- It is not always necessary to buy material for bonsai you might be able to pick up raw material from a skip or a building project.
In this video I share with you what I do with a beech tree hedge that was being thrown away.

I never get tired of Peter flexing on how he gets free material or product and miraculously turns it into gold for his business

Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure indeed.
Jake Ryan Oliganga And he got paid to haul them off as well that’s a score for sure.
Bingo ! laughing all the away to the bank. Peter said he got paid for taking them away.
It’s One man’s....
It sounds like you’re talking about the same person.
I love it, he got paid to take away something someone could of just stuck in the back of their van at the end of the day, and gone a planted somewhere haha.
love how he s angry about em bein dumped :D
The joy on Peter's face when he scratched the bark and said 'It's green!' 😊
Thank you for saving these trees. Thanks for being such an amazing human. Much love and respect from Bulgaria.
He will profit from them
🙋🙋🙋🔔🔔👉👉
Beautiful trees! The roots would show a lot of character as a bonsai rather than being hidden when used as a hedge.
Not only bonsai wisdom but also life wisdom, love it!
Hey Peter! I hope all is great. Please do a quick update on these beeches. I think we all would love to see the specimens growing and thank you for saving them. You rock!
That's a wonderful shirt for any raining day as it is always sunny above the clouds.
What a lovely sentiment
I’ve always wanted to get into bonsai. You have inspired me so much that I have purchased a set of bonsai tools, grow lights for the winter when I have to bring my trees indoors, supplies for wiring branches and keeping my bonsai healthy, and I’m so excited I finally started this exciting hobby. All bc of your love and inspiration for these beautiful trees. Thank you for giving me the confidence to do this. I always look forward to your videos.
How you are doing now?
Your excitement is infectious. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Well done.
Glad to see appreciation of the mighty beech tree. I live in an area surrounded by beech and always thought they would make excellent bonsai.
i've just created my first bonsai from a beech "bush" that i have grown in a pot just lightly trimmed for years, i love it, steep learning curve coming up, lol
All those trees thankful little trees are crying, "My Heron! ... I mean, " MY HERO!" 😊
Love your enthusiasm, it's infectious. Great project trees.
Love your drive, Peter and enjoyed your early 70's rubbish dump story, I must get into that myself. Hope all the lovely trees survive into great bonsai. Keep up the great work, and thanks again for another fabulous video.
Amazing idea!
These humble trees went from being neglected and disregarded, to some of the most well pampered trees on Earth. Thank you.
Ive done the same thing with clients. Ive saved quite a few plants and trees this way. Tell your friends "dont kill them, call me first", you will be surprised at how many people call. I now have a beautiful giant pyracantha bonsai from this! Everything may not survive, but it is worth a try!
What an amazing find. So nice that these trees past their use as hedges and now they get a new life and purpose. Beautiful!
What a finding you got there, Master Chan! And you look so happy it's a beauty to watch!!
What incredible luck Peter! Can’t wait to see an update of their progress in the future
You’re so stinking happy I grinned through the whole video. Great job and good deal! Hi from Arkansas!
I love this man so much. So knowledgeable, and wholesome.
Really excited to see the future of these trees! Cheers my friend
What is so wonderful about this video, apart from the imparted knowledge and wisdom, is the sheer excitement that Peter feels about getting these trees for free. After all of your years of creating and working with bonsai it is fantastic to see that your enthusiasm and joy for rescuing plants and creating beautiful trees from them has not waned. I imagine that you get as excited now about such a find as you did way back when you first started. I know how I would feel, as a real newbie, at even finding one of these trees let alone 60. It's not even the fact that they are free, although that is a real bonus, but the fact it is raw material for one to use one's creative talents on. My congratulations to you, Peter, and please keep us updated on their progress.
I know it has already been said, but thank you so much for sharing your life's knowledge with all of us!
Thank you for saving those trees Peter,.can't wait for the next video.
It is truly WONDERFUL that you are giving these beautiful trees another chance to be admired
Peter, love your Hawaiian shirts, your philosophy on life, and your wealth of information so freely given. You definitely have found your purpose in life. The trees are so happy to have been saved by you to continue living.
God bless you and keep you safe.
Excellent example of getting great material for bonsai.
Peter you never cease to amaze me, you get so much enjoyment from finding things for free or very cheap .I think it is wonderful and we all should do more to recycle.
Amazing find. It pays to pay attention. Thanks for sharing!!
What a great find
Wow peter what a find to get so many beech that have such great trunks and your excitement in getting them shows there potential. good for you :)
An update when they put on some growth would be great
Makes me so happy seeing this rescue. Love your work. XXB
This guy is my guru . ..i even have these videos on to fall asleep...im learning so much. He is up there with Costa from gardening australia and monty don from the UK
You are so inspiring and amazing Peter! What a wonderful video I loved every minute of it. You are THE "Tree Whisperer"
Lol. I watch the mulching dump here too! Great find you got there.
Love to see the joy on his face at getting these trees. I recently dug up some thick and interesting hawthorn stumps from a hedgerow that was decimated as part of preparation for road works. They are all alive with little green shoots and all of them are going to make very interesting bonsai, I have no doubt. It is a good feeling to not only saved then from being wasted but also to consider the prospect of making something far more interesting than a simple hedge from them!
I planted bushes and trees years ago for future bonsai but the wildlife love them so much I can't bare to chop and dig. Plus the one juniper I dug and potted up last year is dying.
You have given me some inspiration though.
Sir, I am very grateful to you for inspiring me... When I look at trees, I see their potential for become a bonsai... You make it look easy. All your videos are very informative and inspirational. Thank you...

