I flew the "Pocket Rocket" for five years as a Training Captain - loved it.
There was no such thing as being high on approaches as we often did 10,000ft at 10 miles strait in & still Spool Up (no thrust under 80% with those engines) & stabilise.
In our day in Australia there was no speed restriction below 10,000 ft so we could keep up 300 kts to around 4 miles strait in.
We did a regular ferry flight from YBSC to YBBN at 5,000 ft / 300kts chock to chock in 10 minutes doing 200 cockpit checks plus ATC (Give that a try & see if you can beat us) 😊
That sounds awesome.
amazing!
Challenge accepted! Just confirm it's YBSC? I can't find an airport with that code. I can find a YBSU there, Sunshine Coast. I'll give that a try ;-)
@@A330Driver Sorry - YBSU Sunshine Coast.
The route must go out around the coast for noise abatement.
In our day it was Maroochydore & btw another Captain & I flew the first jet service in there in 1984.
I still have my training notes for the F28 on what we called the Speed Brake rule which I would be willing to share if I could find a way.
@@billolgaauHello Captain, I am trying to create a Virtual Airlines allowing simmers to fly the Fokker 28, it will replicate TAT European Airlines. However very few documentation is available about the plane? Would you care to share about it? 🙏🏻✈️❤️ I will be then able to edit and prepare some additionnal documentations. I already started to prepare a Loadsheet template. I am missing the Balance sheet to complete it. Also I cannot find any good checklist for the plane, maybe you have some? I will definetly care about Spoilers SOP and others. Cheers, Alex from Switzerland
Having a functional cabin crew panel is pretty top notch. I've always wanted something like that ever since fully modeled cabins came out for the sim.
Right? If only developers of modern airliners would include this feature too. But i guess I’ll take what i can get!
Now they just need shared cockpits so you can con someone into being your flight attendant.
It's a pretty neat feature indeed!
On the other hands side though, how often will you *really* use it?
I'll probably do a few times at first but that's it.
Do note however that in modern airlines those panels are super complex. I tend to say an A330s Forward Attendant Panel is more complex than the entire F28s Autopilot.
@@A330Driver Truth
Thanks for the video. In the beginning, you mention the lift dumper at the tail. As to my knowledge, the lift dumpers are at the wings, the speed brake is at the tail ... a Fokker rarity.
"It was also fitted with a five-section lift-dumper that would only be operated after landing, it was decided to employ a lift-dumper rather than alternatives such as thrust reversers, as the designers felt that this arrangement would result in a reduction in both weight and maintenance workload. ..... One uncommon feature of the F28 was the movable split-sections installed on the tail cone; these would be hydraulically opened outwards to act as a variable air brake."
Yep, you’re right.
You are really the best flight sim reviewer at the moment! Great job!
Wow, thanks!
Totally agree!
Agree!
You can even upload custom file/music for cabin music. Kudos to JF for doing the F.28 variants. This looks like a very complete and well done product.
Informative as usual! Was waiting for a video from you.
You won't believe how excited I am for this! I'm just in love with everything.. sounds, systems.... just a cute little plane
This looks promising. I enjoyed the BAe 146 as well for this designer
Great video as always! I guess you missed the 'no paint' sign next to the static port though! Although it does look a bit like it is the primer flaking off!
They have done an excellent job with this aircraft.
This one will keep you on your toes! Nice video!
I've learned so much from your videos. Thank you!
Thank you!
Good old VOR-VOR. Flew a few 737-300 at US Airways that didn't have GPS. Always a good time. XD
The reason for the floaty landing is that the same as the 146 you need open the speed brake above the runway I think great video btw
Its floaty because mfs flightmodel is broken
@@hansloyalitat9774your right there, I flew the real thing for 5 years.
This plane looks extremely promising. I fly the 146 almost exclusively these days in MSFS, and the Fokker is a Dutch plane (where I live). A must buy. A tutorial series would be much appreciated.
I'll make one for sure!
What a coincidence, where I live, the Fokker is also a Dutch plane 😅
Good plane to keep myself fresh on using the VOR, ADF etc.. however I feel like it may get frustrating after a while, curious to see how it will handle in VATsim..
i've had controllers give me RNAV routes when flying the 737-200 (vor and adf nav) on vatsim 😥
@@Plupx this is either because they didn't read correctly, or because you filed your flightplan with incorrect equipment codes
@@westereq407 I can file a flight plan correctly. Not saying I'm perfect, but Vatsim controllers aren't all professionals. In Busy airspace some get overwhelmed.
Oh man , those cabin details are amazing , see that Mathijs ? 🤣🤣😅 i am not a fan of this aircraft but have to admit , they did really amazing job .
