This is one of the most random things I've watched in ages. I was completely captivated, entertained and charmed by this stranger. Thanks youtube algorithm.
Seriously - why was this recommended to me? Why did I click it? And why did I continue watching? I guess I need to learn. By the second time I felt an indication of rudeness coming from staff, my mood is ruined and I would probably leave. I'd refuse to bring money to a place or staff that treated me poorly. I can definitely learn from this video - can I put it into practice though? That's the hard part...
Yeah sometimes you think that your positivity doesn't make an impact, this really confirms that if you're a positive person, keep going, we are making a difference
He is charming, but he is also a pompous git in his own way. The coded wine snobbery (snobbery within snobbery), money being no object, the repulsive amount of food and alcohol consumed, the operatic laughs about the tablecloths the waitress is carrying at the end of the night.
Yes, agree. However their very generous order I am sure helped on top. 370 EUR just on wine they spent I belive. They probably left atleast 600-700 EUR between them, and this for 2 people in a brasserie/bistro type place.
As a half French waiter in Paris, this video doesn’t surprise me and I’m ashamed of it. Growing up in the south of France with my Aussie mom the amount of times you have these experiences in small French towns is bewildering, you dealt with it super well. Enjoyed the video a lot
Ya catch more flies with honey. If a server behaved like this in the States they could get stiffed on their tip; sometimes they get stiffed anyway but it's extremely declassé to leave less than 15%. With good service in a pricey restaurant--if they're splashing out on alcohol like this couple--a tip on a 2-top will easily be $80-100. Multiply that by 30+ covers (x15 +) and you're talking real money (of course, much of this is cash and never reported/taxed). You do have to cash out to bussers and the bar, but still... you can live a solid middle class life. And why not?
@@LeafBurrower Ah my bad, misunderstood what you meant there. Honestly, a waiter behaving like this won't last in France either. Waiters might be prone to being grumpy but if they are unprofessional they will get fired quickly, as that will drive away customers and owners don't like that. Personally I prefer not having people rely on tips to survive, and just having a set wage wherein if you do a bad job you just get kicked back to the employment agency.

it's pretty tragic tho how she mentioned if you're introverted, you'll have a very hard time. kudos to him for having that great extrovert charisma and her for coming out of her shell, but she brought up an excellent point that introverts don't deserve to be treated like trash simply because they're introverts and have trouble with social interactions. it's just as much a problem in the US as it is in Europe.

A lot of old people in the restaurants are rude toward the waiters in France. It's difficult for them and they tend to show the poker face/cold face when you arrive in a restaurant. And if they feel that you're not an ass, they lower their guard !

As a french person this really makes me sad and ashamed, wow. Insane that you had to work so hard for basic service. It sadly happens sometimes, and that is regardless of where you come from. Some restaurants are just really really bad.
@@WooSup111 I mean to be fair there are bad restaurants everywhere, Ive been to places outside France that were just as bad. And there's also the clickbait factor of falling into the stereotypes France being impolite or unwelcoming etc, which is mostly untrue. But the reality is a majority of restaurants have normal service like everywhere, and if you read some reviews before going to a place you won't get bad surprises.
I appreciate the kind service and welcoming attitude I received in so many places in Seoul, both while I visited and lived there. I can't even remember receiving rude service once. In Europe, on the other hand, within the tourist centers you can just forget about being treated nicely by the natives. My experience in the small cafes and restaurants was usually better, so I often tried to find the out-of-the-way places that only locals visited, the ones with reviews only in the country's native language. In those little places, the employees recommended menu items and attempted conversation. One way to find these places is to stay at an AirBnB and ask the hosts where people in the neighborhood usually meet.
So glad the YT algorithm brought me here. Although it's obvious how well you interact with others despite rude service, I'm really thankful for how thoughtful your wife is. @3:10 your wife mentioned that even though someone might speak perfect French or English, or even be from France, if they are introvert, it would be very difficult to be in this situation with rude server. It's so thoughtful that both of you acknowledge that there are all kinds of people and is important to be nice to everyone and give them benefit of doubt. Because you did so, you brought joy to everyone around you.
As a French, I am mortified, ashamed, that you had to go through this. Sadly it is a reality, many rude waiters in restaurants... You handled the situation like a king.

