proper military salute. Seems like even today's military want to fit in the "politically correct" social environment😞 Wonder when they are gonna display "BLM" on their planes! (and that BLM is not bacon-lettuce-and- mayonnaise!)
Its a hang loose gesture its like saying "see you when we get back on the ground". I and many other crew chiefs always return the gesture back to our pilot boyos after we render our salute.
People who don't understand what these videos are about... They aren't made for you tryhard aviation fans, they are made for friends and family of the Pilots.
Or the audio 50 seconds in which is from an F-16 who was part of the Package Q strike back in 1991. That viper dodged 6 SAMs with malfunctioning countermeasures that wouldn't fire. Sort of annoying to overlay that sound over a video like this.
Bringing their GoPros inside the F-35 cockpit was a big security violation because the jet is considered a flying SAPF due to its 5th gen technologies. There’s a lot of ultra sensitive capabilities of the jet that’s visible and audible to the pilot inside the cockpit. The GSSO of 308FS and the PSO should investigate those pilots for the violations!

But still nobody can match the brass balls and courage of wild weasel pilots who flew in Vietnam
They don't have much in the way of standoff munitions, SDBs are on there way.
@@czoom51 AARGM-ER is on the way and if they truly wish they can just hang stuff on the wings.

"B" course graduate from the 308th TFS at Homestead back in '83, flying the F-4D. You are indeed lucky to be flying such an awesome weapon system!
