INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Push the seat forward
2) Lift the seat
3) Unplug the plug
4) Pull out the tab
5) LEAVE IT UNPLUGGED to bypass the safety -
You're done...
No complaints from this lawn dog; worked like a charm. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Appreciate the help.
Thank you so much for this. I never had a problem when mowing, but my mom is 5' tall and 95 lbs. and she requires the seat to be in the most forward position. The combination of all those things results in the mower constantly shutting off if she shifts her weigh in the slightest. The mower was basically unusable for her, until I followed these simple instructions. Ridiculous nanny state stuff drives me nuts, thanks for providing this info for we adults that don't need our world bubble wrapped!
I'm not that light but I had the same issue - Glad it works for her (and love the bubble wrapped comment)
Stay safe
Thanks for the video. I just bought this tractor last week and the seat switch was driving me crazy. All good now!
Thank you for these instructions. You saved me a lot of time. So easy, but I realize I benefited from your time. Thanks again!
This is one of the greatest videos I have ever seen on RUclips. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Worked! Thanks a million. Took half a second to use a flat head screwdriver to pry up the plate. Now I can get off the mower without having to turn the engine off.
alright this was by far the best video I have ever seen in a while, Awesome Commentary.
This worked perfectly. I can now shift my weight while mowing without it starting to shut off. Great video! Thank you!
What started my quest (I'm a skinny type).
Glad it worked for you. Stay safe.
"It's just that simple folks. if you can't figure it out or need more instruction then you are probably too dumb to be doing this. Please don't do it. Etc."
Legendary.
Worked perfectly on my Ariens 936083 (made by Husqvarna). Thanks for passing along the information. Your video was fine. Your explaination was clear.
Awesome, simple trick. It got cold and the switch stopped working.
Thank You!!!
thanks for the video! I messed up the switch trying to disable the safety and couldn't get the mower to run. Then I found this video and I'm good! Too sensitive switch is disabled and the mower runs! thanks!!!!
thanks for the video! I'm working on a flood damaged Troy built for a friend and the safety switch was keeping it from moving. 🤘🖒
Thanks a bunch for this. This is about the simplest thing in the world to improve the mower. Its kinda like....duh! Appreciate it.
I've disabled the seat interlock on at least three machines and was prepared to do the same on husqvarna. Then I read a little farther, and see I don't have to. I post another comment as follows, and of course it works, and is a much better solution because you can then get off with the engine running to remove debris from your path. (or look for noises while the engine is running)
I quote >>> from " lwalker, Senior Member
It's pretty easy to do on my Husqvarna, but I haven't. There's an ignition key position so you can back up with the blades engaged (they warn you not to do this for obvious reasons) so a lot of people must have complained about not being able to do it. And if you engage the brake and disengage the blades, you can get out of the seat and it will keep running."
Great video, thanks! Actually you should have said to those who cannot figure this out after watching your video they probably should not be getting off their mower with the engine and or blade running.
must agree with most opf the comments... This works, & what I needed on my hillside!
awesome! u just saved me a lot of hassle and money. worked like a charm thank you
Worked perfect on 2014 Husqvarna 22hp 46" deck. Thanks a million.
Thank you for the video, this works great without permanently altering the mower if I decide to sell it.
gracias desde patagonia argentina, excelente explicación.
thanks from Argentina Patagonia, excellent explanation.
Thanks! Saved me a great deal of time and aggravation!
Very easy to do and a permanent solution. Thanks!
Wow awesome! Quick and simple! Thank you so much!
That worked perfectly. Thank you.
Great video and it just answered my question about bypassing the seat safety switch very easy fix. Thanks
One word, ...Genius!
Worked perfectly by the way thanks buddy
I stay pretty busy folks-
To all that say thanks - well, your welcome. I will approve comments as I'm able.
Excellent. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much this was the same for my brand new craftsman t3000
Glad it helped you - Stay safe!
That's great...thank you. Also, I appreciate the way you call out folks that shouldn't do this.
+Bishop Coop Was plagued by trolls on the first one - wasn't in the nicest of moods when I made V2.
Glad it worked, keep safe.
I should have watched this first. I did it differently. My seat flips up and there's a rocker bar set on springs and 2 metal spacers that cause it to rock and complete the circuit. I simply took the spacers out and tightened the bolts all the way so the rocker bar makes permanent contact.
I love this video!
love your honesty
Thanks a million for this video! All the other stuff I found on this was crap. Your video cure my safety seat switch problem instantly! Also love your humorous comment about folks too stupid to do this! lol, hilarious!
+Monte Duncan Glad it helped you. The comment *sheeze* I'd just had so MANY stupid comments and stuff; things happen.
