Had a similar thing happen to me when I was still a greenhorn. Climbing a steep, snow and ice packed hill, truck popped out of gear and stopped dead in it's tracks. Despite being chained up, the weight of the load was against me and I slid backwards and the trailer went over the embankment of the road. Only thing that stopped me from sliding into a 80' crevice was the trailer's landing gear snagging on the embankment on the way down.
Definitely a underrated job in terms of respect these truckers should get. I’d be crapping my pants driving that big ass thing on ice or trying to go up a super steep icy hill. If I see a icy steep hill coming up I just turn around lol and I only drive a half ton
This video is a real crash that took a drivers life while filming the 1st episode. They talk about this guy throughout the whole show. This is nothing to do with Darrell nor his death. This guy was the real ice road legend in this crash.
The crash itself look digital, there no way cameras would be so well placed like that even if the crash was planned. Like in many animated movies, gravity isn't right from the moment they accelerate the going backward sequence.
Diffs not locked? Are you all fucking stunned? When he was lifting off after stalling, you can clearly see all the truck's drive wheels are spinning together. If the lockers were not engaged, only ONE set of duals would spin (the one with the least amount of traction) If only the inter axle was engaged, then only 1 set of duals on each axle would spin. Look at 2:11 you can clearly see both RH drive wheels spinning as well as the rear LH wheels. In the next shot both LH wheels are spinning. The truck's diff locks are engaged. I understand this is just a staged/CGI crash but still, don't comment unless you at least have some idea of how this shit works.
he have to put in gear reverse when the truck was stopping , not put in 1 after in L . he have to put in 4 or 5 and give more turation from begin (2000-2200 rpm)
my romanian truck was stopped like this but I don't put in 1 or 2 (6 speed transsmision) I was putting in R ( reverse ) and I give maximum turation. Sure it has without trailer. With trailer is impossible to drive back with more speed.
if you want a real story about ice road trucking" without all the hype "lookup john denison ,he was the father of the ice road in NWT he is the real star "and he was the real deal like all the other men and women who done that job to the best of there ability without any hype from a TV reality show or cameras
This show was so fake. Damn I hated watching it. I remember watching it when Lisa "fell". They hyped it up like she was tightening he load straps, fell, the load fell on her, then the semi flipped and landed on her, then a 50 truck pile up left 49.75 trucks on her, and all that happened was she slipped and got a little snow on her hand. I was so pissed. I knew it was fake, but that was the straw that broke the camels back.
+Lance Roark And they constantly make it overly dramatic, and they never make any sens, they say "Every vehicle must be 1 kilometer away from each other on the ice" well okay don't mind the 3 pickups of the filming team around each trucks
i know it's a commercial but if he had lock both of the rear axle's and engage the Lo speed without touching the gaz pedal he could climb the hill without any problem
They would never load pipe like that on a flatbed. Atleast make it a little more realistic. Example they don't load in the shape of a triangle it has to be rectangular/ square with dunnage on each tier
So fake. Its an insult to our intelligence. My son does it in Canada with runs to Yellowknife and the BHP mine north. They use studded tyres from Michelin. They also are running Euro 5 rated Scanias and MANs with 8 speed auto dual range boxes, traction control and difflocks when its really bad. He says its now really safe, warm a/c and well insulated. In their depot he drives the prime mover in and the crew can change all wheels with different patterns or with chains for ice, mud and snow or highway in less than ten minutes. When he drops off the loaded trailer, the crew come out and guide him to pick up the next trailer. He doesn't get out of the cab. Its the 21C now. There is ample technology to make sub zero driving safe and reliable. They have some Russian guys in the winter crew and they think its heaven compared to back home.

I don't care if it was fake, it was awesome😏

The driver looks like Darrell. At the begining the driver has some skills but at the end...Respect for the Ice Road Truckers!
It was Darren but I don't remember what episode this was
Kool chilling vid....especially when he places his hand firmly on the gear shift waiting for trouble
The crash itself look digital, there no way cameras would be so well placed like that even if the crash was planned. Like in many animated movies, gravity isn't right from the moment they accelerate the going backward sequence.
RIP Darrel Ward he's the trucker in this commercial!!!!

Was this a commercial for ice road truckers?
You people realize that this is fake? its a mix of real video and CG with a controlled crash.

yeah good luck putting in gear while rolling back
When your in that scenario and I have been your fucking raming them your not being nice. I have slid backwards like this.
i know it's a commercial but if he had lock both of the rear axle's and engage the Lo speed without touching the gaz pedal he could climb the hill without any problem
а если у него не было такого?
Андрей Федоров well, you already saw what happen
Thelonewolf95 +
you can't stall on the Lo?
bob-tail you can stall on Lo but loaded there are few chance's that it might happen
This guy have not heard about differential lock and boggi lift =)
They was locked and theirs no cheater axle to lift ya dumbfuck
It's a diesel truck but sounds more like a car..
Si que es peligroso manejar un trailer en en hielo de Canadá
They would never load pipe like that on a flatbed. Atleast make it a little more realistic. Example they don't load in the shape of a triangle it has to be rectangular/ square with dunnage on each tier
Done for comic effect.
Crash maybe?
he should have held out the gear and kept going or when it started to come back down steer and hold it out.
Easier said then done
This is fake because at the start of season 12 it shows that same kenworth jacknifing and they cant set up those cameras but nice photo shop
Look it's fake, but good lord anyone can see that the rear diffs weren't locked.
Tyler Payne yes they where all 4 axles where spinning together

im sorry for the loss of your friend
Omg i’m so sorry
Whats a CRAHS? lol
coventryheating a non English idiot
Это все постановка не более. Видно он не забуксовал а специально остановился.
Yes it’s fake, but of all trucks way a w900? Are they trying to piss off truck fans?
They're a dime a dozen, as much as I love them it's just another truck. At least it wasn't a classic old school needle nose Pete or KW.
78FullSizeBronco your right there, buy as a truck enthusiast who loves the 900s it breaks my heart, they could’ve used like a 1st gen VNL or something
