      It was very wrong what the male did. When I was in Ballet the girls passed me around like a beach ball. I'm not going to sit here and say "I didn't like it." This happens to straight males in dance but of course it is strictly forbidden for heterosexual males to say this.

    This is so so so SOOO important. This broke my heart because the place of her dreams became her worst nightmare but it's also really important because she shows how she got back up and spoke up for herself, her coworkers, and women everywhere about how all systems in the world need to change for the protection and human rights of every person.

      As a straight male who danced ballet you are always heavily outnumbered by beautiful girls and so you obviously have to be very conscientious about extracurricular activities with the girls. You cannot forget she is a lady. Given the discipline the art instills in Cavaliers I am very surprised and also very disappointed a male dancer would act this way.

    Thank you for highlighting this issue. Female dancers work incredibly hard, have done so since childhood and are always told how easy it is to be replaced. It's long past time that dancers in general receive more respect. To have male dancers treating female dancers this way is a gross violation of these women in every possible way. To know that men affiliated with the company, at the Board level and others such as the Artistic Director, engaged in this as well is shocking. Isn't it time that all men receive better education? This toxic male culture has to end. These men know better, they just prefer behaving like jerks. And yes that word "jerk" is a very sanitized version of what these men are. Real men don't behave this way. And yes, Alexandra's correct: this is hatred.

      Read Gelsey Kirkland's book Dancing On My Grave. It gives you can insight not only on her personally demons, but on the ballet culture. She had relationships with several prominent male dancers and it talks about a negative undercurrent within the company back then!

    The fact that Chase was verbally abusive and drunk on a regular basis SHOULD have been a clue to Alexandra......but alot of women/people ignore things that happen in relationships and brush certain actions over of their lovers/friends. There seems to be a continuous undercurrent of abusive behavior in the NYCB particularly, going back from Gelsey Kirkland's book Dancing On My Grave when she danced in the 70s. I pray that it finally stops! I also pray Alexandra dances again-somewhere else of course!

      She clearly said that it was her first relationship, and a psychologically abusive one. She probably didn't realise that it was abnormal behaviour until the trigger. Most people don't realise it from inside these emotional cages they are live in until something really bad happens, or they get help from the outside. She clearly couldn't get help from the colleagues who were also abused the situation...

      Time for the women to take responsibility? Really? How about the perpetrators, the men? They need to take responsibility for their perverted and clandestine actions. Chase Finlay fled after getting busted and has never danced again. What he did to her was completely illegal. He should have been arrested and done prison time. He got lucky. He's a little rich boy.

    The problem with the entertainment industry is that it has sparkle and idolizes the people who work on this industry so people from the outside have no idea what this sparkle can hide.When someone is at a stage performance because thats his job (and with this job he gets his next meal to put it simply )no one knows what happens 1 minute before he gets on that stage .You can have a physical fight and someone trying to strangle you and hitting you right there behind the curtain and when its your part you have to appear on the stage (sometimes with the same person who was violent with you 1 minute before you appear on that stage )and dance of have a funny sketch and you are all smiles because thats your job ( to perform).You must throw all these jobs out of the pedestal .Actors ,dancers ,singers etc . When you treat these jobs like any other job only then things will change.

Alexa is a brave woman. Chase Finlay was destroyed. Not just due to this, but mostly. He quit NYCB before he could be fired. He had a serious injury which didn't heal well and was taking opioids to manage the pain. Which caused problems with his dancing. Actually his whole damn life.

      Ballet is so competitive and the ratio of boy to girl dancers is like 1 to 30 so it's especially competitive for girls, that's why her company treated the boys leniently and treated her like she's replaceable. Choosing to go to trial basically meant she'll never dance professionally because no one will ever hire her again. That's what's so sad/brave. She had a whole career she got into the conservatory at only 15, that means she's a really really talented dancer and that she probably dedicated her entire life to dance before this happened.

  • @Kristen-j4p
    @Kristen-j4p 18 дней назад

    This unfortunately has existed since time immemorial….it is not new information…at no level should it ever be tolerated but in a world that takes little girls and continuallly pushes them to sacrifice their lives for the art, it exists….take any elite sport or art and you will find this…..parental control is abdicated and given over eventually to pursue “the dream” ,parents at times will also over look aberrant behavior patterns for “their star” to continue to metamorphosize…. if systems are called on it, denial ensues and those at the top go underground….it’s all wrong but this is the reality and more the norm than not… the whole system needs to be dismantled and reconstructed and let’s be real, given the corridors of privilege and money that support the system ,do you really think this will happen???? It’s sad, buyer beware.
