I don't understand the "dislike" - this is a an amazing composition - pain, confusion, overwhelmed all expressed in a head aching heart aching format. Not my usual "like" but I honestly enjoyed this way more than I expected from the intro Roscoe lol. We cannot begin to understand the struggles our artists go through every single day🤞
I think because this song goes against the grain of kpop it gets so much hate even to this day. This song is what started the whole insult of calling stray kids 'noisy', but they embraced it and perfected the genre to a T. The song is so complex and beautiful, as well as being an absolutely headbanger. People who don't like it just must not be fun at parties imo
I'm 43, my clubbing years was 90s eurotrash/edm so I LOVE side effects, in general my fav skz songs are normally the ones that people either love or hate, like Tortoise & the hare, it's just perfection and stands side by side with maze of memories, side effects, grr, stop, freeze, doodle,

@@billiejeanmartinlaing1678 episode 25 of chan's room around 25 minutes in he says the scream is I.N, then towards the end he says the other scream is himself
This is one of my favorite songs. When I first listened, the screaming literally startled me and gave me so much anxiety, but that was the point. The fact that it could have such a visceral effect is what makes it great and what makes their artistry amazing. If you’re trying to evoke a certain response from your audience, and you get that response, then you did your job right.
What I think is absolutely amazing, is how the more people have criticized Stray Kids over the years, the more it has solidified their sound and style...or at least the "main" sound and style, since these guys literally do everything, lol. People criticized Side Effects as "too noisy" (among others). They came out with Thunderous, saying "yeah, we're noisy, and we're not sorry!" If you listen to their entire catalog in order, you see their brand just grow into what we get now with God's Menu, Maniac, S-Class, and now Megaverse...and SO MANY of their songs unapologetically say "this is us, and we are awesome". I feel like battling back against the criticism has just made them stronger and more determined to succeed with their sound...which they totally are! This year has been AMAZING for them, and I predict 2024 will be even more so.
I love this song so much .. this and "The tortoise and the hare" have a special place in my heart .. if you haven't heard that one yet i think you will find the song structure and meaning really fascinating
The rapid pacing and changes used in this song can either make you feel hype or anxious. I listened almost exclusively to rock/alternative/metal before I got into kpop so I think it was easy for it feel like hype for me in the way a heavy breakdown does. I think for other people it may cause them to feel anxious. Paradoxically I think both feelings are a perfect reaction to the song. I think it’s more side effects about being an idol in the kpop industry than becoming an adult, but I could be off on that.
Ppl might call it noisy but it helps me with sleeping + headache and then I'm sad or need to realise stress I listen to this and get happy (srry my bad english I have dyslexia), I'm truly addicted to this song and mv
This is my very favorite SKZ song! There's something about the beat, the tempo... it just makes me so energized. I love it. And they're singing about mental health issues which is likely why some don't like it. But I adore it.
Side effects was my skz Stan moment. The album is based around Robert Frost's Road Not Taken. The teaser for side effects has a bit more context showing 2 groups of skz, one that gets on the bus and one that decides to take a different path. Yellow wood was the first album I bought now I have at least 1 of every album they've put out😅
This was the song that made me a STAY. I come from EDM music scene. This song convinced me that maybe Kpop had something to offer for my particular taste. I thrive on the chaos.
Blasting this song when i worked in a super understaffed kitchen back in late 2020 was the only way i survived, honestly. This is seriously one of my favorite Stray Kids songs. Very cathartic to listen to. Also the Robert Frost references in this album make me so happy mostly bc I'm from Indiana but also partially bc i just Like His Work A Lot.
At first i didn't like side effects cause i'm not into eletronic music, but it grew on me,now it 's EASILY one of my favorites! The message, the agitation in the song that expresses the agitation of the mind, really so good
I suffer with a lot of pain due to illnesses and this is my go to song when it gets too much. it just calms me down and gets my mind away from the pains that pain relief doesnt touch.
This is the song that actually solidified me as a stay. Before this there were a few of there songs I enjoyed, but I didn't dive in. Until this song and then goddamm was I hooked
This is a great song if you like electronic music, if you don't then it probably wasn't for you lol. I love this Stray kids 101/deep dive you're doing and can't wait for the Ateez one ❤
In Kingdom, they mentioned that this song is about dominance/being taken over/being controlled. And they reflected that in the choreo as well. It's like they are puppets being pulled by strings. Or (if you watch the performance video of this which has full choreo with more dancers), actually being controlled by other dancers. I'm a huge fan of EDM and this hit right up my alley. Fell in love with it. Headbanged to it more than I should have. Caused myself to get headaches because I headbanged too much. Then I saw a comment that this genre of music is actually very soothing for headaches. I managed to hold back my urge to bop as hard as I could and found that it does indeed help reduce headaches. Though I always thought it was a bit poetic that I would induce a headache on myself and the chorus is "My head hurts." It was painful and yet super satisfying lol.
i love this song, the chorus is like an auditory representation of a headache (in the best way possible). the genre isn't everyone's cup of tea and that's fine, but the hate they got for this back in 2019 was ridiculous :/ i really enjoyed your reaction as always though!! i'm glad you liked it!
Chan likes EDM a lot, pretty sure that was a big influence here as well as a lot of their other songs. I love EDM so it was comforting to me. He really is a musical genius to me.

I became a fan because of SIDE EFFECTS and SLUMP. With this song, Stray Kids, specifically Bang Chan, already showed an interest in other genres, aside from the typical "K-pop". Nothing wrong with a regular Kpop song, but the hate they got for this was just ridiculous, especially in Korea. I guess their ears and minds were not ready for this genius of a song. Their loss, our gain.
Side Effects is in my top 3 favorites with Stray Kids. In the song Cheese, Felix references this song. I would really like to see you react to "Top"ost
I need someone to examine the discography a bit. This song feels like they had hit a slump where they were conforming more to the industry standards, and this is them trying to remind themselves of what kind of music they really want to make (their own).
I genuenly cant understand how people hate it 😭 ig because it fits my music taste, but I loved it since first listen before even getting into the fandom
I'm a baby stay as it were but I had only heard this one as it populated in my playlist and liked it but hadn't watched the video or read the translation but I feel like seeing that adds to it? This is the track that grabbed me by the ear and yanked me into the fandom. Definitely in my top 5. Btw the screams are actually Seungmin 😂

This song and District 9 made me a Stay. Love everything about their "noise"
I really love this song. Some parts of it gets very loud, but that could be because of the headaches that comes with getting older.
I love this song so much. I think it resonated more with international fans than Korean because it's pretty different from Kpop expectations.
