  • Here you go! This time we are painting BRUMMBAR. I painted camouflage on the color-modulated dark yellow to express the weathering with oil paint with more information. This time, I hope I was able to create the atmosphere of German tanks at the end of World War II by adding a lot of accessories and expressing the damage.

    well done👍. Unfortunately, an error has crept in. The Brummbär had steel wheels on the front and back pair. Because these rubber rollers were subject to severe wear and tear during operation due to the additional weight. Because the chassis was never designed for this weight. Later, some tanks were even equipped with steel rollers. But if ones with rubber were used then only the two middle and the front and rear pairs of rollers were with steel rollers

    EXCELLENT! up to 10:00. You are the only person I have seen on RUclips that shows chipping on German armor did not go to the bare metal (unless of an impact).
    I was a volunteer at the Patton Museum ( back when we had tanks). We had 2 that still had original paint. The red lead primer did not scuff off. The only rust on the tank we had PZ4 -F or G. Was the track. Because the track were not painted. All of the Aberdeen Tanks were painted the same color. What ever was on sale the day they got the paint. The chipping you see is 60+ years of crap post war paint, not original paint.

    You get a lot of questions regarding the airbrush, pressure, thinner, etc because it is remarkable that you can shoot such thin lines and control overspray, as you did with the camo patterns in this vid. I have a high end airbrush with a .15 nozzle and I have not been able to make it work magic as you have. If you have the time, more detail on your airbrush setup, paint thinning and and in general how you work the airbrush would be helpful.

    • @scalemodelresearch
      @scalemodelresearch  2 года назад +3

      Thank you for your comment. My airbrush is a Tamiya Spraywork REVO, a model that is over 20 years old. Of course the air pressure is not adjustable. The hand piece is also a cheap Tamiya model with a 0.3mm nozzle. In order to draw fine lines, I dilute the paint anyway, but the dilution rate varies depending on the type of paint, and is also affected by temperature and other factors, so I can't give a general answer. You will know your setup after practicing many times. Good luck!

      I am a professional in the fine arts and a model kit enthusiast. I add drying retardant to any acrylic paint mixture. I have tried them all. In the end the best one is: Retarder medium from Vallejo. ref 73.597(it's thick like a gel). Proportions for nozzle 0,15= 7 drops of medium(water, thinner...)+1 or 2 drops of colour+ 1 drop of Retarder (I put a small ball on a brush) Do not mix in the airbrush cup. It works with my Iwata and Harder. Tested with paints and inks: Schmincke aerocolor, Model colour, Premium Vallejo, Model Air Vallejo, Molotow, Liquitex, Rohrer, Acrylic gouache, normal gouache and Talens ink. Everything works with this mixture. Lines as fine as pencil. Pressure: 1BAR

    Fact check: The name of the vehicle is "Brummbär", German for "growling bear". Some people decades ago would type "Bär" as "Baer" for the difficulty to represent the Umlaut. (Also, in German, one capitalises all nouns.) The suffix "-bar" is the German equivalent of "-able" or "-ible"; for example, "hilfbar" is German for "helpful".
    One of the most intriguing and enjoyable aspects of modelling that I have learnt is accuracy, militarily (e.g., distinguishing between unit designations, camouflage schemes, etc.), historically (e.g., would not see an M-26 Pershing U.S. Army Heavy Tank in the Italian Theatre in 1943 because that vehicle had yet to enter operational service), materially (steel objects can rust over time, whilst aluminium things do not), and the like.

    A masterpiece! Anyway, how do you determine the composition and percentage of the mixed colors (e.g., for the camouflage)? Do you follow a known standard, or do you make an experiment of mixing colors beforehand based on some related photos or documents related to the war machine being modeled?

    • @scalemodelresearch
      @scalemodelresearch  Год назад +2

      Thank you! I'm glad you commented. The color mixing is appropriate. I mix colors as I go, and I don't look at any materials. Because it is a plastic model. It is correct to make it as you like.
