The F4 was a great fighter, it was faster than the F18, and the A4, and made a lot more noise too. I did some dog fighting against the F4 in my little Skyhawk. I could turn far better than the Phantom and could stay inside his turn, but he could come and go from the fight at anytime he wanted to. The Phantom was second only to the F105 in speed to any other fighter in Vietnam. I miss seeing, and hearing this beautiful plane fly.
gotta love a good energy fight :-) i have sweet memories of the Skyhawk chase planes screaming in ten feet above the streetlights above me in the middle of the floating bridge in Seattle, in Blue Angel colors. A-4 was a mighty platform
The Hornet would fly circles around the F-4. The newer super Hornet with variable intakes can fly alot faster. The Blues had alot of crackups with the F-4. The super Hornet is s loud jet. The F-15 broke most records.
The f-4 blue angels jet is my favorite because. I remember when I was a kid 10 years old in 1977. Went to the air show in my town pensacola florida I had lots of fun remember the pilots who fly the f-4 and I love the f-4 in the us miltary branch who fly them from William m Huber
There is now a behind the scenes video about Threshold on my RUclips channel. It features commentary from David Gardner, the Associate Producer, and David Marlow, the son of Producer Paul Marlow.
first time i saw the mighty Blues was from the freeway shoulder near McChord AFB in maybe 68. rockin the F-4 beasts, then the state patrol chewed out my step-dad and we had to scoot
I"m very fond of the F4J. I was a crew member of the USS Independence, CV-62 from 9/74-6/78. Made 3 cruises two of which I was a blue shirt on the flight deck. They made a lot of noise but was a beautiful sight once airborne. I saw the Blue Angels at NAS Pensacola from 9/78 - 12/81. At that time they were flying A-4 Skyhawks.
After they switched from the F-4 , I never wanted to see them perform anymore ....the Phantom was the attraction for me. To bad they couldn't recondition a few and fly the Phantoms again.
At 1:34 it looks a CGI or animae- except there were real. Phantom from the front looks like a huge badass bird of prey- like I AM GONNA KILL EVERY BODY I SEE!!!
This was truly a treat, I was born in 1981 and I don't know when they made the switch to the a-4 but I do remember my firsht airshow, I was maybe 4 years old and I remeber them flying the a4 but I also remember seeing an f4 do a tactical demo. Boy that f4 was a beast.
These phantoms were replaced by Skyhawks the 'Scooter' to save the budget for fuel due to the Oil shock in 1979. So did the Thunderbirds with 'talons'.
You missed one helluva show. The F-4 era was the best of the 3 types ive seen. The sound and the shape of the aircraft is hard to beat. It might not have been a gracefull show but boy was it ripe with power. I never seen them use smoke after the F-4, but they might have used it on the A-4 briefly. I think it might have been used to camoflage the soot trails,. The J-79 powerplants ran very dirty at maxpower.
Nothing like the sound of those GE J-79's spooling up before being lit! I also remember the noise and power of the Blues and T'birds diamonds on afterburner take-off. It's something you just can't appreciate unless you're there in person to witness it. Thank you for your service to this great country, sir! 👍👍👍👍👍
Probably the coolest film perspective of the demonstration is minute 7:00 were you see in the reflection of the pilots visor of how close and how precise his inputs are into the formation flying. Not everyone can do that type of flying. Its like putting on a suite of armor.
Between about 8:00 min. and end of the clip is footage filmed at Abbotsford airport during the Abbotsford airshow... I would have been there in real life as just a tiny kid. During those F-4J Blue Angels visits. I recall my dad covering my ears as I still hadn't got use to those loud J-79s at the time. But I do remember the Blue Angels visits in their F-4J Phantoms, just as I remember the USAF Thunderbirds visiting Abbotsford B.C. in their F-4E Phantoms.😎👍
NVANG pilots said to me your already Red and White Hell’s Angels. We’re going to train you to become blue for the blue angels. What will we have in the end? But red white and blue.
I remember they came over to England in 1973 to do a display at the Rolls Royce airfield at Hucknall near Nottingham. From seeing them I was 12 at the time I have always had a fondness for the F4 phantom!
Finally an F4 Blue Angels video without annoying music, always good to hear those J-79's roar!!
ur a weird man

as a pilot, can you imagine the 35 pound pull induced in the Blue Angel stick springs?
Yes the F-105 Thunderbirds !

Man I miss the sound of twin J79's..... pure music!
I saw them at Pt Mugu about 1971/72. It seemed their diamond formation was solid. J79=pure power - you could feel it right down in your gut.
Was with VMFA 232 in Vietnam and Thailand with Phantom F4J
公開時に映画館で見て興奮しましたw。今でもサウンドトラックLP持ってます。
音楽も良いんだよなあ。。。

Those must have been a serious handful to fly!

Agreed, the Phantom was AWESOME.
I saw the Thunderbirds in 74 when they flew F 4s the last year

playing chicken with the trees 8:36
I had forgotten how great Threshold really is. Thank you.

I worked on the F4E and F4D while in the USAF in 77-80 they were my favorite fighter and those suckers were LOUD.
bless you Sir, for your service

This looks like El Centro. Is it?
sorry.
i don't know where🥲
There was no information about the airbase in the movie.
Pure coolness...Loved that Phantom!!
amazing video! thanks for uploading.
I saw them in these several times at Dobbins AFB, first time I saw them was a Ft. Rucker Ala, in 69 I think.
i salute the great Sakai, to come back from those injuries...
Phantastic phlying!
sweet Leslie Nielsen narrating...
the mighty Frank Herbert writing the story...

Coool!
A-4より大きくて爆音!
F/A-18には敵わないけど、いい時代だなあ!
Like it
Just wondering can I use some of your footage to make a music video in my channel?
やはり圧巻はフォーメーションランディングだよな❗空自のブルーじゃ安全第一だから絶対やらない

Simply fantastic!!!! Bye from Italy 🇮🇹
The dirty roll on takeoff was AWESOME!
He started it lower than it's done today.
Also, the Blues did formation landings back in the day in the F 4
Davis Monthan, 1969
Tucson,Arizona
We used to have an ANG fighter squadron (183rd) based here in Springfield, IL. Heard those J-79's many, many times. The sound of freedom!
The J-79 sounds great.
I love the sound too.
That rumble of those engines! Awesome!
Absolutely impressive
Sensacional, show parabéns pelo vídeo.
He actually died in a Blue Angel crash in Lakehurst, New Jersey.
What year was this?
3:19 thats ok?
