      They were thinking Horsepower was all they needed. 🤷‍♂️🙄 They got SUPER lucky that the first one spun them around. If it had left them still facing out there’s no way they had time for an about face before that next set wave took em out.

    Just in case anyone is interested, that is a Arancia inshore lifeboat or IRB. They are incredibly capable soft hulled boats that are specifically designed for surf.
    To crew one of these you need to be a qualified beach lifeguard, and hold crew and coxswain quals and renew them bi annually.
    The fact that they are even sat in that boat meant that they knew exactly what they were doing.
    There are times that being on are bar is terrifying. The driver did the right thing.

    Wait for a break in the sets and go through a little white water, works like a charm. Ride back in on the back side of a wave. Whats really scary in a boat that size is cross seas.

  • @darylwegrzyn4053
    @darylwegrzyn4053 5 лет назад +17

    Quite possibly the first BP Rescue IRB that has actually showed a good piece of boat handling. Best way to cross a bar observe, analyse, observe again looking for repetition in the wave patterns then act accordingly.

    Please everybody let's spread the word. Outboards are built to be driven by sitting on the starboard side and holding the tiller with the left hand. That's why the tiller comes out to the left and the throttle twists like a motorcycle throttle. if you sit on the port side, the tiller sticks into your butt and legs and the throttle twist is backwards. Your arm it twisted behind you instead of straight out to the side like it should be. This is just basic outboard 101. I know it's a free country but please do yourself a favour and try driving from the starboard side. You'll love it once you get the hang of the proper position. I promise. You'll have much better control and it's way more comfortable.
