the reason people say its 1000 is that normally most people arent rich enough or can afford multiple vr headsets, and normally buy one and stick with it until it breaks or they can get a new one (in which the old one becomes outdated), and they buy the 1000 dollar bundle because they dont have controllers or basestations or anything of that sort, and if a new headset bundle comes out, why not buy the new one if it comes with better basestations and controllers?
@Jacobfov yes, and I know that. I personally use index knuckles with my HTC vive pro 2. I was just saying why people may say it was 1000 for a valve index.

But that still doesn't change the fact that the headset, base stations, and controllers are all separate entities that aren't tied to a single brand