I understand fully. I deal with stupid at my job on a daily basis so I completely understand. Thanks again
Didn't work on our John Deere 120. Sitting on the seat pushes down a button. Just figure out a way to hold down the button. In one case (Husquvara's) I used electrical tape and a penny. For the John Deere I fabricated a wooden wedge 3/4" wide and 2 1.2" long and jammed it on in so that it held down the button. Both worked. Removing the seat of the JD improved access.
Thanks worked like a charm !
Thanks works great
Thanks for posting
I did as you described and have the little tab in my hand. My engine still cuts out when I jump off. I can, however, set the parking brake and get off without the engine quitting... that's almost as good.
Christina Breese Did you plug it back in to the seat connector? (that re-activates it).
If not then they've changed something on the wiring, what year is it. Will look up the harness diagram (those sneaky type people).
CharonNine Thanks for your reply! I did plug it back in. We bought it last year, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a 2014 model. I have the product number and all that jazz, but no mention of year. Product # 960480058 00
Christina Breese After you pull the tab out you do NOT plug it back into the seat connector, that turns it back on again - just leave it UNPLUGGED and it should work for you.
CharonNine Just out of curiosity I did try to run the mower with it unplugged. Right before I plugged it back in. The engine died when I got off the seat. My mower is a special case I guess. Thanks again for your time and help!
Christina Breese Okay, something is definitely strange?!? If the tab is in, it won't run if you get off the seat. If you unplug it, with the tab in, it won't run at all. if you pull the tab and don't plug it in, it ignores the seat sensor (since it is not hooked up).. It almost sounds like you've unplugged something else; from memory the parking brake sensor causes it to ignore the seat sensor.
I would almost need a picture of where & what your plug looks like. Also the product # doesn't help me (no way to cross that to a model #) the actual model number on the plate / sticker would help. Should be yth24v48 or something like that.
I just pulled the switch out of the seat by turning it 1/4 revolution and ran 8 wraps arount the switch with electrical tape in the right spot so the switch fits back in place. No parts to loose and no signs of tampering if unit has to go in for warranty. Just remove the tape.
works as a charm.
Thank you! Good job!
Thank you for your video, it is an easy and clever way to accomplish the goal to bypass seat switch. I may have to do this too, but I'm interested to see if my seat switch has failed. When I test the prongs on the switch and with the switch is off (no one on the seat) there is continuity with the outside prongs (total of four prongs) and inside prongs. With the switch on (as if someone is sitting on the seat) all prongs are open, no connectivity. How can one tell if the switch is broken? Thanks again for you video and any information you can provide. Have a great day!
+Nipomo Beach the switch is working, as you described it.
The person sitting on the seat breaks contact, stays running, getting off the seat makes contact and grounds it.
Wow! Thank you so much for such a quick response. I really appreciate you help. Have a great day! Frank
I noticed Cristina never got an answer to her last post. My mower does the exact same thing. Where is the clutch safety switch in all this? I have an Ariens 96035300 and the switch looks identical..
+Scooter Davis
I've had no time to search for, download, or study the schematic for newer models. If I get a chance from work I will try to help you figure out what they've changed. Sorry the 'fix' didn't work for you.
+Scooter Davis
I just did this to my 2015 Ariens 960460063 and it works great. You still have to push the clutch all the way in to start but the mower will stay running until you turn off the key.
Great tutorial! Thanks. I'm having an issue with my husqvarna tractor, it doesn't want to start.. I changed the fuel filter, oil, air and oil filters, checked the battery, got good gas, changed both plugs. I feel like it floods when I first try to crank it, and then if I wait 30 minutes or so it runs like a charm??? What the hell? It's only 1 season old. I also did the "transmission purge" per the manual, and disconnected the seat. I'm out of ideas. Any thoughts?? I'm desperate.
Get some ether (starting fluid) & spark plug tool.
When it won't start, pull the plug without delay - if it is 'wet' then it is flooding. If its not wet, put a very small amount of ether into the breather foam; try starting it (put the plug back in before you try). That will diagnose your carb (at least in a general sense). If neither of those work, then you need to check the spark (spark light). Rebuilding the carb, or diagnosing electrical problems is not something that can be done over the internet - but that should get you started in finding the problem, and determining a solution.
Remember: Engines only need 3 things to run; Fuel/Air, Spark, Compression.
Good Luck!
CharonNine Thanks man. I know I sound like a complete tool, but where do I squirt the starting fluid? I know you are laughing. I'm okay with it.
Lisa Barrett The 'air filter' (breather foam (most have foam around it)) - on my engine it is at the front, under a plastic cover held down with two thumb-screws.
Okay, I snickered a little; but no laugh I promise.
CharonNine My engine looks just as you have described yours. I'll try again today. Thanks for the help and the patience and the lack of ridicule :) Fingers crossed.