Love your videos! and love that shirt!
this video was very informational and fun ,thanks
What a fantastic idea. I have 4 or 5 red-leaved beeches left over from a project I did six or seven years ago. They are 6-7 feet by now, if I can dig them up I'll use them for bonsai. Thank you so much!
Darn, that's a find and a half, would love to stumble upon a bunch of trees like that.
The introduction to this. The weather. It felt like a beautiful gentle nostalgic children's program. And forgive me, I don't mean that in any reductive way at all. Like Bagpuss for trees. (I went to a Bagpuss exhibition in Cartwright Hall in Bradford with the original puppets for the animation. And I surprised myself and wept).
Awesome!!! I’m new to the channel and have seen the video of you working these trees years later. Cool video to see the origin story
Always love your videos
This is great, saving those trees from the landfill, commendations to you Peter, nice work my friend.
God bless you sir
Thanks for sharing
I love bonsai art
Luck you say... I think those trees are lucky to have found you!!!
Please do a follow up. I hope most of the 36 survive. Beech aren't the best for root disturbance but for free you have nothing to lose. GL
ruclips.net/video/Bpnx8aA3Vb0/видео.html Update!
Excellent find Peter! Ray here in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I would give my left arm for trees like those!
What a wonderful story, thank you!
I love that shirt!
You are a legend, an inspiration and a true bonsai master. I'm into rescuing\adopting trees and reclaiming wood. I find such a satisfaction in it. I came to your nursery before, I love it and Tibo is a star. Would love to be able to spend more time there even as an apprentice. (I'm 38 and with a full time job). Anyhow I'll be coming around Herons in a few days and if I see u around I'll say hi. Thanks for your passion and for sharing your knowledge, pls keep it up. 👍💪😀
Let me know before you come just to check that I wont be out. I'd love to meet you.
What i wouldn't give to find just one of those trees! Wonderful find Peter
Fantastic material for bonsai, great for experimenting
I really enjoy these types of videos on this one specifically I would have liked a little bit more detail on how you recognized the health of the trees and The care after they've been repotted
Lucky you!
Does anyone else go around industrial and building site finding plants like these,I have so much fun doing this and the gems you find are unbelievable.
Surprise to find out you live in the UK as well. Hope one day I can visit your gorgeous garden :)