Remember when I was a Kid traveling on this in Peru Tans Peru fokker 28 🎉
I believe the F28 is likely to float on landing, requiring speed brakes on finals, similar to the Bae146.
Seems like it, at 100ft you're required to take them out.
Is it strange that I’m at work flying real planes and I’m excited to get home to fly a virtual one? 😅
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS the video that I was looking for!
$70 and NO FAILURES though?! xD day 1 purchase for me though. (edit - failures will come after release according to justflight!)
It includes 4 models.
Failures, as explained will come after release.
@@justflight Fantastic! I wasn't able to find this information on the website, thank you, well deserved the price then! Can't wait to fly it tomorrow.
@@justflight Hello... it's been 10 month, and 7 month since last patch for the F28, any progress on adding the failures?
You look at these older aircraft before cockpit standardization became so strong, and they have so much more character, color, etc to them compared to the very sterile and boring ones of today.
Do you think in the future msfs will become a full simulator so when in multi-player your friend can be cabin crew? And maybe add the truck sim, bus sim etc so you can do everything all in the one sim? I suppose it will happen eventually?
haha, I doubt it. Sounds neat, but I I'm not sure I when want those OMSI kids to bring me my passengers :D
Bro flew better than an fmc
hahaha, nah, I overshot quite some turns :D
Better than some MSFS FMC, we can agree on that, though it doesn't mean a lot ;-)
Hallo Emmanuel, I’m already subscribed to your channel for a longtime and watched many videos from you which are always very usefull to learn and better understanding an aircraft. Actually I don’t reply (much) but I like to thank you for flying the old Sabena textures, glad to see it once again. The F28 is an interesting aircraft but directly not my type … sorry.
Otherwise to the painter who did the Sabena livery, please change the aircraft callsign from F-GDUY into a Belgian callsign which starts with OO-xxx. Sabena is the old bankrupt Belgian Airlines and not a French one.
Best regards from Belgium, Emmanuel, and see you on your next streaming.
Thanks Peter! Make sure to submit your suggestion to justflight to fix.
@justflight please see my info about the Sabena livery.
@@peterdr7193 Noted, thanks.
@@justflight Love the fact that you added both Air Anglia and Air UK liveries, as Air Anglia merged with BIA (British Island Airways) to become Air UK, I worked for Air UK in the 1980's. Nice 👌
Do you use any AI traffic when flying offline? If no, I'm just curious, how come?
With the exception of demonstrating the scope of the system & graphical modelling I have never understood the focus on cabins. I do not pilot from the cabin, and I do not simulate being a passenger.
Then again, I have the same beliefs about the modelling of airport interiors (except boarding gate area). I think it is unnecessary unseen elements that only adds extra load to a scenery - and thus our frame rates.
We agree in other a/c we've paid less attention but in this we had the opportunity to go one step further, to bring the cabin to life (minus the passengers of course) so we took it. It's just one of those nice touches that helps to complete the picture. It's been appreciated by most so it was worth doing. But totally agree it's usually a low priority for us. Thanks.
I like how you can actually open the doors from the handles. But i don't have infinite money so this is going to be a skip for me.
The thrust levers on this airplane are so strange. How do u grip them with one hand? Or do u rely on the FO in real life to manage the right thruster while the captain controls the left thrust lever?
There are 2 on each side and they move in sync
As lipslide said, you got two throttles per side. No problem at all to handle them yourself.
Sabena, véry naaaice :p
Is it out yet it's 5am (uk)
lol
Maybe a bit early
Not a fan of this one. Looks like a good one for those that want some of the older aircraft, but this cockpit just doesnt gain my attention. While I dont have the MD80 either, but would prefer it over this one. Hoping we will see the MD-11 pretty soon.
I just like saying Fokker. 😂😂
😂
Does the ap work with g.p.S?
I haven't tried it, sorry.
Pam Martha Fokker
I am really happy about this plane. It is an awesome retro bird like the HeatBlur Tomcat, it looks absolute polished (I have only seen one small graphics glitch: The service door is clipping through the roof of the plane while opening and closing for a second), it sweetens and shortens the eternal wait for the Fenix V2 (legends say it will release next millenium), and it wants me to learn some awesome retro VOR navigation skills.... which I never did. Because I am lazy because that was never necessary in an Airbus *ggg
Ive seen in other streams by competitent simmers and real world pilots...random level offs and uncommanded decents In the climb, not really able to do published climb speeds etc.
What was your experience with that and have the devs stated anything about that?
Im beyond excited for this aircraft having been around them often early in my aviation career ( my ears still hurt😂 ) but a junk flight model is a no go item for me.
I only started flying it yesterday, the others five days earlier, as I went on a four day trip exactly the evening where the preview copy was sent to content creators.
