Used to watch this on VHS all the time as a kid! Brings back great memories! Still trying to find the full video showing all the different jets used by the Blue Angels that I had.
Thank you for sharing this great video. It brings back many wonderful memories of the F-4 Phantom years with the Blue Angels. Saw them many times at NAS Pt. Mugu in Ventura, CA.
The BA"s came to Cubi NAS in the Philippines about 1972...they were flying the F4. The did not have to conform to strict CONUS guidelines and put on quite a show. They broke the sound barrier and cracked windows at the NAS control tower.
Nice raked lines connote speed even sitting still. Very masculine looking too appropriately enough. These flew out of McGuire AFB in New Jersey in the '80s through Desert Storm. As they'd land the superheated roiled air in the wake of their passing remained turbulent to the point where it sounded like linen being ripped apart. It wasn't uncommon to see three or four elements of several F-4s in the air all at once. They made a distinctive, loud sound passing over.
less maintenance, they had 120 people for maintaining the F4's and A4 were ugly but cheap and flight characteristics were far beyond better and faster, thats why sadly.
@@ShredSixx80s The A4 wasn't faster so to speak by any means but maintenance you are right. I don't think the A4 was ugly either personally, good looking jet but that is all a personal opinion.
The early 70s OPEC oil embargo was a factor in both U.S. flight demonstration teams abandoning the F-4. The Blues downsized to single engine A-4s and the Thunderbirds downsized to T-38 trainers.
ただ一度、1971年の10月末に来日したブルーエンジェルス。当時、使っていた機体はF-4で、飛行隊長はハーレーHホールでした。
Saw BA early 1970's Quonset Point R.I. I remember F4's smoking!
I was 10-11 loved it. Became ATC and pilot

McDonell Douglass F-4 Phantom II an absolute beast, two J-59 engines pumping out raw power and thrust.
I think you mean J79's
J-79
Peach Waller yes, and the B58 had 4 of those 79’s
@@philipp9459yes I did mean J79, brain fart at the time, thanks.
The background xylophone makes this.......................
F-4 Phantom the best from the west 👻
Such skill, such flying in a Phantom, 36 inches clearance wingtip to canopy.
Landing 6 Phantoms (4:40) on the same runway at the same time is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen them do.

The F in F4 stands for funky
What's the background music in this?
Why did the Navy switch to a-4's?
costs, they could fly 4 a-4s for the price of one phantom

In addition to what has correctly been stated, easier/quicker handling-maneuverability.

What a strange video. It sounds like paid voice actors dubbing in as the pilots. And the title; Diamond "ON" the sky? Shouldn't be Diamond IN the sky?
