I got this one not long ago also and I am really enjoying it so far... it plays so well!! Hopefully more people will get it thanks to this video cause it's very worth it!
Damn it! You sold me on this in the first three minutes. Will need to shop at Game Crafter again ... Thank you again for this insightful review. Great game it seems.
I would love to illustrate for a dungeon crawler. I think my style fits. Tired of doing rethemes that only we play at home. Love this channel. Can't play any of these since I'm from Argentina and importing is prohibitive but I enjoy the games through your channel.
I've been writing a dungeon crawler board game slash gamebook in the past two years. I'm at the playtesting and editing phase, and some vintage illustrators would really help shape this adventure. Let me know if you're interested, and if so, where I can contact you.
Dan, I have been looking at this game. I picked up Iron Helm after your review. I like it. Picked up the expansion(card packs) also. I will be picking this one up. Keep up the great work.
Hi Daniel, this is a wonderful in-depth video of Rogue Dungeon with great explanations. I love how the colors come through as well. I'm just finding out about your channel and it's what I've been looking for since I love dungeon dive games.
To answer a couple of questions I saw in the video. There is a small expansion on TGC with a few extra rooms you mentioned and other stuff. But I agree, another expansion with more options would be great. As far as the difficulty, I guess I'm the only one who thinks the game is still too easy. I still play it all the time, because it's fun. I would say I win a solo game about ~40-50% of the time.
@@TheDungeonDive Definitely a learning curve to win. A good friend of mine once won with 11 prestige! but it took him like 20 plays to win his first game. So, it's very doable. Also, with multi-player or multi-hero it's much easier.
Thanks for turning me onto this game!! Im definitely mostly a solo player and ive been wanting a card based dungeon crawler (was also looking at dark souls card game) and i think im gonna get this instead!
I was finally able to play this game and it is a blast! I totally get all your points now and I could not agree more if we could get a 2nd Edition of sorts with a new art direction this could take the genre (specially for solitaire play)
The art that looks more like it’s 3D rendered is, I think, the earlier pieces. They’re all 3D rendered, but Jon started painting over them to provide more detail and color. He went back over some of the older pieces as well, but maybe not all of them. I don’t think there was any attempt to capture a computer art era. I personally prefer the later pieces. I also think the game mat is way too busy. I think it should be more muted to let the card art stand out more. The slots are covered most of the time anyway.
@@TheDungeonDive if you could afford 1 and all expansions if it had any, what game would you recommend more based on your experience with it; quest for the lost pixel, rogue dungeon or iron helm? Do you plan on doing any play through of these games?
Always enjoy your videos and impressions on games. I know you said that you’d like to help get the word out there about this game. Maybe you could do a kickstarter preview video, going over the new Kickstarter for this game. I would Love to get a rundown of your thoughts on what’s changing and being added. This is the perfect time to spread the word and get more people interested in this game, and the more backers, the more content can be added.
This is a no-brainer for me to purchase. The difference in art styles has a sort of charm to it. I wouldn’t mind if the art design went all hand drawn.
I am late to the party - as always:) Great overview of the smaller format games. I already ordered some based on your recommendation. A question now - which one I should go for - this or Iron Helm? They are available from the same website and are quite expensive. Help!
@@TheDungeonDive Would you recommend getting the expansion even if just 1 or 2 players? Or is the content enough to warrant getting it unless you have specifically 3 players?
I wouldn't recommend this game for anything but solo. The expansion adds a bit - two new characters, a few new items and a couple rooms. I can't say if its worth it, I was sent the expansion for free to check out after I bought the main game and did this video.
Can be played up to 3 player coop! helps to get the MP expansion for additional play mat and dice/meeple.. also more cards which is also nice. I had 2 player game with my 14 year old son and he loved it. Really challenging as a rogue-like should be. It's probably a bit more challenging as coop as you have to split the loot/xp, but there are some perks to coop as well...
Hey nice video! I may have to check that out! I do have a question, since you play several of these types of games would you be interested in helping me playtest one I am working on? It's not quite ready yet but I'm almost to the point I will need help testing
Thanks! I don't really have the time to playtest games. Sorry! However, if you join the Dungeon Dive FB group, there might be some people there who would like to.
So If had to pick this or lost pixel, what would you choose? I am not a fan of pixel art, I play enough PC games. I do like coop though and I see there is a 3 player version expansion for RD.... decisions, decisions.
I feel like id probably enjoy this game but here in the UK its a nightmare to get hold of and the fact its sooooo damn ugly is whats stopping me paying big bucks for it sadly. Definitely needs a revised edition because its hideous to look at 😂
@@TheDungeonDive i know but i just cant get past how bad it looks. Call me fickle, but the aesthetics and production value play a fairly important part in my enjoyment of board games and this game is just too bad to look at 🙈
@@TheDungeonDive well after taking a look at the games Pledgebox page and looking at the active updates ive decided to pay up front for a preorder of the 2nd edition. The artwork and changes to the aesthetics; although still not really my cup of tea, look far more unified and more polished. The fact the creator seems so genuine from the updates and actively keeping everyone up to date convinced me to buy. Along with your video of course. Now im looking forward to delivery early next year. Any chance you can do a “how to play” guide when it gets released? 😂
Rewatching review because of another video...you gave so many negatives at the beginning after saying how much you loved it, that it made me more than a little wary.
@@TheDungeonDive just sounded like a lot of red flags...but The Geek Gamer agrees with you...except she likes the art. So...like you she preferred this to Iron Helmet in the end.
If red flags are going up, maybe it's not the game for you. I present information for you to do with what you will. I'm not part of a marketing plan for the games, nor am I here to just hype up games (like a lot of people do on youtube). I don't put games in my top 50 of all time without reason. Games are expensive, and take a lot of time and effort to get played. You should know what you're getting into.
@@TheDungeonDive all good, I was just commenting that you raised some issues but like all games, I do have to decide myself. Though your taste is more in line with mine than the Gloomhaven crowd. Haha.
Love the PS1 style arts! I agree with the coherent part. If it is paying homage to 32 bits art, it should stick with it. Otherwise it may look like some early mobile games where the arts are all over the place (basic 3D but with lots of over the top fantasy arts)
I too think that if us dungeon divers could organize ourselves to support designers for great games like this, the world would be a better place.
I got this one not long ago also and I am really enjoying it so far... it plays so well!! Hopefully more people will get it thanks to this video cause it's very worth it!

I always just use ziplock baggies.