They are still actively working on it until release and new versions were released to creators pretty much every day. Maybe an earlier version had such bugs with the autopilot. At least on those four flights I did with mine so far I did not encounter bugs with the AP. It worked as per the manual.
In regards to the flight model there's two things you can do wrong to kill your climb performance.
1) Forget to release your gust lock. Your engines will be limited to 70% thrust, resulting in approx 230kt at 6000ft in level flight maximum (and don't ask me why the flight controls would work anyway - probably an issue with the pre-release beta)
2) Set your climb thrust incorrectly. Jet engines - especially turbojets like those on the F28 - do not produce thrust in a linear relationship with N1. The last 30% N1 make approx 70% of total thrust output. In the F28 you set your thrust by Turbine Temperatures. There's rather little variance in TGT at high thrust settings though. So you can easily set 10% N1 too little, costing you an easy 30% of total thrust. You got to be very careful with powersettings in the F28, you need to do them precisely at high altitudes.
When that's done though it climbs very nice.
@@A330Driver That darn real world airline life getting in the way huh? ( I know it all to well myself) Thanks for taking the time to share a thoughtful and detailed reply! Appreciate your thoughts on what we have seen so far. Aircraft like the little Fokker have a learning curve with the modern generation of simmers and pilots indeed - beyond just ground based navigation. Looking forward to release and stepping back into time. Its worth a fair shake and JF has a good reputation for support on their products. Blue Skies to you! Cheers
Hi Emmanuel I have a question you've probably already covered but how do I get the 10 mile radius circle on the ND ❓
at least in the Boeings, go to the FIX page and enter the airport ICAO code (for example EGLL for Heathrow) afterwards, put /10 in the scrathpad and enter it into the left line underneath the aurport code.
@@akaufmann thank you much💯
I really have to say that Microsoft flight simulator is pretty damn off with nearly every glideslope and localizer it is very annoying in LIMJ especially when you have scenery installed.
You should try Genova and give us your thoughts! I guess it’s going to get hilarious 😜
Genova actually got an offset ILS in real life as well, at least in terms of the localizer. Flew that once or twice in MSFS and I do seem to remember the GS was totally messed over as well though.
i mean, this is a great addon, but i very much afraid that there is on MASSIVE deal breaker for me! what am i talking about? no functioning toilets! how could they? i'm spending my HARD-EARNED MOOLAH on this! and NO toilets! it's a disaster!
Totally unflyable, I fully agree!
How is the flightmodel?
It's quite manouverable, got a lot of power (provided you set your thrust correctly - which some people seem to struggle a little with, but I'll show you in my upcoming tutorial series) and is a joy to fly.
@@A330Driver Sounds great, I’ll be sure to try it after it releases, I love the look of this aircraft.
😄
Yet another addon plane making PMDG look like amateur hour. BTW folks the PMDG EFB will be available in October 2022.
Comparing an EFIS and a non EFIS plane? Thanks mate, disqualified yourself.
@@A330Driver Disqualified himself from what?
@@A330Driver Youve got to be kidding. You know for a fact that PMDG has been promising the EFB for their planes since forever and a day and all we get is blaming Asobo and more excuses. There are a few planes out now with EFB's that are just as complex as what PMDG is promising and have taken less time to develop. BUT that being said, This Fokker looks damn good and although the price point is a bit high Its probably worth every penny to those who like the older airliners and this Model in particular. 😀 Chhers, and I DO enjoy and recommend your content to others, youre truly top of your game when it comes to reviews and tutorials.
And xplane fanboys still call msfs a arcade game:)
It is a game, the flightmodel is a joke and this plane is full of bugs.
@@hansloyalitat9774 yeah you guys never stop. Full of bs thinking there sim is superior Oh AuSTiN PuT BlAdE eLeMeNtE ThEoRy when Austin didn’t even show up at expo. He knows it’s over. You have no idea how a plane flies if you think flight model is a joke. Xplane doesn’t even have realturb which creates the best turbulence experience! If msfs is a game xplane isn’t any more serious either. And no it’s not faa certified. It’s certified to include faa aproved hardware run on the sim.
@@hansloyalitat9774 I am type rated on the 320 and the Fenix flies extremely well, not like the crappy ffa a320 which flies like a b777
@@majoraviatior1611 You arent type rated for anything and I can see you dont know anything. Stop lying. Every pilot has said that the xplane flight model is better, and that the ffa320 flight model comes the most close to the a320 in real life. Its just a fact that mfs has a crappy flight model. I wish the flight model was good since I love that sim but the fm sucks.
@@majoraviatior1611 Ok, now im sure you are trolling, have a nice day.
