    Not a Whovian (I feel like they're here just for David Tennant) but his acting is great. He's very entertaining especially when Hamlet goes mad. The whole company took a play that's difficult to understand, made it a little modern and added a competent cast. I feel like this is great to show anyone who has a hard time understanding how a Shakespeare play might look. I kept the book handy while watching this, it helped out.

      Yes, I did like him in Doctor Who, but I also loved him in this because he's also amazing at playing creepy sociopaths. I'm also here for Patrick Stewart. Don't jump to stupid conclusions.😑

      As a retired theater reviewer, I’ve seen umpteen Hamlets and find this one far and away the best. David Tennant opens the dialogue up and uses such interesting body language to create the whole. He’s aided by a director with a unique vision and an excellent cast, some better than others. But where is the last act?

      David Tennant is a brilliant actor. I have loved him since Takin' Over the Asylum. Sadly I never got to watch him in any Theater production not taped since I do not have acces to Britens Theater world. But in no way am i surprised that he pulls that off brilliantly too.
      Whovians are ok. If the show teacher them about Davids brilliancy 👍 to The Doctor for that.

    DT was fantastic in this performance. One of the few performances of the Dane that nearly brought me to tears. Patrick Stewart as well was uncanny...just like the 1980 performance in the same role. Applause to all.

    WOAH!
    I believe I better understand and heard Hamlet for the first time with this group of people and the director. So grateful it's recorded. Masterclass performance from David Tennant, Sir Stewart.
    What an incredible experience.

    Not ashamed to say I'm here because I'm a #Trekker and #Whovian. I remember how his (#DavidTennant 's) stage run sold out in record time and how audience members were prohibited from bringing #DoctorWho paraphernalia into the theatre. I just found out today that someone filmed this! YES!!!

    This is making my Eng 461 Shakespeare class so much better. Tennant is brilliant in his shifts from madness and torment to foolery and comedy. Davies (Polonius) is freaking hilarious too.

    I was lucky enough to see the staged version this was based on, at the RSC Courtyard theatre in Stratford, it was SO Good!
    It had a lot more humour than this filmed version, the characters don’t spark off each other as well. But I guess that’s the difference between live theatre and location filmed. Wish they’d just filmed it at the theatre, it was just an experience, SO Good!!

    I didn't think that this would cook as much as it did, but the first 17 minutes EXACTLY have me on the edge of my seat and invested in every word. The acting is phenomenal so far, and (despite my previous assumptions about Shakespeare's language, which is actually why I've put watching plays of his off so long,) the story is comprehensible! The talent is outstanding, and falling in love with Shakespeare's works and the passion that goes into recreating and performing them.

      I do love Branagh. But, I think this cast has more understated realistic acting than that one did. This has surpassed Branagh's as my favorite. As far as Dr. Who, I only watched the ones Tennant was in because it's usually too cheesy for my taste, but he bring a gravitas that makes it enjoyable.

    • @cynthiamartin2021
      @cynthiamartin2021 10 лет назад

      I see what you mean about the casting. There were several actors and performances I didn't care for in Branagh's Hamlet. I also really love Doran's I.iii and that Claudius and Hamlet Sr. are twins; this makes for a more sympathetic and developed Gertrude. I still feel that Tennant's Hamlet is superficial, though. It's like he's being quirky and weird for the sake of being quirky and weird. Yes, Hamlet does act mad, but he is also ridiculously thoughtful, methodical, literary, and intellectual, and I just don't see this in Tennant's performance. He's got the mad part down okay, but Hamlet is more than that, which Branagh perfectly embodies. I also can't forgive the adapters for rearranging 'to be or not to be' to come before 'O what a rouge and peasant slave am I'. On principle, I'm not against rearranging lines. However, this particular adjustment does not work at all, at least for this film. It's too early and there is not enough plot or character development at this point to do this speech justice so early on. It makes Hamlet come off as some annoying, moody, emo teenager. Perhaps that was what the film was going for, though...
