I knew what I was in for when I read the title. Funny how much I find myself jumping to the end of a video, only to find that I should have down-voted the thing without bothering to watch any of it. ~~~ And, what a messy hack. There's no reason to cut open a capacitor to get a reflector.
Я в детстве игрался кинопроектором и там такая же лампа только ещё мощнее. 12v/100w. Две штуки спалил именно по причине отпечатков пальца. Выходит из строя от перегрева моментально.
If it's quartz then true. Does not look like it's getting sufficient voltage. The benefit of quartz running as designed to run is the filament vapors don't deposit on it rapidly.

It is called using a hot air heat gun no need to worry about what "NATO Professors" ( Of what? do or don't know ). Also, the guy making the video knows nothing about not touching the glass of QH lamps as the grease in his fingers causes them to have a shortened life and should be cleaned with alcohol-based solvent before applying current. please inform the "professor" for me! As a mere Electrical engineer.
I'm sure that NATO has several professors who consult for them. But this aside, there's no such person as a "NATO Professor". NATO is a treaty organization, not an educational institution.
If you google "nato professor" and then search videos, you'll see a whole bunch of videos by a whole bunch of different people saying "Even NATO professors don't know....".... Like it's a thing. One fool used it, so the others copied, either as a joke/meme or just out of ignorance. It's a many videos by several channels too.
NATO professor my arse. They would commission the manufacturing facility to use focussed infrared light - a decades old technique that you've just discovered, albeit, in a really rather crude and unfocussed way where other components are also unintentionally subjected to heat. If you ever get so far as to consult a component datasheet, you'll find the manufacturer temperature profile of heat over time for each component (it's an integrating area under the curve thing) and you'll soon discover that you're probably exceeding the rated profiles. By the way, we can overlook your use of the incorrect crimpers on those terminals but handling the crystal glass of the halogen with your greasy fingers and not wiping it clean with isopropyl alcohol before energising it was just downright dumbness.

I realize halogen bulbs do get hot. However, I honestly doubt they can melt solder on the other side of a PC board to remove feedthrough IC chips. You showed removing DIP ICs being removed. But they are soldered on the other side of the circuit board... IDK
Well, despite all the criticisms here, I think it's a great soldering tool, I wouldn't have guessed that a halogen bulb could get hot enough (the video could've been trimmed down though). And NATO professor? Lol, seriously!?

I feel sorry for that capacitor being sacrificed for such a pointless video. I wonder if the compromised crystal glass on that halogen bulb could work long enough to set the wood on fire?

I don't think this makes enough heat. Or the wood would have caught fire. The zener he accidentally bumped the tweezers against didn't budge, although it was also exposed to the light. The board was initially dry and there is suddenly flux on it later. The bulb is probably only 20 watts. With higher wattage you should wipe it down with alcohol so that the greater heat doesn't degrade the quartz glass.
are the chips and components still functional?, if so, i thought "what's the purpose of this device until you showed how it can de-solder circuit board parts with a radiant light source>>
Not much of a professor if they couldn't think of this but then, was it an electronic engineer or a professor of ancient history for NATO ? This is just pitiful BS.

Goed idee.
Hi, donot crimp , do solder on lugs with legs of lamp. It will be easy.
Readers - DO NOT follow this stupid advice. This will fail quickly, as will the subject bodged lampholder shown in the video.
The leads out of the lamp get as hot as the incandescent filament inside. So hot the solder will melt. Further, Heat conducts down to the flexible cables and melts the insulation.
There is a reason why light fittings that use these halogen globes use ceramic holders (not plastic or timber) that have high temp crimps (the copper ones used here are low temp application only) connecting to high temp cable (usually a woven glass tube placed over PTFE insulated wire). These HT cables are around 200mm long that then connect to standard PVC copper cable (house wiring).
The EASY and only correct way to do this is use the proper pre-wired lampholder. The lamp simply plug in (good considering the short service life of these lamps) Any Electrical Wholesaler will stock them because the damn thing burn out and need replacement when using halogen lamps - they are as common as dirt, band new or salvaged from an upgraded light fitting.
