Wonderful video, thank you for sharing. I still remember crossing the border from Barcelona to MNice in the early 80's with change of trains at Cerbere and/or Port Bou.
For a 7 hour train trip, the food service should be a bit more evolved than just snacks that you'd expect for Paris-Lyons in 2 hours. But then again, their goal is to pack as many people as they can in a train so food service car reduces how many passengers you can carry.
Don't like flying so been doing the train from London since 1988. Seen many a change down the year but prices have gone up but if your budget suits, then go for it. It's a great experience and I still never get bored with it.
Did the Reverse journey 5 weeks ago. Very pleasant. The day before, we travelled Cordoba-Barcelona with Renfe. Also very enjoyable. Beats flying hands down
You are right about the TGV food. I almost always buy something from the Paul outlet before boarding (Le Savoureux is my favourite) and stick to coffee from the bar. Exception is leaving St Jean de Luz Ciboure on the 07:20 to Paris (no Paul and nothing else open!) so I get a Formule Petit Dej between Dax and Bordeaux (allongée, jus d'orange, yaourt, madeleine; 9-50€ last year)
My view of eating on a train is that if there's no decent cooked to order table service with menus and waiters, you're usually better off buying food and beverages before boarding, from a local market or bakery and have an on-train "picnic". You get a much broader choice of better food at lower prices, and it's just more fun. Train "cafe" food is usually mediocre. The only thing really worth buying is coffee or tea as it's fresh and hot.
it looked like you had a comfortable sleep while riding along......the route the French train took should be very familiar to them as it is the invasion road used by Napoleon when they were at war with Spain...
Nice trip, thanks for sharing, I'm planing to use it ! About the food in TGV Inoui, they can't really provide food coupons included with the train ticket, because the bar is closed for shorter trips... but yes, I would love such an option. The duplex TGV also make hard to have a delivery service, but anyway, I like to walk to the bar and chat a bit with the waiter/waitress.

What the EU lacks is HS international connections as good as the internal ones. This goes for Italy too: I had to take a flight from Northern Italy to Budapest and our plane got delayed because it was still on the other side of the continent. Had we had a HSL from Milan to Budapest running through Venice and Ljubljana we could have gone to Budapest and back. I get it's all difficult politically (and also practically, due to the terrain and whatnot), but jesus it would have been so comfortable. And to think that Budapest is as far away from Northern Italy as Apulia or Calabria...
@@Hastdupech8509 It's not so much the EU that is dragging its feet, but the national operators. Took this journey last October, as part of a longer journey going Munich -> Paris -> Barcelona in one day (both in TGV Euroduplex). I enjoyed it, the views on the slow sections are really amazing. Water on boths sides, docks, historic towns, fortress, also the cathedral you can see from the bridge in Beziers. But it also feels somehow bizarre compared to the high speed part. Going at speeds around just 30 km/h through Salses definitely added to this feeling (probably some line issues at that time). Such a shame that the LGV Montpellier-Perpignan will not be finished until maybe around 2044. Why are French so slow? I wonder if the Paris - Madrid route through Bordeaux ends up built faster than this. This really should be a critical infrastructure funded by EU at a very high priority...
The route through Bordeux is not expected till 2040 as soonest. It's incredibly annoying that while int seems that by 2030 all the Spanish connection between Madrid and the French border in Hendaye will be finished as a HSR, from Hendaye till Bordeaux (or at least till Dax) will be a single track line with no possibility of developing speed there.

How do you get to the city center of Montpellier? Just checked the new station on google maps, it's in the middle of nowhere and no trains to Saint-Roch.
Some regional trains from Barcelona to France (Toulouse is confirmed, other destinations aren't yet) will come operated by FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya) They've secured european funding, but without the rolling stock... it's still years to do it. Also Ouigo in Spain has grown in destinations and going all doubles in Madrid - Barcelona, so they have now 14 train sets. The bet is, what will finish earlier, Sagrada Familia or Barcelona Sagrera. This route (for lenght) deserves Business Première

How do you get to the city center of Montpellier? Just checked the new station on google maps, it's in the middle of nowhere and no trains to Saint-Roch.
From Montpellier stade de France you have some busses (we named it navette in France) which travel from the city center to this station
Nice spot spottersfriend 😊
Nice video, just a question, what's ne name of the app you used to show the change of line? (At 13:01)
Some regional trains from Barcelona to France (Toulouse is confirmed, other destinations aren't yet) will come operated by FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya) They've secured european funding, but without the rolling stock... it's still years to do it.
Also Ouigo in Spain has grown in destinations and going all doubles in Madrid - Barcelona, so they have now 14 train sets.
The bet is, what will finish earlier, Sagrada Familia or Barcelona Sagrera.
This route (for lenght) deserves Business Première
If you're wondering when you'll be able to enjoy the new Alstom Horizon TGV M, Avelia being the American version. not before the second half of 2025. Unlike the TGV EURODUPLEXE The trains are entirely painted with red for the doors according to the new safety and mobility criteria.
The other novelty, the Talgo ICE L, like its Danish neighbour, which has the same equipment that will gradually replace the intercity, IC EC. not until second half of 2025, the C Berlin 77 Berlin Amsterdam will be the first to be served.
I did that journey on May 22
Ciao quale applicazione usi per vedere i treni? In tempo reale
How was cell service connectivity through the route?
Always good. A bit less after Girona due to the many tunnels
Actually, very strange that SNCF, being in the world pantheon of food (yes, France, imho ) cannot manage anything better in First class... I just keep thinking of OeBB and their great food service... But, maybe, one day, who knows... By the way: you are right about the high prices but every time I took this train, the first class was full to the last seat so, either people don´t mind or there are usually good deals to be had...
I just think that the amount of people wanting to take that train is so much larger than the capacity so that only these who don't care for the high price are riding.
I love travel by trains veryyyyy much i traveled to Prague from Basel where i'm living Basel to Vienna ... Basel to Barcelona.. Basel to Copenhagen they were Amazing
C'est quoi cette gare de Lyon vide ? C'est filmé un dimanche matin ?
Thank you. I don't have the money, but I really should refresh my Passport & take some train trips? As long as dogs are allowed. My Dalmatian comes with me everywhere
I get confused with some of the sequences. Has the train changed directions!
Nope, not at all :)
What is the longest "single seat" TGV route? Someone else claims that Nancy - Paris - Nice is the longest. Also: are any freight trains in France using catenary electricity for power?
Longest "single seat" TGV services:
- Perpignan to Bruxelles (Midi) TGV 9862 is 1238km over 8h21m averaging 148km/h

