This movie is incredible. Tom truly did a great job acting. It’s a very heartwarming story. I spent the entire movie crying, and the fact that it was based off a true story made it more heartwarming. Truly a miracle that the whole family survived 🥺

I cried ugly for this movie when i watch this years ago.
I watched it back in 2013 for the first time. I was alone and bored so I browsed for a few movies and decided on this one. It turned out to be a feel trip, made me shed a few tears. I then decided to play it for my whole family at a family gathering and proceeded to watch the copious amount of tears, hand holdings and embraces from all of them. Truly a sight to behold, so much so that it is still burned in my mind.
This is honestly one of the most heartbreaking movies I've watched, literally in tears every five minutes
Christmas 2004, we decided to delay our trip to Phuket by one week because we were enjoying Sydney. Imagine if we weren't enjoying Sydney... I think about that so much...

Bananasauce public doesn't really relate to drama-disaster movies , as they can only digest one as a exposition, and the other as a straight forward drama ..and for whatever reason , they give Jennifer Lawrence EVERYTHING ... she really has gotten to work with good directors....
There were so many times in this movie I thought the mom was about to die, and when the two younger brothers, Lucas and the dad were in the same place but didn’t see each-other I was gonna scream but then they found each-other and I was so happy I cried

pvriscillaaa I just watched it last night and I have NEVER cried so much ever for a movie. I woke up right now with a splitting headache because of all the crying I did. They did a great job of making you feel like you were there and all the helplessness. Apparently around 240,000 people died from that event. So incredibly awful and sad.

It kills me that we can come together during these types of tragic events but then things go back to the way they were & were either ignoring each other pain or being the cause of it.
Every time I watch the trailer I cry. I was there when it happened!! I was on a liveaboard, diving in the Similans (in the Andaman sea, Indian Ocean). On the day it happened, our boat was heading back to Phuket but we were told to stay away and remain out at sea. At the time, we were told giant tidal waves have hit Phuket cos of earthquake in Indonesia. The next day, we managed to get back to Phuket and flew back to Singapore. I only found out how bad it was when I saw the news - BBC & CNN when I got home. We were very very lucky. My heart goes out to all the victims and their loved ones.
It is definitely not a “fun” movie. It’s amazing and amazingly well crafted, but not one you wanna watch all the time.

I was a teenager in 2004 when that happened, I still remember the breaking news, the devastation, the shock, the donations, the footage, the mourning, not only in southeast Asia, in the entire world. Every country on earth was impacted more or less, almost every country on earth lost at least one citizen that was there for the holidays, the entire world lowered their flags and announced day of mourning. I couldn't sleep well for days, I had this strange feeling of guilt for being safe in my home in Europe. It may sound surreal for those who weren't born in 2004, but this event changed everything.

Guys, I just watched the movie and wow I’m touched, it’s so beautiful (no spoilers), and so much perseverance! So much! And the fact that it’s a true story just melts my heart even more, I heard that in the real life situation over a quarter of a million died is this tsunami! God bless everyone who went through that situation! God bless you, now I’m not gonna lie , if I didn’t know that it was a true story I wouldn’t have cried. But, because it was true it really touched my heart. Now I have been in a tsunami a very little one and I almost shattered my leg, because I saw all the water in the sea disappearing and I was thinking ‘What is going on hear’? And I looked closer. Big mistake when you see the water disappearing , you run and run and run and run until you physically can’t go any more, I have done years and years of training with my personal trainer. So I ran for my life, picked up my litter brother and sister and ran. I shouted for my parents to run and they did so. The tsunami hit me hit me hard, I nearly shattered my left leg, however my right leg broke, I’m fine now because that was 1 year ago. But I covered my siblings bodies under my’n to protect my family. For me nothing can over top love and family. If you red all this you are a true trooper and a powerful person.

I just watched this movie, and I recommend it to anyone that is considering, or even not considering watching it. It is full of so many heart wrenching moments. The fact that it is a true story just makes it so much more devastating. You feel the pain of the people in the story, and more importantly you also feel the love and the compassion of the people as well. What got to me the most in this film was the eldest son Lucas and his mother. The amount of love and care that they have for one another, and the strength they give one another throughout the film is heart stoppingly beautiful. You can almost feel the amount of love that is shown in this movie. By far my new favourite.