Lisa Barrett spray it where your air filter is
Hi! I have a 2007 Husqvarna 48" hydrostatic tractor. For the past few years, sometimes I will have to wiggle my weight from side to side to get the engine to turn over. I'm assuming that the seat safety switch is going bad due to this behaviour. Well, yesterday it got rained on and when I tried to start it, the engine would not turn over. The hour meter would turn on and the battery is fine. I wiggled my big ass multiple times during the day and never could get it to turn over. From your experience, does this sound like my seat safety switch is bad and if I bypass it like you did, it should work? I was reading on a forum that implied that if the switch was bypassed, the engine would not run at all. But obviously it does work according to all the positive comments you have. But I wonder if certain models will not run if it's bypassed? I'm going to try this today and pray that it works.
Also, heres another question that you may be able to help me with. When I have been mowing for approximately 20 minutes or more, my engine will start sputtering. As soon as it starts doing it, I immediately start towards the building because I know whats coming. At times I have had to pull the choke out slightly to make it back to my destination but that only buys me a few more seconds of run time. After the mower quits, it's impossible to restart it until it completely cools off. I've changed the air and fuel filter. I've put new plugs in it. I run fresh gas with treatment additives. I make sure the gas cap is on tight. My mechanic has no clue why it does this and neither do I but it is very frustrating. I may be able to mow one day and not have any problems and the next day it will act up like I described. It has done it in cool weather as well as hot weather. Any ideas?
I really hope this bypass method gets me up and going. To me, it seems like that switch has went bad since I have to do the shimmy shimmy shake on the seat sometimes. But then again, I have noticed my brake pedal feels a little different when I depress it. May be my imagination since I'm trying to figure out why it won't start. I hope to hear back from you soon! I will post my results as soon as I can, hopefully with positive results. Many thanks for your time!
Sounds like your fuel pump is going out. You have to pull the motor number should be a KT735-xxxx and that will tell you which one you have. (the diaphragm is failing under heat)
CharonNine Wow, you just made me one very happy camper! Fixed my mower within 5 minutes! Would have been less than that but my pliers were too big for the job. Ended up working it out just enough with some tweezers so the pliers jaws could get a bite. Voilà! Worked like a charm! Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make this video! It blows my mind that TWO separate "professional" mechanics couldn't diagnose the problem! Their response was... "Well, it's not doing it now." 😕Really?
Anyways, thank you again! And thank you for responding so fast and giving me advice on my fuel pump! I will go ahead and start planning on replacing that as well. This video is what makes RUclips so fricking awesome! Thanks bud and have a great Fathers Day Weekend!
thanks for the tip....
(When connected) Is it known that these sensors will break and then cause loss of power even when on the seat?
+Compost Wise Yes they will.
I have a 5 yr old Cub Cadet LTX1040. Does anyone have a thought if this trick will work for my machine. My hand brake linkage is non functioning and needa quick fix as I clean up for winter. Thanks to anyone who can help.
Thanks, I will use this remedy
Wow that was easy. Wish I knew it years ago.
thanks so much! I am estatic!
awesome!!!
Is it possible to re-insert the tab after it has been pulled out? In case I want to add the safety to it again?
+DEE K Yes I put that one back in to video tape it. Just note that plugging the plug back into the seat turns the safety back ON, without having to put the tab back in.
I was wondering about that. So what is the purpose of the tab?
+DEE K The tab shorts the 'safety circuit' to prevent it from running.
THX!
+CharonNine or in our case for a brand new Poulan tractor: PP20VA46 shipped to our driveway Friday, DOA until the above mentioned tab was removed. No amount of big American ass in seat engaged that POS plastic switch. Thanks CharonNine for the video, we owe you a beer.
this does not work and turns off when you engage the blades to start cutting the grass and nobody can tell me which wires I am supposed to jump
Not sure what you've done - this has nothing to do with the blades (in general - nothing in the instructions tell you to jumper anything etc -- in actuality you are REMOVING a jumper and unplugging the seat switch)
Haha probably too dumb.. your funny dude 63w wheeled vehicle repair, love your video
This didn't work on my Husqvarna mower you can get out of the seat as long as the blades are not engaged but once the blades are engaged if you get out of seat the motor still shuts off. so if mowing on a bank and I slide sideways on the seat the motor still wants to shut off.
Hum.... Simple logic - if the seat connection is not connected it can't tell if you get off the seat.
/shrug. There has to be something new, something missed, etc.
In your case you have to do as described below. Turn plug 1/4 turn to remove from seat. Then compress and wrap with elect tape.
Asesome. Thanks
lol, bloody trolls. thank you for this!
You simply said to lift the seat forward. From the top? Lower back? What if there's a cat sitting on it? Shoo it? Wait? I would give this video two thumbs down if I weren't so concentratey on everything else at once like breathing to figure it out.
I got the same results by unplugging it and leaving it unplugged
