they actually showed these version on their youtube channel back in the day, showing all stages the knuckle controllers went through, during development and prototyping stages.
I really miss that 'touch-typing' control. I was still using vive wands when they removed it and I remember being so upset about it. Now that I have index controllers, I have to wonder why they couldn't just keep it, use the thumbsticks to move around and pull the trigger to input, would be so much easier to use.
TOUCHPADS ARE THE FUTURE OF TRUE VR, AS WELL AS THE TRACKING "RING" valve actually used that design in a prototype for the knuckles controllers and it looked great!
I'm pretty sure that the pimax swords were meant also to have finger tracking and have version with 2 face buttons and joystick just like the knuckles but pimax stopped R&D for it tho

Remeber the days when if you had a console and didn't like the controllers and or couldnt afford them, so you had companies like Mad Catz that would make transparent, coloured ones, the works, for basically pennies and in some cases offer more buttons/functionality (turbo, etc)? Yeah... Those were the days 🥹 Now, the cost of R&D is so dang high and a lot of these companies hopping on the DRM bandwagon because 'ooh nawoh! Mah intellectual properteez!', which is killing the aftermarket side of things (example being theres no PnP solution for XRE users to just pair new controllers to their headsets of their choosing without extensive mods and software work arounds. Similar for other standalone headsets too). This future were headed for isn't exactly sad, it's downright infuriating and frustrating, in my opinion.
A bit of an extension on this is that you're forced to buy the controllers with headset too. I'd rather just deal with the janky software than spend extra money on controllers I'm not gonna end up using anyways
I enjoyed this video a ton! I absolutely love VR History so this was super cool to watch. Thanks for sharing this and I can't wait to see more from you! ^w^
