This is why RUclips is (supposed to be) so great. You're just a regular guy, but somewhere in there, there was an artist waiting to emerge. You have excellent directorial abilities and a keen eye. That piano at the end came out of nowhere, and was the perfect ending to this video.
I like the new camera angles, the one from underneath shows of the new roof coating beautifully ! I’m sure that will be a huge help under different conditions👍🏼
I like that camera angle, looking up with the camera sat on top of the log. That was a good choice. I also enjoyed the piano sonata music near the end, another great choice.
It is so refreshing to see your sawmill operation after stopping in at a local (and surprisingly successful) sawmill today that did not know what quartersawn or 5/4 meant, and it looked like they just cut all their logs however they fell on the bed of the mill as live edge slabs.
Its good to have you back Nathan. That is some pretty work on those beams. I have to say that the cherry you sawed lately was the prettiest stuff I've ever seen. Keep it up.
Nice, I love watching the mill do it's thing! I like "Out of the Darkness"It just seems to be you and the hidden beauty on every log you open up with all their untold stories.
Nathan it was very creative the angles of the camera. The 6 x 6 will make great posts. I like the quietness of the new mill. Have a very blessed Father's Day with your son and family.
That is so cool. Seems like you have to think spatially for each individual timber to visualize the best way to economically produce the product you need. It's a fascinating and somewhat mysterious process to me but it's becoming clearer watching Nathan do his thing.
nice work there Nathan. gotta love the smell of fresh cut timber though I know the pine sap drives ya a lil crazy. best wishes to you n yours from me n tommy the crazy cat.
Cool video plain simple to the point knives always love your background music not loud not stupid usually really great music love the watch your videos dude
100% chance of sawdust flurries at "Out of the Woods". Nice camera angles. All we've had in NW PA is 100% rain! Need to get me a sawmill shop like yours, then rain or shine I'll be milling.
My man Nathan Elliott .. just over the North Carolina border into the mountains of Tennessee , has a real live reverence for Wood . He takes carefully harvested trees (NOT from clear-cutting..) and sawmills them into lumber . He is GOOD at what he does . Nathan just traded uP to a wider sawmill so he can expand his sizes . Here , he takes a 10 foot log of White Oak , a beautiful solid hardwood which thrives in the Carolina/Tennessee climes , and makes the exact cuts to retrieve all usable lumber from the round log , with the Ultimate Intention to extract a 6 x 6 inch Post of pure Heart white Oak .. yesh indeed . Y'all go 'head and wartch a master craftsman at work ~~~~~ ~>
I never tire of watching those logs turning into boards and beams. Or the music either! Ya got good taste Nathan and Thanks Kindly! When are we going to hear a few songs you play? DaveyJO in Pa.
Looks like you are almost outside the shop the rain/snow is going to be a problem that will need some thought. At least you get plenty of fresh air way back there. Great creativity on the camera shots.
So what do you call the pieces that you cut off? I think it would be really cool to make benches for my beach property out of those? And if you know someone who I could call in Washington to get some would be great! I know that's a long shot
Boxed heart in this one? Do you try to avoid the pith? I realize this log was not nearly as large as some, perhaps making it impossible to get out a 6x6 without including the pith. Wonderful videos I love watching. Thanks!
Nathan, I've been meaning to ask you what you do with those barked flitches? Years ago I volunteered with an organization in middle Tennessee that got them delivered from sawmills to a location where they were cut to length, bundled, and donated to the elderly and poor who heated with wood. It's been a long time, but I think it might have been operated by or with the Sheriff's office because the men cutting them at the wood yard were all trusty inmates from the workhouse. I think they might have also cut up downed trees and powerline cleared trees for firewood, too. If you have more than you need for you own use, it might be worth a phone call to see if your county has a similar program.
Mmm, I can smell that oak right across the Pond. If I lived in a house like Downton Abbey I'd ship loads of those panels over here... but I don't. 😄 Is there a reason why you don't wear a mask, at least some of the time? Sawdust + breathing is probably not a good idea in the long-term and as you can't give up on breathing, seems to me the sawdust is the easiest problem to solve.
How are you finding standing at the controls and not walking with the saw? Also might want to get an anti-fatigue mat to stand on. They're money if you have to stand at a machine for long periods.
Nice work, Nathan. Now, if that outside wall was a flip up or a roll up so you could put logs directly on the mill with your tractor, naw, you gotta have a little exercise; don’t want to get fat, 😃🤣😅😂. Great video. 👍👍👍👍👍
I like the automation in handling rotation of the logs. Regarding the de-barker. I get the impression its a "sacrificial" blade to take a nail hit before the main blade. Is that correct? And why no de-barker on the other side? The exiting side of main blade is less prone to rock or nail damage?

Cause I say it is and so does the logger I bought it from. Huge difference between white oak and hickory. If you thing one looks like the other you need more time in the woods
@@OutoftheWoods0623 How can you tell the difference between shag bark hickory and that particular log then? All the white oak ive ever seen dont have shaggy bark, they have deep ridges
shag bark hickory looks nothing like White Oak, if you are ever in TN come by and I can show you the difference, I sale wood for a living and would look foolish if I offered Hickory as White Oak, what you have seen might be Chestnut Oak not true White oak, Chestnut oak has deep ridges and same appearance as White but it not nearly as good,
Looks like you're finally starting to have fun with your new sawmill. I like the view from the wood's perspective. How often do you have to sharpen the debarker blade? Or am I missing something?
I'd also love to see a vacuum system installed even though you are in a very open workplace or at the very least install a large slow moving fan to keep dust particles moving away from you as you work. Your long term health is always a good investment.
@@OutoftheWoods0623 I thought maybe some time you might want to inclose your building....Just saying it might make it better for you in the winter time to be warmer to work in for you...
