Which, now that you mention how much they mostly *don't* reference the art style differences, stands out as a little extra strange. But maybe he's just so much weirder than everyone else that it's more noticeable in-universe.
They do it a handful of times that I remember - in the first movie, Scorpion mentions that Spider-Ham is "some kind of cartoon" (but seems to think it's more amusing than anything super unusual), then Gwen references paper Vulture, and I think someone calls out Lego universe or Lego spiderman with a specific reference to that style (whereas they don't call Gwen "Pastel Spider-Woman" by comparison). My theory for Beyond the Spiderverse is that when a dimension loses its “canon” it’s not destroyed but instead becomes a non-Spiderman centric world. And their interdimensional devices only let them go to worlds where Spiderman is the main character (similar to Rick and Morty) So to save his father, Miles chooses to be removed from the “Spider Matrix” and he’ll never be able to see Peter, Gwen, or the others again, making his happy ending still tragic.
I don't know if they can just wave away the implications of canon events without making Miguel and Jessica and like every Spider person ever seem like total evil jackasses. @@alexanderford3831 Yeah, I really like most of the MCU stuff, but the first Spider-Verse is easily my favourite super hero movie of all time, and it's not even close. For them to pull that off once was incredible - for them to do it back to back is almost unbelievable. It really goes to show what creatives can do if a) you get people with a genuine passion for the project (not just hiring big names for the free marketing clout) and b) presumably if the studio execs butt out and don't micromanage everything (I'm assuming that's the case, because both movies take the kind of risks studio execs really don't seem to like any more). On the second point, I was actually really worried going in, that maybe the first movie was so good because Sony didn't care enough to get too involved, and that its success might mean they'd want to take the reins more on the sequel, but thankfully whatever happened, they managed to nail it twice.
Wasn't there dialogue in NWH of AG Peter becoming vengeful and cruel and having to be pulled back, as well as TM Peter talking about making his relationship with MJ work and moving forward?

I wonder if i will enjoy it more watching it a second time? Also the gwen mellow drama didn’t do it for me🤷 also the movie gave me a head ach and the audio was hard to make out in some parts. But I liked it
Given that the main day to day purpose of the elite spider squad seems to be stopping villains who've slipped into the wrong dimensions, I find it incredibly funny that they just left Tom Holland out to dry in no way home.
I think the implication is that along with Miguel infiltrating that one universe, the first spiderverse, no way home, and any other multiverse spider related thing led to him forming that spider society thing.
It seems like Doctor Strange may have already made such a mess of things with his spell that Miguel doesn't want to risk tampering with things in that universe right now (and maybe things are on-track canon-wise so they have no reason to interfere, after all the Peter in that universe has already had two death-related tragedies _and_ the pain of his friends forgetting he even exists, so if the pain is part of the process, he's probably going to work out fine). It was at least fun that they called out the mess Strange made.
I think it's possible that they did get involved with the No Way Home disaster, but there's no record of it in the movie No Way Home because they were super stealthy. That's my head canon for now, anyway, unless they give us a better explanation in part 2.
I'll never forget my theater experience, there wasn't any cheering or anything like that, but the ending got the entire audience to freak out and just talk throughout the entire credits. I loved that since I feel like we were robbed of that impact with Infinity War since everyone knew it was a 2 parter, but not here so the reactions were genuine. Also I can see why Mason said the story was just fine, but I actually really liked that the main through line of the plot was two super powered teens dealing with relationship issues which is always the core of Spider-Man and is even more impressive that this is a Spider-Man movie where Peter Parker appears for like 20 minutes. This is one of the most successful new generation of a franchise I can think of. I mean just compare this movie to Rey Skywalker.
also, i think the movie had a resolution, but not for miles, for gwen, miles already had his character development in the first movie, so they took the chance to give it to gwen. i also love how we see that gwen isnt infalible, she is at the worst point of her life, unable to deal with the pressure and instead of trying to figure it out, she simply decides to give up and flee from her problems. we can also see that the reason she is unable to make friends is due to her own choice, there are many people around her who do want the best for her, and wants to be friends, but she is closed up to them. so we can see the effect miles has on her, and more importantly, is only by seeing him feel betrayed by her that she understood that she cant keep doing this.
Slight spoiler for spider-verse... ...Maso asks why doesn't Miles go invisible when they're chasing him, but he actually explains that when they're on the rocket... train... thing - he had to let them see him because he deliberately lured the spider-folk away. It was always his plan to go back and use the dimension goober to get back home. He probably just thought he had more chance of doing this if there weren't a hundred spider-peeps hanging around (and he actually does go invisible in the scene when he goes back, so it's not just an oversight - I like that they actually remember he has powers that he can use to solve problems).
This random hicktown rivalry that has nothing to do with anything spilling over into a random podcast on the other side of the world is basically the only reason i tune in

I've watched Vin go from guy selling robots, to actually being cool for 20 minutes, to being a pompous jackass faceplanting himself at every opportunity and it's kinda wonderful. Never really liked him in anything but Pitch black ( I don't count Groot, it's 3 words.)
