I set my camera to record, set it down and then get in position. I can then hold up the fish, pivot it around for different angles and have it back in the water in a few seconds. Then I can go back and just take screen shots until I find a shot I like.
Same here!
Gotta say let's go a dozen times 😂
Also, try not to look happier with the fish than in photos with your significant other.
Great article! One rule of thumb, hold you breath while the fish is out of the water. If you aren't getting oxygen, the fish isn't either.
I like that
Best way I've heard this put. Permission to steal?
One of my personal habits. I heard about it years ago and immediately liked it and started doing it. (It was either holding my breath or sticking my head in the water while fishes was out, which turned out to be kinda clumsy. Either way I was feeling the fish’s panic.) 😬
On top of that, usually the fish was just hanging out grabbing a snack, next thing it knows it is stabbed in the lip and being pulled into some weird moving stumps in the water. Then it's being taken out of its normal, breathable space to be held by some giant monster who will kill it for all it knows.
You've got to get that phrase out to promote proper catch & release.
I CANNOT STAND “Let’s Go”. Where did it come from and why do people feel like they need to do it?? Soooo annoying! Oh….that always gets me fired up.
Another great one! Always worth my time to watch your stuff. Thanks brother!!
Years ago I took a picture holding a Catfish pillow like that, it was nighttime drizzling and the flash made it shine and I was posing like it was heavy. It looked real. My buddy owned a bar and put it on the wall. I had hundreds of people asking..where? what? how? I was famous! 😂 The funniest part..you could see the tag on the pillow..and No one noticed they were so amazed at the size. I finally brought it to the bar and we hung it over the photo. I caught lots of sh** for that one! 😂 Thanks as always Ben! Stayin Huge! 👍👌🎣 *maybe do another video of all the stuff we Don’t need to carry. I’m a minimalist, flies, tippet, forceps. I can’t believe how much some people pack along. Loved your other video about that. ✌️
Been getting skunked hard the past couple sessions. At least I now know how to take pics of the fish I don’t catch 🙏
Instructions unclear, I gutted a 22 inch brown and threw it in a foam cooler full of empty miller lites.
Kyke taking bullets in the trenches…lol laughed a bunch on this one and good advice. This is such a weird skill to master.
After you landed the fish and screamed let’s go 12 times might be the most relatable thing I’ve heard in a while😂
I wanna see more funny stuff. Thats why i follow this channel in the first place. 😅 ✌️
Love the pillow, I have the same one. Bass and bass boats were designed for pictures. That being said most of my fly fishing is blue lining and a 12” brook trout is a monster. All my pictures are the fish lying over one hand. I generally only take pictures of fish with exceptional color, first one at a new location or anything unusual. I have a friend that takes a picture of all 32 4-11” trout he catches and posts them on Facebook. Don’t do that.
Hey Ben, nice ‘bow in the intro, but you shoulda held it CLOSER TO THE CAMERA!!! Makes it look SO MUCH BOGGER (and nobody knows what you are doing. ☺️ 🤣
I don't do fish pictures. Some people say its because I never catch any or that there too small. I say its because a picture is a poor substitute for a memory. Anyway, what was I talking about?
Suggestion to not try to hide your fingers where the fishes stomach is. This is how fish end up squeezed, with their heart resting on knuckles. Cradle them naturally with an open palm, and they will stay calm. Oh, and it looks better too.
The most important part of fishing photography is claiming your 18" dink is a 25lb state record breaker, forgetting you can't lie when there is photographic evidence.
Who’s a dink😂
Gotta disagree on the “one hander” pose. Particularly on bigger fish, it tends to lead to a lot of squeezing for most folks. Two hands on bigger fish makes a lot more sense than one.
Most of us have phones when we're fishing. And some of us RICH people who suck at fly fishing (especially nymphing) use a GoPro. Video the person catching and landing the fish. It gives you a multitude of possible pics of the fish.
What about the ‘air guitar’ … tail down, head up, body at 45 deg … like Eddy VanHalen
I stopped taking pics unless the fish is over 20”. I tie my own so my hooks are barbless. Once the fish is in the net and the hook comes off it’s a win/win if I don’t have to touch the fish. It’s more satisfying to me to fool the fish with the fly that I tied than the size etc. Bottom line is no one really cares.
