There will never be another John Hughes. The man defined an entire generation with his films and as much as they defined the 80’s and kids in the 80’s, they will resonate with young people for years to come and be celebrated by those of us who were there forever.
They already tried Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. It was called Due Date with RDJ and Zack Galafinakas. I can barely remember it exists and I've seen it twice if that explains anything.
I read a comment somewhere: "If they tried to make The Breakfast Club now, it would be five kids sitting in a library staring at their cell phones for 90 minutes."
Hollywood would be stupid if they tried. That guy had a magical resonance with the culture of the time and a knack for telling a relatable _American_ * story that teetered on fantasy and reality. And he had a gift for comedy. No one has come close to replacing John Hughes. They could try to use his movie titles and basic story concepts (e.g. Breakfast Club, a story of teens in Saturday high school detention) but it isn't possible to replicate the results of what he did. He was a genius. * If I had to tell a foreigner how to get a feel for American culture, I would recommend certain John Hughes films, especially _Christmas Vacation_ .
Little did John Hughes know that this project [Weird Science] in which he hated and in which he wrote the script in just 2 days, was going to be a box office hit and a cult classic. Before anyone wants to argue with me about my comment, calling it a box office hit, just remember this: It cost $7.5 million to make this movie and grossed $38.9 million.

I can remember several details of that day. thank you for this. it's helped me remember a happy and special time in my life. that date was the first time we kissed.
John Hughes movies captured the essence of teens and young adults in the 80s. They gave a lot of kids something to relate to but they're not exactly Gone With the Wind or Citizen Cane. I'd be more surprised to hear that it took more than 2 days to write Weird Science.

Hughes said in an interview that he was pissed at not getting much involvement with BC's trailers and promotion as he was already shooting Weird Science. BC was a much more personal project to him, that Universal didn't believe in because they thought teens talking about their problems in a room would be boring. As such the first trailer was edited to look like Porky's.
I love it when the cast breaks character and they leave it in. 😄 My favorite was an episode of Seinfeld when he was being chewed out for having a missing library book. The library actor (I forget his real name) was so good, even Jerry cracked a smile... playing off of that, the book detective said, "Go ahead, laugh if you want to."😆

This is one of my favourite movies ever. Kelly Le Brock was BANGING back in the day. I grew up with her as an example of what women are supposed to look like. I could not have had a more wonderful role model.

One time i worked with Kelly and we bonded over the sweetness of an elderly woman who was a former Playboy Bunny and the prototype for Jessica Rabbit. Jessica Rabbit lady was sitting next to a famous actor who is really good looking. So im there and hunky actor kind of wanted me to notice him and i felt it was more satisfactory to give Elderly Jessica Rabbit all my attention because she really deserved that I Loved her. So Kelly and i agreed it was the correct choice to make. Another time Ilan Mitchell Smith and the sidekick of Robert Downey JR were there plus Kelly. I adore Ilan and knew hes a Professor of Medievil History at UCLA. I love medievil fashion to thats what we yacked about. I really Loved that job ❤️❤️👸👸💃💃🌼🌼🎁💞
This movie was fantastic. I got to see Kelly LeBrock at Dragon Con around 2010 in Atlanta in the walk of stars. She was an absolute stunner! Still very classy.

Same with Hall. His first few movies he's the nerd, then in one he's the stud, now you can't even recognize him. Which I guess is kinda common for young actors. They get hired for a certain look then they grow up and look totally different.
It would have been amusing to have some sort of follow-up after Anthony Michael Hall had his growth spurt and was taller than Bill Paxton and heavier built. I remember the audience was shocked in Edward Scissorhands when they saw that he was the jock bully in the credits.

I think this is probably one of the best comedies ever.

Love this movie! Definitely part of all the '80s movies such as breakfast club, pretty in pink, 16 candles, fast times at ridgemont High, etc love them all. Classics!
