  • My tach cable was locking up so I took it apart and determined the teeth on the gear that runs the hour meter were worn and causing it to lock up.

    Hello there.
I have been having problems with my 1980 Ford 3600 tractor dash hour meter, which has stopped working. Your strip down of gauges has been truly revealing and really helpful, 👍 I was told that the internal gears were made of plastic and had just broke up. Your video has put that myth to bed, they were made of proper metal materials, that have sadly just worn out. Battery Drill with square head bit is good idea for testing out before purchasing second hand unit.
    Thank you.👍

I was going to recommend that you cut the screw end of the cable off and screw it on the back of the tach and then run it on the drill again. I have had problems with the cable pushing the back of the cable entry brass into the gears and causing binding. Doesn’t appear that is the problem with the twisted gears you found though. Thanks for the video!

I bought a new cluster. Quality seems decent, not oem but good enough I guess and was pretty inexpensive.

@@mjmcomputers do you still have the old one ? I just opened my hourmeter but all the gears are in a good condition. Maybe a bearing is destroyed but i dont want to change the optic from the instrument. Maybe its possible to make from 2 parts 1 working instrument cluster.

@@mjmcomputers I found someone who can make a spare part for this part which is broken but it costs money but its possible to fix it and it will be original. Iam thinking about if i will do this. With more parts it will be cheaper of course.