I recently just started shooting video on selfie view then later just screenshot the photo off the video. Pretty quick and allows you so move the fish around a bit for a shot plus got a vid too 🤙🏽
I just fish phone all my trout.
Hold fish at arms length. Works great making that 2 lb trout look like a 12 pounder.
Holding large snook vertically by it's lower jaw damage tendons necessary to feed. It starves to death. During a study 50 out of 50 barramundi died after being held this way.
Ooh, Guiding, and Being Guided
Ive seen that you want to fish in Arkansas and if you fish anywhere you have to fish the little red river
I'm sick of overly serious people in the photos giving huge amount of respect to the fish. Its a fish, not a funeral.
Right back at you. I'm sick of dirt balls with no respect
I like to make little bunny ears behind the fish ✌️ so his buddies make fun of him when they see me post it on MySpace.
The millennial one doesn't come close to people who lip trout I hate that
They max clip hatchery stock here.
kyle is great at dropping fish in the boat.....saw it first hand this weekend.
Unbelievable!
Can’t believe you made a video of this🤣
Are you now a grade school teacher?
Get a job!
The guy who’s spent the past two days watching my old videos and leaving stupid comments is telling me to get a job. I have arrived.
If you hold the fish close to you it looks exactly the size it is.
Great advice Ben! 👏
Bitchin' tunes, bro!
I wanna see another worst state to fly fish in
fish the little red river Arkansas
The hot tub video is one of my fav of yours
Take your picture while your fish is in the net. Don't pick your fish up at all because for most people bad things happen. The memory of the catch is what‘s important not the photo that you probably lose later. The best thing you can do for your fish is to reach down with a quick-release tool and remove your fly. Don't net your fish unless you plan to take a photo.
I particularly enjoyed the sunglasses video (no white frames allowed) and the identification of bugs and the splashy rise means they're keying in on caddis. Both very educational and funny at the same time
New merch item.... I suck at Fly Fishing PHOTOS.
Agree with don't wear gloves while holding fish, destroys the natural slime on the fish, it's bad for their health. Seems like almost everyone from NZ likes to wear gloves while photographing/video of fish.
the fish is "drowning" every second it's *out* of the water. stop fuddling around and get the thing back in the drink!
Dope remake Huge! I think fish identification would be another great one to remake
Kyle.
My favorite is the action-shot of the fish in mid-air flopping out of my hand.
Never throw your dinner away. Gotta photograph...
Nice vid. Hate seeing gay conventional tackle fishermen using lip grips to puncture fish mouthes or putting fish on the ground in a hot summer day for slime rapes
Im a huge proponent of #keepitwet
The whole "Let's Go" thing is so overrated. 😂
At what point did buttholes for Ben end? I'm sooooo lost.
No beer?
LOL
I'm so glad I found this channel, damn
Like you’re pouring a cup of tea!
I never knew there were some many fishermen with big fingers
Well you know what they say about big fingers
Better them than your proctologist! 😂🙄
If you are alone, bring the fish to shore in shallow water and place your rod parallel to the fish for scale. Taking a picture of the fish still in the net, while convenient, distorts the size of the fish as it will be curved concave to the camera. Sometimes when you're alone, it's impossible to get a good photo of the monster you landed and let go because it was too tedious and complicated to get a proper shot. Your pals will just have to believe you.
Once the fish is tired, before you land it prop your phone up and shoot a video with the camera that lets you see the screen. Pose the fish a couple ways nice and quick and use a screenshot.
Oh the shit people do for the gram!
I only use a 35mm camera…
Fill the frame with the fish!
Good one!
Good one .
Give a wannabe guide with the gift of gab a microphone annnnnnnnnnnnnd go!
He’s been guiding for over 20 years. Calm down.
@@stephenlonon4605 ohhhhh k lol
@@tduvall13 I think you’re new to the channel. Ben is really experienced, and is great at poking fun at the fly-fishing industry. He is kind of a smart ass but he directs it towards people that get wrapped up in the “image” of fly-fishing, rather than just going out and enjoying it.
@@stephenlonon4605 Riiight! How did I miss that? Lol shut up, nerd.
And don't forget the 40 "let's go!!" The Millenial pose, never knew that was a pose. Here's the Gen X phrase. "Yeah, nice fish, hand me a beer".
Guides a week straight and the last 2 days were gay.
Not all fish are straight!