Leaving your luggage away from you and not on top of you for storage triggers anxiety.
I agree. There are also luggage racks in around the middle of some coaches (as seen around 4:34 on the right side) and I booked the seat right next to it for exactly this reason :)
Why? You can look at it from your seat if you’re anxious
Buy padlocks for your luggage
Bom dia lindo trem de 2 andares gostei 1:37 boa viagem simplys 15:12
Where did you book the ticket ?
good thing no one got your bag when you left it there on the rack
Please, I want to ask you: Were there no police at the border for passports?
No, because France and Spain are in the Schengen Zone (free travel without passport checks)
I love riding long distance trains as mental health therapy. How was your nap on the train? I really would like to know if you do not mind.
Very nice ride. Comfy seats. Good scenery. Amazing that First Class doesn't include food.
Thanks Thibault for your review💚👌👍
Nice that they have a bar car for beer 🍺 🍻...I wonder how much the reservation fee is when you have a first class Eurail Global pass? Probably a bit pricey I assume.
I d say 30€
I'm done with train, only flying now or car
Great problem with trains in Europe is the price. If the powers that be want us to use the trains then they should subsidies them just as the airlines are subsidised.
this service would be competitive as soon as the new line will be finished. BCN shoudl be at 4-4.5 hrs from Paris, not more. 7 hrs is tooooo much!
Why doesn't this train stop in Lyon 🤷 ?
Excellent travel ticket price. UK train operators would have charged at least cost 5 times the cost of your ticket. Nice views 👌.
I booked Acela tickets recently for a trip in August. $212 round trip between Providence and DC. Not bad, but at TGV speeds, it would be maybe a 3-4h trip instead of the 6 it's going to be
What £400 single? I don't think so. Yes probably more expensive in UK, but not five times.
I challenge you to make a trip between Madrid and Lisbon by train, yes it is possible.
I don't care about 4K, but I do care about smooth motion. Lots of motion, lots of vertical lines in train videos. You should shoot at 50p or 60p.
8:07 😍
6:53 Your trash bin is missing. This is unfortunately often the case.
Those salt marsh scenes are so special
You can see flamingoes from the train!
Very good accent je ne me moque pas je constate (entre nous je suis pas le mieux placé pour dire ça)

Riding backwards? I could not do that.
In first class you have to get up and walk to the cafe car? No-one to take your order and serve you at your seat?
nope :(
@@SimplyRailway Very disappointing. There should be a proper restaurant car but they seem to have largely disappeared. Better to take sandwiches on the train.
@@randall8379 agreed..
Però il tratto Marsiglia -
Perpignan - Barcellona è quello già esistente, non ad alta velocità.

Olvides = not a bit top familiar? Like ́tutoyer’ in French...
Double deckers are too good.
Am I the only one not interested in first class if you don't at least get free non-alcoholic drinks? Maybe because I am short and don't need a bigger seat but if I am paying extra they could at least give me a cup of coffee lol

There is a mosaic on the floor in Perpignan station marking the spot which Salvador Dali declared to be the centre of the world. The office buildings over the new TGV station are called El Centre del Mon in Catalan
153kmh average, so not that THAT impressive. Would be nice to have data on how many of the 7 hours are spent at 300kmh and above, how many at 200 or above, how many at 100 and above, and how many below 100kmh.
Also, the TGV is boring because it lacks the train sound and feel that we still have in Canada with thet clickety clack sounds and bumps along the road 🙂
On the issue of only 10 passenger trains per day in tunnel, what sort of restrictions are there because tracks are shared with freight trains?
I get motion sickness in high speed trains so not for me. Besides the tickets are expensive.
It is so nice to have that and rode the TGV several years ago. Here however, we can't have nice things due to corporate greed. However they are starting a high speed rail, the first true high speed rail between Rancho Cucamonga and here in Las Vegas by 2028. Not holding my breath and if Trump returns, highly doubtful that it will come to fruition.
Indonesia has high speed train with max speed 350 km/h.
Do you speak Catalan?
Signs in Peripignan are in both French and Catalan.
7 hours for 1000km doesn’t sound like a high speed train
there are a lot of stops and a lot of sections (as explained in the video!) that are not allowed for more than 200 km/h :P
