"My Pride" but i animated the lipsync

- this is without a doubt one of the stupider things i've done. By the time I realized a much more efficient way of doing this I was already mostly done and it was too late. This took an absolutely ludicrous amount of time to do, not because of the actual lipsync, which was easy, I love doing lipsync, but the coverup, because its like... the original video has tweening and camera work!! so thats why a lot of bits look really floaty or jerky... At this point I could keep tweaking it and tweaking it and tweaking it, but it's basically never going to be perfect, and, like, seriously, I've spent an embarrassing amount of time working on this incredibly silly project.
also i have no idea why the colours are slightly different. i really dont. I did this entirely in CSP and it CAN load video, but god knows it doesn't want to.
Anyway I was originally going to cheekily title this "My Pride season 2 job application" half seriously and half because its funny, but Tribble's recent video makes me feel like thats a little poor taste. I'd love to work on My Pride or a similar project, but I also always think artists matter more than the art and if the art is causing you harm, its time to stop drawing and take a break.
ALSO I WANT TO BE SUPER SUPER CLEAR ABOUT THIS.... i am very pro no lipsync in my pride. This is an indie project with what im sure is an extremely limited budget and tribble spoke about the insane hours she was working on it in addition to that. Lipsync takes a long time. it's a time sink. I think 90% of the time the lack of lipsync doesn't break my immersion- ever seen Homeward Bound? back in the day we used to watch talking animal movies with live action cats and dogs who didnt even open their mouths or look at the camera lol! -and that time and energy was better utilized in other areas. So I super don't want to see anyone like "wow this just goes to show they should have done the lipsync smh..." like it will make me very sad and feel like my little fan project is being used to put down the thing that i like. you will make me sad :( i think the lipsync adds a hell of a lot, but I also think doing the entire thing frame by frame would too, but that doesnt mean its reasonable lol.

I completely agree that the animators working on the actual project shouldn't have to lypsinc - it's such a timesink and the lack of it has never affected my viewing of it negatively. But this is still a very impressive feat you have managed to pull off! I love it!!
Homeward Bound was one of my favourite movies growing up, and none of the characters move their mouths lol. theyre just live action animals with voices dubbed over them. You really gotta work within your limitations and like, seriously, lipsync takes so long and so much precision that I'm sure it would have made an already difficult production way harder on the artists, or it would have affected the quality in other ways. have to spend more time on the lipsync, no longer have it available for frame by framing really cool scenes that needed it. i think it was the right call, i just thought it would also be cool to see it with lipsync too. just not like. the whole show lol

@@emilyallison7516 Why would you even bother saying this except to boost your own ego? Does it make you feel better to find something "easy" that someone else doesn't? Does making other people seem smaller make you feel bigger? Why would you say "not to be mean", unless, on some level, you were aware of how mean you were being?
I recommend listening to speakers like Alan Watts and Eckhart Tolle, they talk a lot on ego and how to go beyond it.

Ok I get WHY the creators of My Pride didn’t lip sync the whole thing but I think it would be cool if it was.

I personally find it weird looking because most other movement happening is little fbf and mostly simple tweens, iunno it feels unbalanced to me. When i first watched the episodes i wanted to see it lipsynched but now that i saw what it looks like im quite glad they did not
This scene filled me with anger.
She did all that work, he helped him, he knew something was wrong.
I wish she listened to him when he said her brother changed for the worse.
I'm more sad that the siblings relationship has been greatly strained.
It blends in so well! I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. When nothing is yelling while challenging him in particular must have been difficult and yet looks so natural
It was one of the only parts that actually took me out of it because it just felt so big but it felt noticeable to me the mouth was wrong for some reason which is why I wanted to do this so badly. I had to sketch like a ton of different ways lol i think I did pretty well but boy was it tricky!

Yooo this is fantastic and I feel like given the budget and more time this is what I imagine my pride could of been , I love both your edit and the original just just the amount of effort to match the time it took the artists and animators respectively
wow that added detail of the two lionesses looking over when blue one commented on the challenge roar, clear signs of effort and attention lovely stuff
I waffled on that for awhile, if I wanted to do it because it wasn't lipsync and I didn't want to just insert stuff lol, but it just felt like it added so much life to the shot when I did a quick sketch test and I think it really does help the whole thing pop with just a little bit of extra work. That's actually my favourite shot from this, I think it's the smoothest and looks the most natural and as close to unedited as I get.
@@Draikinator oh i do adore it too, its a small bit of movement that makes it flow better. since there's a lot more movement in all the other shots compared to that one.

I have a love/hate relationship to this series. I like the characters and premise a lot, but man is it such a huge mouthpiece for toxic positivity. The series could be improved, so I hope that if there is ever a continuation, that they take the criticisms to heart and improve the story/characters.
I think it's got issues work talking about, but I also think it's gotten a disproportionate amount of harsh critique for those issues, an issue that pretty much anything with lgbt narratives has. I think the issues it has have kind of been discussed enough and I don't really feel like theres anything I need to add. its really incredible to see an independent project succeed on this level and I think that's crazy valuable.
@@Draikinator I agree about the disproportionate amount of harsh criticisms. It kind of infuriates me that people take a magnifying glass to independent projects, while mega corporations are free to be blatantly bad/toxic without much repercussion.

Not to mention this wasn’t written by PROFESSIONALS and it’s only season 1. A lot of the criticism is warranted but a lot of it is delivered in unnecessarily hostile ways and some of it is just straight up nitpicking. Plus there is so much room for improvement and at this point there’s really no telling where the show is about to go. Who knows, maybe the toxic positivity will be addressed and fixed up later in the series? Overall I don’t know if I’m gonna keep watching the show myself, but I don’t understand why some people are like hate bombing it yk

Animating a lip sync like this is one thing, but flawlessly editing it into the animation and somehow making it seem natural (in my opinion) is what really makes it magical for me

It’s not bad and it’s impressive on your part. I do like that they went with the original not lip sync because it just flows well with their animation style. It allows to really animate the emotions on these characters even if the lip sync isn’t there.

I think with out lip syncing animation I get the vibe of how real lion’s communicate. Body language.
But the lip syncs is a nice touch

The editing must have been a real pain, the lypsyncing looks magnificent, they should hire you if they ever decided to do this!
This is so amazing. I think you're an amazing animator and I like it a lot better this way (No offense to TribbleofDoom and everyone else that worked on it). I specifically like the part where the one lioness says "A no-mane's challenge roar?" That was animated so beautifully as well as "Oh, come off it sister. You'll feel better once you calm down." Thank you for making this

Yeah lip sink can take a ton of time and effort and its a lot easier to tell when you messed up then when you did it right but this is an incredible job