Can't believe James just said "how many more months are we gonna do this" re the Maryland stuff. The same James who started saying westworld in the theme in the summer of 1680 and maintained it until the heat death of the universe? Snake eyes next week James?? My goodness
Comic Spider-Man is in both movies. Peter B. Parker is supposed to be comic Spider-Man (Universe 616), but he's the version if Marvel hadn't screwed him up with One More Day. So MJ gives birth to May Day, he's in his late thirties like comic Parker should be by now, and he's a total schlub who keeps screwing up but sees the best in everybody.
so he isnt the 616, only a "based on". or another variant. if he is, but is diferent, that means he isnt. that's the whole point of it being a multiverse, a small diference between some of them, a massive one for others. there's even a spiderman from MvC games, and another from the sony game.
One thing I don’t care about the movie is in the first movie the other Spider-Man glitched a lot, because they were out of their universe. But in this movie, I don’t think they did that at all.
I think my movie theater was having problems because I could barely make out what spider punk was saying because the score was playing so loud over like 80% of his dialogue.
the only downside to this movie being phenomenal is that the absolute idiot hacks that make the live action sony films think this means they can do anything right, we don’t want a sony-made live action miles, it’s going to be hot garbage just like everything else
@@Kango234 i literally refuse to ever see their live action films in theaters i don’t want to give them any money they just taint great characters and stories and blacklist them from being relevant. it’s a shame that their animated ventures and the playstation games are so good 😂 sony should never have ownership over such an important character
I reckon for the next one. It all goes wrong, they loose everything and they have to find earth prime/o.g Spider-Man to help fix it. Maybe madame web in the process. Can't wait till march.
My one problem with the movie is that if he's the original anomaly, and wasn't supposed to be Spider-Man, then why are they holding him to the same standard of letting his dad die? It's no longer a Canon timeline anymore.

On the second point, I was actually really worried going in, that maybe the first movie was so good because Sony didn't care enough to get too involved, and that its success might mean they'd want to take the reins more on the sequel, but thankfully whatever happened, they managed to nail it twice.
I wouldnt say that. No Way Home was actually a complete story. Across the Spiderverse is half a movie.
It all felt way less self-indulgent to me. The fun Spider-Man references were incorporated really well.
The multiverse allows you to really look at the core of a character and I hope they focus on that idea while they inevitably milk the multiverse
Yeet, the ending got me so bad, I need to watch the next one asap
Wasn't there dialogue in NWH of AG Peter becoming vengeful and cruel and having to be pulled back, as well as TM Peter talking about making his relationship with MJ work and moving forward?
Yall should finally review Snake Eyes and just review the 1998 Nic Cage film.
I didnt know it was gonna go into a part 2 , so as it was wrapping up I was like”jeeze this movie is taking forever…so I was kinda not expecting it to end when it did. I wonder if i will enjoy it more watching it a second time? Also the gwen mellow drama didn’t do it for me🤷 also the movie gave me a head ach and the audio was hard to make out in some parts. But I liked it
The working title for SMATU was Easter Egg: The Movie
Fast Furious is Universal and Transformers is Paramount
The director of Mutant Mayhem is the codirector of The Mitchells vs the Machines which is from the same producers and studio of Spiderverse
The part about a Pixar movie focused on feet ... thats top notch stuff, 100% on rotten tomatoes on first weekend.
honestly amazed that nick and james didnt know that hobbie was spider-punk in the comics too
I'll never forget my theater experience, there wasn't any cheering or anything like that, but the ending got the entire audience to freak out and just talk throughout the entire credits.
Maso's guillotine needs to be a recurring segment.
Man I loved Jungle Cruise and thought Rock was great in it.
How was i not aware of this podcast and just emergency awesome
Welcome to the Weekly Wackadidoo family
Ya dickhead!
Nah, you're cool mate
Of all the writers strike delays, nothing has made me upset until I heard about the Community movie. Please start paying people!!!!
1:11:17 the chief wigum line was funny
Slight spoiler for spider-verse...
...Maso asks why doesn't Miles go invisible when they're chasing him, but he actually explains that when they're on the rocket... train... thing - he had to let them see him because he deliberately lured the spider-folk away. It was always his plan to go back and use the dimension goober to get back home. He probably just thought he had more chance of doing this if there weren't a hundred spider-peeps hanging around (and he actually does go invisible in the scene when he goes back, so it's not just an oversight - I like that they actually remember he has powers that he can use to solve problems).
James and Maso on party quirks would be the greatest piece of content on the entire internet (James as the guesser of course)
I'm so ready for the next one.
Across the spider-verse is cinema gold.
I can't hear Mason say: "I don't know." without hearing Old Rey Skywalker.
Omg that's such a good video that I watched all of
The implications of how this universe works are staggering, every Spider-man should be dealing with an existential crisis.
This random hicktown rivalry that has nothing to do with anything spilling over into a random podcast on the other side of the world is basically the only reason i tune in
SPOILER:
Actually, I believe spider 42 was actually meant for universe 42's Miles Morales.
the flashback/ memory thing he sees show the spider going for him. so yeah.
