    Ive had fold4 for 3weeks now, and I can say that the extra boost in screen brightness in the newer model, has me considering upgrading later when the prices come down below 1500$ on the used market. I mean the extra brightness that is only unlocked when adaptive brightness is enabled. Only activated outside in daylight. The screen is quite dim in the summer.

    • @AndroidAddicts
      @AndroidAddicts  Год назад

      Interesting! I assume that's with the unfolded screen or are you finding the Fol4 dim on the cover screen too?

      @nBasterd can you tell me honestly. Is the cover screen at least usable. I'm thinking of making the fold 5 my first foldable. I would like to be able to use the screen when needed.

    • @nBasterd
      @nBasterd Год назад

      @@kimbridge5592 its very usable. Especially one handed. But I do understand now, why almost all of the real reviewers on youtube complain about samsung not changing the aspect ratio. Samsungs aspect ratio is the thinnest. Any other fold you pick up, feels more akin to a regular phone. Typing on that slim keyboard is a little silly, everytime I have to do it. Im betting they will soon change that. They havent had real competition in the market until now.
      On picking up the new model, consider that I paid 800$ for my unit(fold4), second-hand, 512gb with case. I have seen that price at least 5x in the past month. The depreciation on these things is excellent! You dont want to be the original buyer..

    • @choiboix
      @choiboix Год назад

      @@kimbridge5592It is more than usable but obviously not as comfortable as a regular phones wider aspect ratio. Its the same width of the iPhone Mini so if you prioritize one handed easability and want a mini tablet size screen as your primary use case and think you'll use the inner larger screen more than the narrower outer screen, it works fine for on the go use cases. But if you want to use the cover screen more and only want to use the inner screen couple of times, the pixel fold might work better. Pixel fold users seem to be using 70-80% cover screen and only opening 20-30% of the time.

    Fold 5 owner here and I can say the battery life to me was pretty shocking. I sent a few screenshots of my SOT to a friend of mine who has the fold 4 and asked him if there were any similarities to when he got his and he said "nope. On a good day I could get slightly in the ballpark of where you are but it wasn't as good as yours on my day one." Battery life has been great on my fold 5...shockingly so.

    Every reviewer is bashing the Fold 5 for not bringing improvement, but this battery life extension is very significant. I saw another drain test video with the 4 against the 5 and the results were comparable (both new devices). I just upgraded from the 4 and also have to say to differences are in the refinement but definitely there. The hinge feels so much smoother, crease is less noticeable to name a few. It feels yet again more refined. Worth upgrading? For sure, if you get a good deal.

    • @AndroidAddicts
      @AndroidAddicts  Год назад +1

      Oh definitely - I think you hit the nail on the head - if you can get a good deal then it's definitely worth the upgrade 👍

    • @choiboix
      @choiboix Год назад

      I'm in the same boat. Upgraded from the 4 due to a great trade in deal and my god, there are some major noticeable differences for me. Particularly the thickness (only 3mm at the hinge but it's definitely noticeable), weight (9 grams is noticeable holding both), smoother/quiet hinge opening (fold 4 hinge was too stiff in the initial open action that my fingers would slip often), flatter crease though the fold 4s deeper crease didn't bother me that much, along with longer battery life. The fold 5 is really what the fold 4 should've been.

    Thanks for the video! in real world situation i can see the 1 hour extra be useful if you forget to charge your phone overnight and on the way to work with 10% left lol! but otherwise that 1 hour extra wont make a difference for someone who charges their phone daily around the same time

    • @AndroidAddicts
      @AndroidAddicts  Год назад +2

      Thanks for watching! Very true - I imagine commuters (train/bus) could find the extra time more useful but like you say, as soon as you got to work/home you'd charge up anyway so probably not going to make a massive difference in a real-world situation

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England Год назад +1

      Also, assuming a 7% deterioration in battery capacity on the Fold 4 then that hour is more like 30 mins and that ties in with most reviews I have seen. A minor battery upgrade and definitely not worth upgrading for the battery especially as Instagram seemed to be a bug losing twice as much.

    • @adivoma7
      @adivoma7 Год назад

      That extra 1 hour is of gaming. So ig we can assume that the difference would be 2+ hrs of normal use.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England Год назад

      But the Fold 4 inexplicably lost 12% more on Instagram which suggests a bug, so that 12% plus say 8% battery degradation (year-old average loss) ties in with my expectations of minimal battery difference, possibly 30 mins in favour of the Fold 5!@@adivoma7

    The upgrade in the chip is a half-click as both are 5nm (marketed as 4nm) TSMC-made. So apart from the GPU that is a minor reason to upgrade. Even the faster storage and RAM are not really noticeable in most daily stuff, though clearly if you are a power user or gamer then it may be enough to upgrade.
    My take is nothing revelationary, but I would say that in the UK there is a nominal reason to upgrade from Fold 4, and even, very questionable whether you should upgrade from Fold 3. Probably wait for a newly-designed Fold 6 or see what the Honor and OnePlus folds have to offer as they are likely to be much cheaper.

    • @AndroidAddicts
      @AndroidAddicts  Год назад +2

      Yeah I've only noticed the loading time whilst they're side-by-side so although this is a nice difference, it's nothing most users would even notice - especially when doing normal tasks.
      The Fold 5 should have probably been left until next year when maybe there'd be more improvements/innovations but this is Samsung so we need to have a new phone every year...

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England Год назад +1

      @@AndroidAddicts It's a solid iterative refinement but I was expecting bigger changes as we have seen with Huawei, VIVO, Honor, OnePlus, Xiaomi, OPPO, etc. This is a new category and usually, we get exponential innovation, not really seeing that with Samsung...maybe next year?

    • @AndroidAddicts
      @AndroidAddicts  Год назад +1

      I did think about testing with just the external display but I think the majority of people would be using the internal screen - although it would be interesting to know the difference I admit. Sadly I don't have time to do another drain test in that way.
      I can tell you now that the S23 Ultra will easily beat the Fold5 in a drain test as I got over 11 hours in my test a few months back: ruclips.net/video/A3UYp-NyFY8/видео.html