This is my 4th time watching this in the past week. There's a lot of lessons on human interaction here. I would've been tempted to be rude back to the waitress, and just leave, but I guess this man knows his way around people haha. Really cool reaction from this couple.
Remember though, this is his channel and he's on camera. This was knowingly filmed. Sorry to say I felt a bit uneasy that someone having a bad day became almost the premise of this entire video, especially the commentary from the wife. Laughing and seeming cool about it, yet in Korean providing commentary and analysis in real time throughout the meal. I find it an over-grandiose ego. But I'm new to this channel and maybe the wife is an anthropologist who observes cultures deeply for a living. Just some of my immediate thoughts.
I'm guessing this is an Asian thing? Where I'm from, people usually walk away from rudeness if they can't tolerate it instead of being rude back at them. I had an experience witnessing an angry yelling American tourist in one small local restaurant here. He wasn't only yelling to the waitress that he wasn't a beggar to be eating cold food. He threw a plate of fried chicken on the ground because it was not hot. It was the most shocking thing I had ever witnessed in a local restaurant. Perhaps because it's very rare here among locals so we don't see much of anything like that. Perhaps he also didn't know that most small restaurants here have self service menus and they're usually already cold if you go to the restaurants in the afternoon because it was cooked before midday.
I am not going to lie watching you guys talk and socialize is kind of nice to listen to as an introvert who can't start conversations on my own it's cathartic sort of watching you guys.

Pretty powerful stuff witnessed here. Their presence and attitude had a visible effect on the waitress as well as the other guest. Stay positive folks
Honestly, that's life. If you can just stay positive with a good attitude, it makes everyone happier.
Magical to witness. :) certainly inspired to come into work with a great attitude today 😊
I was wondering. The worst service I've ever had in my life was in Arles. Beautiful city though.
@@LeafBurrowerthis is in France, there's no tipping culture.
@@Popatoh My point exactly
@@LeafBurrower Ah my bad, misunderstood what you meant there.
Honestly, a waiter behaving like this won't last in France either. Waiters might be prone to being grumpy but if they are unprofessional they will get fired quickly, as that will drive away customers and owners don't like that.
Personally I prefer not having people rely on tips to survive, and just having a set wage wherein if you do a bad job you just get kicked back to the employment agency.
This couple is so healthy. They compliment eachother well, so well that they don’t allow rudeness to dampen their spirits 🥰
I would never let a French person bring me down. My ex girlfriend visited France and got head lice. Then when her friends came to visit the USA from France they gave her head

it's pretty tragic tho how she mentioned if you're introverted, you'll have a very hard time. kudos to him for having that great extrovert charisma and her for coming out of her shell, but she brought up an excellent point that introverts don't deserve to be treated like trash simply because they're introverts and have trouble with social interactions. it's just as much a problem in the US as it is in Europe.

A lot of old people in the restaurants are rude toward the waiters in France. It's difficult for them and they tend to show the poker face/cold face when you arrive in a restaurant. And if they feel that you're not an ass, they lower their guard !

I’ve heard France especially can be like this. Every time I’ve been in Italy even with my broken Italian, almost every waiter I’ve had seems almost excited to explain the dishes to you. Very different experience. This video just shows what a great attitude (and language skills) can do for you! Much love!
It's a french thing. Worst country I've ever been to.
Ya France is definitely the worst, they are known worldwide for this
Yeah in Italy we tend to love when foreigners try to speak our language as it’s a really nice gesture
france is known to be snooty there's something wrong with their culture
I really don't want to make it sound like I'm bashing French people but I've yet to meet someone who was from France that I actually enjoyed their company. From working at hotels to retail to just meeting new people, French people always made everything very difficult.
As a french born and raised in France, your french is excellent and I hate when people are being rude with strangers. That being said, not speaking a language should never be an excuse for people to be rude.
What a couple, not taking things too serious even when the service is quite shit to be honest. Just smiling and happy with funny conversations and making the day of all the other guests better as well.. wow if this is not the dream to live life with someone like this I don’t know what is.
Quite shit 😂?? Dude the waiter is literally devil

This is the power of smiling, joking around a little and being able to talk to other people well. I wish to be as charismatic as this guy some day😅
Hey, if you happen to read this reply, here's a tip: fake it till you make it. I said this to myself often and it genuinely happened! :) I used to be extremely shy and introverted, and though I'm still an introvert, making small talk with people, joking around, taking things lightly, and going up to strangers is no longer an issue at all! It took a few years to get to this point but imagine putting on a costume or a mask, and roleplaying this character. It eventually isn't a character anymore, it's part of you. :)

This is my 4th time watching this in the past week. There's a lot of lessons on human interaction here. I would've been tempted to be rude back to the waitress, and just leave, but I guess this man knows his way around people haha. Really cool reaction from this couple.
Right I’ve learnt so much too
Remember though, this is his channel and he's on camera.

@@octopu5ie you don’t need to be an anthropologist to recognize rude behavior, and wonder why someone is being rude. On camera or off.