I listened to this when it came out 5 months ago and just now watched the movie.. I completely forgot everything you guys had said so i immediately came here to re-listen...
Your sons rage is totally understandable and justified. Fuck me, i forgot it was a 2 part story and now I am also fucking pissed. God damn it, its so fucking good i just need to have the rest of the story NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it's not fucking March either.
Maso is right about Toy Story 2, even though it was miraculous that they found a copy, they did indeed still make a lot of changes before they released it
Never had as much muttering and giggling during a film from the crowd and I was completely okay with it.
Whoot whoot here finally!
My kids were furious about it being a two parter. It was hilarious.
How did Hoby know to tell Miles to use his palms when doing the venom blast?
And in the spots flash back we see Miles from 42 was going to be bit
Hoby knew because he shares that power with Miles and he's lived with it longer. That was very clear in the movie.
If Super Mario Bros was the Citizen Kane of animated films, than Across the Spider-Verse would easily be considered the Casablanca of our times.
I’m 100% convinced Tom Cruise is prepared to detonate (1) of his own nukes to get more IMAX screens
Tom Cruise laughing maniacally and riding a nuke, Dr.-Strangelove-style
I've watched Vin go from guy selling robots, to actually being cool for 20 minutes, to being a pompous jackass faceplanting himself at every opportunity and it's kinda wonderful. Never really liked him in anything but Pitch black ( I don't count Groot, it's 3 words.)
I love the MD vs VA debate has been going on for over a month now. MD > VA
Can't believe James just said "how many more months are we gonna do this" re the Maryland stuff. The same James who started saying westworld in the theme in the summer of 1680 and maintained it until the heat death of the universe? Snake eyes next week James?? My goodness
Uncanny X force has one of if not the best comic book death NO SPOILERS but nightcrawler teleports something into something
Unfortunately Mason is correct, the version of Toy Story 2 that miraculously got saved was later mostly scrapped and they remade the movie anyway
I was on the fence but the emotional scenes are insane
Tom Cruise about to ride on the back of a nuke, laugh maniacally as he drops it on IMAX Corp HQ
The spider was supposed to bite Miles On Earth-42. You see it in the movie in the spot flashbacks.
I Missed it, but why is Sin City 2 a deep Weekly Planet reference?
Weekly Defenders of the planet podcast🎉
FUN FACT: there's a holden commodore cameo in this movie
my theater had it to where I couldn't hear the dialogue or really anything as well as I would hope.
Now I desperately need Harrison Ford to do Hot Ones
And he has to do it high.
@Maso, I am also very "wheel out here guillotines ya"
Cast Harrison Ford as Joe bidden in a movie. Speaking that into existence
One thing I don’t care about the movie is in the first movie the other Spider-Man glitched a lot, because they were out of their universe. But in this movie, I don’t think they did that at all.
They explained that in the film. The bracelets kept them tethered to their current realities.
@@tommaddi oh yeah, I forgot about that
I think my movie theater was having problems because I could barely make out what spider punk was saying because the score was playing so loud over like 80% of his dialogue.
the only downside to this movie being phenomenal is that the absolute idiot hacks that make the live action sony films think this means they can do anything right, we don’t want a sony-made live action miles, it’s going to be hot garbage just like everything else
That is my exact thought as well.
@@Kango234 i literally refuse to ever see their live action films in theaters i don’t want to give them any money they just taint great characters and stories and blacklist them from being relevant. it’s a shame that their animated ventures and the playstation games are so good 😂 sony should never have ownership over such an important character
Sick just came to check if u guys did an episode on this yet and it's here 2 hours ago sick
Really having trouble finding Maso’s ep of Dice Paper Roll, if anyone could help me please
Southland Tales 2... DO IT, THE ROCK.
I reckon for the next one. It all goes wrong, they loose everything and they have to find earth prime/o.g Spider-Man to help fix it. Maybe madame web in the process. Can't wait till march.
Are you telling me I can’t here
🎶 shootin up ya butthole🎶
In the intros anymore!!!
Dang it!
It's bloody Monday you Weekly Wackadoos!
I have one problem with across the spider verse and it’s that miles does not try to use his venom powers/bio electricity on the spot even once.
Yea I guess he didn’t
My one problem with the movie is that if he's the original anomaly, and wasn't supposed to be Spider-Man, then why are they holding him to the same standard of letting his dad die? It's no longer a Canon timeline anymore.
I just want to see Dom fist pound optimus prime and say “family” insert low tone linkin park song with Dom and Optimus epilogue word for word lol
Grab that Jim! See you next week!
I think it's fair to say Quebec drivers drive like Parisian drivers: they don't care if you live or die.
But when it comes to bad at actual driving, I think we in Vancouver, BC win. Half an inch of snow and most of us are fucked.
The rest of the country mocks us, and they all laugh when we have a blizzard, 'cause the City doesn't have a clue how to cope.
(We've had it easy most of the year most years for decades, but Climate Change is about to really dose us with reality. Winters are getting colder, summers are getting hotter.)
I didn’t realize that Avi Arad was still around.
