Parliament Square. Sounds like it should be accessible to all in a modern democracy, right? In 2016, David Cawthorne challenged that the planned redevelopment of Hobart's Parliament Square didn't meet that basic test. The developer says they meet their requirements under the law. The disability community says they do not. This battle made it all the way to the High Court of Australia.

Thank you so much for this video. And the whole series! As a wheelie, it's super frustrating having so many places that are either not accessible or technically have access but it's really demoralising. One of my favorite shops in the city rearranged their store during covid, and while it used to be accessible, I now have to bumshuffle up 3-4 steps to get in (and out). Fortunately I have that physical capacity, but emotionally it's hard.
I love the opera house, and find it quite accessible physically (for performances), but hate having to book tix over the phone between 9-5. The other day a group of friends and I decided to go see a show (too many to join me in companion seats). They were able to hop on and buy tickets on the spot. I had to wait until the next day and hope there were wheelie tix available for the same show. I know the box office was open at 7 on a Friday night, but I couldn't book tickets, even over the phone 🤷
